Introducingโฆ Franklin (SalacresFranklin) a gorgeous blue female who will be turning 6 in August. Weighing in at about 61lb, Franklin had a long, successful race career with 120 races. She retired with no injuries. She loves kids and has been around many other dogs. She will need to be cat tested. Teddy (Teddys Mate) is a 5.5 year old large black boy! Teddyโs race weight was right around 83lb! Teddy is calm on leash and loves being around family members of all ages. We will still need to cat test him upon arrival. Storytime! ๐ Over the past 4 months, I participated in the MBAA (Mountain Bike Association of Arizona) race series. I love to ride my bike and enjoy coaching our kids' school mountain bike team, but I personally hadn't done much racing. So I decided to give it a shot for one season, if only to understand what riders experience so I can be a better coach. Here's the thing: I'm not a good competitor, ESPECIALLY after I get to know my competition and subsequently befriend them. And my newest friend Nadia seems to feel the same way. Nadia and I rode together in the 5th race, and she went over the bars. It was a nasty crash, and I stopped, helped her tape up her arm, and then we carried on. At the finish line she slowed way down and so did I and it was like we were fighting over who had to win. She was stubborn and my slow speed skills are lacking. ๐ I "won" that one. Today was the last race, and we rode together again. Towards the end she looked over her shoulder and I said, "Get going! Win this race! I'm right behind you!" We thought we were 1 and 2, but an outlier who shows up sometimes (and blows away our field by 6 minutes) was there today. So we finished 2 and 3. In season points, Nadia and I are tied, but she finished higher today so she's the series champ and I'm second. And to be honest I love that because she's getting better and I'm staying the same. Why am I sharing this long story? Because about 58 times throughout this season I wanted to quit. But I didn't. I stuck it out and I made an awesome new friend, have a feel for what the kids go through, earned 6 medals (1 gold, 4 silver, 1 bronze), and got a cool coaster. I am proud of myself. Often, we write ourselves off too quickly and give up when things get tough. Sometimes we should throw in the towel, but the valuable skill of discernment helps us know when to keep going and when to stop. There is no doubt in my mind that my yoga practice has flexed my discernment muscle, and I also know I would have been so disappointed in myself if I had given up before I saw this through. #yoga #yogainreallife #viveka #discernment #retiredracer
