At the end of last month, @sw_railway held a one-day activity at Southampton station where our staff where tasked with approaching customers who regularly travel with SWR but still use paper tickets, in order to try and encourage them to start using a South Western Smartcard 🚂 South Western Railway has a business objective to increase the number of smartcard users. The station staff at Southampton are particularly engaged with this product and are experts when it comes to signing people up through the ticket office, however there is missed opportunity with customers who are still purchasing their tickets through the machines at the stations. Smartcards are reusable cards that hold your ticket details electronically. Neighbourhood Police (NPT) Officers across the BCP area utilise public transport as part of their uniformed foot patrols and to travel between patches across the BCP Local Policing Area (LPA). Seeing a uniformed Officer on your train, does not automatically mean there is an issue on your train. This should be seen as routine - high visibility foot patrols.
