On #EarthDay, we’re proud to say that over the past year, we’ve diverted 5,021 pounds of compost which is the equivalent of offsetting 4,980 driving miles or 225 gallons of gas! #OTD in #History 1775, #PaulRevere warned the countryside of approaching British troops on his “midnight ride.” The tale has been mythicized, but the true story is just as inspiring; for it prepared #Patriots to take on the British before the #RevWar ignited. After Britain imposed punitive measures on #Massachusetts for the #BostonTeaParty, its colonial militia began stockpiling weapons in Concord. Revere, a leading patriot, also formed “a Committee for…watching the Movements of the British Soldiers.” One night, its patrols observed British boat movement and “that the Grenadiers and light Infantry were all taken off duty.” From this, Revere wrote, “we expected something serious was [to] be transacted.” Intelligence suggested the British would go to Lexington to arrest Patriot leaders #SamuelAdams and #JohnHancock, then go to Concord. Revere and fellow messenger William Dawes were instructed to ride and warn them. But before leaving, Revere had a friend place 2 lanterns in the Old North Church tower to alert Patriots that the British were coming, not “by land,” but across the river “by sea.” Revere was then rowed to Charlestown, passing a British warship. He borrowed a horse, and on his route, alerted homes that “The Regulars are coming out.” He was nearly captured, but finally made it to Lexington and met with Adams, Hancock, and Dawes. They agreed the main target was Concord. In fact, the British troops’ sole order was to “seize and destroy…all #Military stores” there. Revere and Dawes continued on, meeting Samuel Prescott on their way. However, British patrols intercepted them; and Revere was caught and interrogated at gunpoint. But the others escaped. Only Prescott made it to Concord, but because the Patriots triggered an “Alarm and muster” system, our militia was able to intercept the British. Revere was released when volleys were heard in Lexington. He walked back by foot, arriving just in time to witness the end of the 1st battle of the #RevolutionaryWar.

3/3 Von Hopkinton nach Boston Der Start war nicht besonders spektakulär. Muss auch nicht, wenn die Stimmung auf der 95% der Strecke waaaaaahnsinnig ist. Schon bei den ersten Kilometer dachte ich, dass die Zuschauer noch zwei weiteren Starterwellen nicht mehr packen. Ich glaube sie verbrennen heute mehr Kalorien. Ich habe beschlossen nicht auf meine Uhr zu schauen, einfach zu laufen und Spass zu haben. Bei 8k gemerkt dass mir die Luft fehlt. Pace: 4:20 min/km. Sofort runter! Mehr Zuschauer abklatschen, Selfies mit den Verkleideten machen, jedes freies Bier mitnehmen. An Unterversorgung leiden wir nicht: 25 offiziellen Gatorade und Wasserstände. 3 großzügige Maurten Stände. Rest bekommen wir von Zuschauern: Wasser, Kaubonbons in Stangenform, Bier, Orangen und Wassereis. Bei 20k wurde ich von der Kussmeile völlig überrascht. Ich laufe rechts und klatsche die Zuschauer ab. Plötzlich packt mich ein kräftiges Mädel an sich heran, macht ein Selfie und schlabbert meine Wange ab. Dabei bin ich voll verschwitzt und unrasiert. Egal, es ist eine Challenge. Auf unseren Nummer stehen keine Namen, wie es bei anderen Wettbewerben übrig ist. Viele haben mit Stift ihren Namen gekrizelt und werden die ganze Zeit gefeiert. Ich trage stolz den Namen: "Run, you Absolute Run Crew!„ Kurz vom Heartbreak Hill (ca. 31k) habe ich die Krämpfe gekriegt. Dehnpause, 100meter gehen, loslaufen. Boston kam unerwartet. Es sind viele Örtchen entlang der 135 Straße, die ineinander eingewachsen sind. Finish ist wirklich ein vollkommener Flash! 