The second Covid shot wasn’t as bad as I thought, I’m tired all the time from work so I’m not sure if this is a side effect or not. . My dreams last night took me traveling back to France 🇫🇷 and the day I visited @chateauversailles . I realized after the first hour of wandering through the gardens I needed more than just one day to explore the entire estate. . Gioachino Rossini (Père Lachaise 12/13) Rossini was an Italian composer, who moved in 1823 to the center of European culture, Paris. His comic operas, like "Barber of Seville", were an immediate hit. In 1829, his opera "William Tell" debuted. He was at the peak of his career, he was 38 and had written 38 operas. Then he suddenly stopped. for the next four decades he barely composed anything. He moved back to Italy and went through a stretch of bad health. Finally he returned to paris where he could write a little music again. He died and was buried in Paris. Chopin (Père Lachaise 10/13) This Polish composer arrived to Paris in the 1830s when he was only 21. Soon the genious was famous as a great pianist, composer and teacher. He ran in aristocratic circles with fellow artists, like pianist Franz Liszt, opera composer Rossini, painter Delacroix and novelist Victor Hugo. His life changed dramatically when he met the love of his life, the writer George Sand. She had recently left his husband and started to dress like a man and changed her name to a masculine one. This was a very stormy relationship. Chopin developed tuberculosis, and Sand nursed him for years, but finally she left him. Jim Morrison (Père Lachaise 9/13) Jim Morrison had told his friends that he wanted to be buried among the great poets and artists in Père Lachaise, and so they did. Maybe the most visited tomb in the cemetery. He arrived to Paris in 1971 trying to leave celebrity behind and became a writer, what he always wanted to be. He kept drinking and taking drugs, gained weight, and his health kept deteriorating. He died on July 3, in the bathtub of his apartment. The official cause was a heart attack, but more probable it was from overdose of heroin. Molière (Père Lachaise 8/13) During the 17th century, Molière was the greatest French playwright. He was the son of the man in charge of Louis XIV furniture, and when he was 21, he joined a troupe of actors touring the French countryside. Molière was by then a very funny comedian, and when the troupe went back to Paris, they performed for Louis XIV, who became a big fan immediately. Just like that, Molière became very famous. Soon he was writing, directing and starring his own plays, which usually poked fun at the aristocrats of Louis XIV's court. His death is a fascinating story. He was in his 50s and poor in health when he went on stage to perform as the star of his latest comedy, called "The Imaginary Invalid". His role was a hypochondriac, so he faked a few coughs, and the audience loved it. But, as the play went on, Molière got sicker and sicker, and the faked coughs became real coughs. The crowd couldn't notice the difference, and he carried on to the final scene. He delivered his final line and then collapsed onstage. He and the magazine gained a reputation for biting satire about politics and social issues. The magazine published several controversial cartoons representing the Islamic prophet Muhammed. Edith Piaf (Pere Lachaise 6/13) The most popular singer in France in the 1940s and 50s. "La vie en rose" and "Non, je ne regrette rien" were her most widely known songs. She was raised in poverty and as a teenager sang for spare change in the streets of Paris. This tiny singer always dressed in black. Due to her small frame and warbling voice she was called "La Môme Piaf" ("The Little Sparrow"). Soon she was singing in the most important scenarios, even during Nazi occupation. Piaf's life had a lot of drama, she had many romantic affairs, not all of them ending up well and struggled with alcohol, painkillers and poor health. André Derain had a major role in the development of two of the most significant artistic movements of the early-20th century. He, Henri Matisse, and Maurice de Vlaminck were responsible for generating works with a totally new style which would become Fauvism and his association with Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque was integral to early Cubism. Nevertheless, his contribution as the generator of the ideas behind these movements is constantly debated, and some consider his work derivative. This is due in part to the fact that, continually in search of artistic meaning and attempting to create a timeless art removed from the specificity of the modern age, he experimented with different stylistic idioms.
