Horse by Kiev Experimental Arts Ceramic Factory. U.S.S.R. A fabulous horse on show today at The Ceramic Menagerie, and it was produced sometime between 1960 & 1975 by the Kiev Experimental Arts Ceramic Factory of Ukraine (KEKHZ). The ceramics factory was founded back in 1924 and quickly became one of the leading Porcelain manufacturers in the Soviet Union with many famous sculptors working there over the years, but it sadly closed in 2006. There was renewed interest in the factory's pieces in 2017 following a plagiarism scandal over a new sculpture by artist Jeff Koons, 'seated ballerina', when it was found to be a copy of a porcelain statuette called 'Ballerina Lenochka' by Oksana Zhnikrup who worked at the factory from 1955 to 1987. Koons had a license plus an agreement to use the piece, but the controversy resulted in increasing the popularity and prices of the original factory pieces; this horse might be worth thousands 😄.
