A world-class gem anyone can easily visit by public transport -- The Grand Canyon! 🏞️🥾🤩 Back in the days, I took the Amtrak Southwest Chief from LA to Flagstaff for a reasonably comfy overnight ride, then connected to a shuttle bus from the train station to the canyon after breakfast, hiked down and around the canyon for an entire day, shuttled back to train station in the evening, and rode the returning train overnight back to LA. Having lived almost my entire adult life in mega cities like London and Beijing, where rush hour traffic moves slower than walking, I never learned how to drive. People say that not being able to drive would greatly limit travel experiences. Perhaps that's true sometimes. Although as I'm cleaning up my photo archives, reliving my years of wonderful journeys, I'm reminded of the manifold merits of travelling by public transport and even bicycles! Besides being economical, local-cultural, and mostly reliable, public transport in most countries can reach everywhere a tourist would like to visit, plus passing through unexpected splendours on the way where otherwise one might never encounter, and to top it all, the minimal carbon footprint and impact on the fragile environment!
