11/16/18~ A day I’ll never forget! That was the last day I ever put color on my hair! It’s been FIVE YEARS TODAY!! 5 whole years!! How is that possible? A lot has happened in that five years. I didn’t even have a teenager in the house on that day and now I have two and one is about to graduate. A pandemic forever changed our world during those 5 years. Five years ago I would go sit in a chair every two to three weeks for a couple of hours and get color put in my hair. Our kids have changed, our world has changed, and my hair has definitely changed! Change is inevitable. Sometimes it happens when we least expect it, sometimes we make it happen ourselves. It can be wonderful or not so wonderful and the outcome can be what we make of it! The world keeps spinning. Time is a thief. Enjoy “YOUR” change in your life. Whatever that may be. I know without a doubt the decision I made 5 years ago to change the color of my hair to its natural state was one of the most drastic decisions I have ever made. It not only changed my appearance, the health of my hair, others opinion of my hair, how old I look, etc. but it also changed ME! I changed and went against the norm. Thought I’d take a pic in the full sunlight after doing #hotyoga. I walked in my class today and one of my instructors who I haven’t seen in a while was there. She normally is a brunette but today she was blonde! I walked over to chat and could see she had the most beautiful crown of silvers shining through! I told her I loved her hair and she let me know she was transitioning to her natural color. We chatted a bit then after class I told her about the silver sister community on Instagram! She was happy I showed her and I could tell SO confident in her decision! Unlike myself at the time where I stalked the silver headed beauties in the squares to no end. 🤪 Just wanted to put it out in the universe there will be one more beautiful lady sporting her full head of natural hair soon! No two sunsets are ever the same! 🌅 The same is true for silver hair! Each one of us will have a completely different pattern of gray and you won’t know what it is unless you grow it out and see! I’ve heard over and over again, “mine won’t look like yours”. Nope it sure won’t. Gray hair is as unique as a sunset or a fingerprint. It’s specifically made just for you! No one else in the world will have your exact head of gray hair. How cool is that? I started graying at 27. Many others at a young age too, so in reality it must not be a sign of old age. Hi friends! It's been a while, so I thought I'd take a minute to re-introduce myself! I'm Krista. And I'm a photographer. You can see how I cleverly came up with this business name, Krista Photography (I'm a genius, basically). I did the math, and it turns out that since I've been working as a photographer since 2002, this year is my 20th photo-birthday! Woah!! That's 20 years of photographing people. 20 years of documenting weddings. 20 years of working with non-profits. 20 years of capturing moments for families. 20 years of getting to know people during some of the most wonderful intimate moments of their lives. 20 years of really trying to SEE people and capture what makes them unique. 20 years of wedding dance floors, best man speeches, and sweet personal vows. 20 years of wedding chicken, but also wedding cake! 20 years of newborn babies, and toddlers, and awkward tweens, and mitzvahs, and seniors, not to mention parents & grandparents. 20 years of musicians and artists and small business owners. 20 years of baptisms and fundraisers and missions trips and documentaries. 20 years of photographing life and relationships and work and play. 20 years of getting to work with so many awesome people - including so many of you!! It's been 20 years of doing something I love. And I'm so thankful! Over the next few months, I'm hoping to share some of my favorite images and moments from the last 20 years, along with all the new work I'm making this year. 11 months... Wow this month, I feel like my silvers have multiplied or I've just grown into them. I feel like I have enough to make a statement and own the look. I'm so loving the thick stripe on my left. I also got my first unsolicited comment from....my mom! 😂 She was telling me I should dye my hair so I can look younger. 🤷🏻♀️ It was at a family reunion last month. Pretty much all of my friends thought I was crazy. 😳 Today, I get nothing but compliments and “I wish I coulds.” They could they just aren’t ready yet and that’s ok. For me, I continue to embrace it. It was one of the best teachers I’ve ever had. You see, when I look in the mirror now, my hair is a constant reminder that I grew into this person. I took a journey and I arrived better than I was when I started. 💕 It didn’t happen overnight. And all the struggle days (and struggle ponies) that happened in between, distant memories. They don’t matter anymore. They don’t frustrate me anymore. I don’t even vibrationally feel them. 💃🏽 This is what a journey is. This is life. Whoever you are right now, tomorrow you will most definitely be a different version of yourself. Embrace the journey. Dance all over it.