4:08:18 ist mein langsamster Solomarathon ohne Höhenmeter (führe eine Auswertung wo unter 500hm ein Marathon als "normaler Marathon" gilt). Das ist aber kein Grund enttäuscht zu sein. Das war die längste, lauteste und heißeste Marathonparty. Es ist 108-te Marathon+Ultra und mit Sicherheit in meiner top 5 Favoritenliste! Sam Adam’s Utopia 2023 A 28% ABV beer that sells for between $400-$500 USD. Got your attention? Read on… An extreme barrel aged beer that pushes the limits of how beer is made and enjoyed. Released every other year. Utopia challenges the perception of what beer can be. This boundary bending, barrel-aged beer blurs the line between beer and fine spirit. Each release the brewery hand-select single-use bourbon casks from Buffalo Trace Distillery. The beer then ages even longer in a variety of spirit barrels including Bourbon, Wine, Port, and more, each gifting their unique flavors and history to Utopias. The 2023 release uses an exciting finish cask, Pineau des Charentes. Hints of honey and vanilla envelop the palate. Along with traditional Bourbon, Ruby Port, and Carcavelos casks which bring notes of peach, wine grapes, a rich woodiness, and vanilla. The ‘beer’ was also finished with Scotch and Peated Whiskey Casks. These casks impart an extremely subtle peaty smokiness, which rounds out the complexity of the overall blend. 2/3 Von Boston nach Hopkinton Der Marathontag fängt sehr früh an und verspricht lang zu werden. Der Start ist in Hopkinton und wir werden mit gelben Schulbussen dorthin transportiert. Streng nach der ausgeklügelten Logistik wird die zweite "Weiße Welle" um 7:30 verladen, damit die Läufer im vorgesehenen Slot um 7:30 starten können. Die Helfer sind gut organisiert, reagieren sehr schnell und schaffen noch dabei freundlich zu bleiben. Einfach bewundernswerte Organisation! Obwohl die Sitze in Bussen für Kinder konzipiert sind, unbequem ist es nicht. Im Athletes' Village werden wir wie Helden gefeiert. Alles da: Getränke, Dixies, Zelt, Motivationsprüche von einem Moderator. Der Startfeld in Paris und Berlin ist größer. Trotzdem wirkt Boston gigantisch. Plötzlich wird alles ruhig. Amerikanische Hymne und unser Dorf wird von einem Militärflugzeug Schwadron überflogen. Gleich nachdem die erste Welle der Roten Nummer zum Start aufgebrochen hat, sind wir dran. Wie Lemminge bewegen wir uns im Gänsemarsch die Straße entlang. Vor den anliegenden Häuser stehen Bewohner klatschen und rufen: "You are awesome!" und "You are looking good!" Bin so aufgeregt, dass ich erst wenige Sekunden vom Start realisiert habe, daß mein Garmin noch nicht an ist. 1/3 Von New York nach Boston Wenn ich schon so weit zum meinem ersten nicht europäischen Marathon reise, nehme ich New York mit. 6 Nächte in New York mit vielen Sehenswürdigkeiten, spontanen Fastfood und über 25.00 Schritte pro Tag haben zugesetzt. Die 4 stündige Zugreise nach Boston war meine Erholung. In Boston angekommen, gleich die Startnummer holen. Laaaaaange wege, unglaubliche Menschenmengen, Plünderung am Adidas Verkaufsstand: alle wollen aktuelle Boston Laufjacke für 120$. Ich finde es übertrieben und hole mir lieber eine günstigere Sportjacke mit dem gestrickten und nicht geklebten Logo. Als ich meine Nummer aushändigt bekomme, jubeln plötzlich alle Helfer. So werden die Boston Ersties begrüßt. Man fühlt sich ganz besonders 🤩 Noch ein "Geschäftstermin" reingeschoben: mit Thorsten Sorge Termine für Bremen und Flensburg als Pacer ausgemacht. This boundary bending, barrel-aged beer blurs the line between beer and fine spirit. At 28%, it’s the badass of our brewery. Its reputation puts it on every beer drinker’s bucket-list. Introducing an exciting finishing cask for this release, Pineau des Charentes adds hints of honey and vanilla that envelop the palate. Along with our traditional Bourbon, Ruby Port, and Carcavelos casks which bring notes of peach, wine grapes, a rich woodiness, and vanilla, we also finished with Scotch and Peated Whiskey Casks.
