The perks of walking aimlessly through cities always gives me the opportunity to discover more than I expect. With no directions of where to go, walking through the towering courtyards, getting lost between alleys, to my shock I walked straight into this contemporary experimentation. This is an installation by Carsten Holler and neurobiologist Stefano Mancuso who studies the emotional effects of people on plants. People who go down the slide take part in the experiment, as they are given a live plant to hold as they slide down. At the end of the slide, the user and plant go into a pop-up laboratory, where the plant’s “photosynthesis parameters and volatile molecules” are monitored. Which are apparently produced when the plant senses the emotions of the visitor experiencing the rush of the slide ride. Back in 2018 Carsten Höller teamed with neurobiologist Stefano Mancuso for ‘The Florence Experiment’, intertwining art and science (and fun) so to create a bridge between human beings and plants. The main challenge of this public activated work of art was to point out a liaison between human feelings and plants feelings. Do plants feel us? Do they feel what we feel? What I have always liked about Carsten Höller and his works is his capacity to create deep links between art, science and technology, taking care of the viewers’ engagement and experience. Here. Two summers ago I was in Florence, and I was sliding down holding a living cute plant, as part of an experiment designed to explore the impact of emotions on plants' growth. Filming the Multi-Media Short Story Installation "Ich sehe nicht die Stunde" (I do not see the Hour) back in 2015 on the Island of Pantelleria which you can see here: https://vimeo.com/232945190. The scorched earth was a challenge to dance with in pointe shoes, and I wasn't sure that the plants appreciated me disturbing their process of regeneration after the fire. After all, I was trespassing. And yet as we drove by, I saw the field and said "Stop the car!" and I got my shoes and danced. Nature provided the lighting, the soundtrack, other artists to collaborate with and an audience (I was the audience participation while nature ran the show) . When I see concerts for plants @liceu_opera_barcelona or remember the Florence Experiment from Palazzo Strozzi @palazzostrozzi back in 2018 or marvel at the Bosco Verticale in #milan during my lunch hour, or read about the nation of plants, and how policy makers are starting to recognise the importance of reintegrating plants into urban contexts, I get this feeling that I can't quite explain. It has something to do with a sense that plants are not objects. They are sentient subjects. They have agency. And in ways we have yet to understand, they are sovereign. So before we start to co-opt them into our best made plans, perhaps we need to ask ourselves the basis upon which we seek to manage this collaboration. Here's an idea. Ровно два года назад я приняла участие во Флорентийском эксперименте и вот теперь наконец-то нашла результаты и готова ими с вами поделиться! Рассказываю 🙂 Идея исследователей была такая: наверно, положительные человеческие эмоции хорошо влияют на рост растений. Как проверить? Решили так: взяли 2200 ростков фасоли 🌱 и поделили на три группы: одна спокойно росла себе в прекрасных условиях, а две другие катались с горок – сами по себе и с людьми. Да-да, именно так 😂 В одном палаццо во Флоренции построили две 20-метровые горки, и случайные посетители могли скатиться с них не просто так, а с фасолью в горшочке ☺️. В конце спуска спрашивали пол, возраст, куришь ли ты и, самое главное, – что ты чувствовал во время спуска, восторг или страх. Фасоль, которая каталась сама по себе, спускалась в специальных тележках. Эксперимент продлился 4 месяца, и я вошла в число восторженных участников 🙂 И я, конечно, надеялась, что моя фасоль теперь будет самая счастливая и бодрая. Оказалось, что вообще нет 😂 Исследователи замеряли скорость фотосинтеза и устьичную проводимость (не спрашивайте) у всех трёх групп растений и выяснили, что у фасоли, которая каталась с людьми, показатели хуже всего! 😬 Вы думаете, лучше росли только растения, которые никто не трогал? Нет, фасоль, которая тоже каталась, но сама по себе, также чувствовала себя гораздо лучше! А ощущения человека во время спуска и другие его показатели вообще не оказали никакого влияния 🤷♀️ Вот такие новости! Наводит на размышления, не слишком ли много человек о себе думает) Вон, даже фасоль не хочет с нами водиться 😂

Ho sistemato questi vasetti poche settimane fa, era il 22 febbraio, in un sabato mattina soleggiato, come queste giornate così strane del corona virus. In pochi giorni, con questo caldo, hanno avuto una crescita impressionante mentre noi sembriamo implodere nella mente, a causa di questa limitazione dei movimenti, dei viaggi, nella impossibilità di abbracciare le persone più importanti. Quando sono stata a Firenze per la mostra di Carsten Höller, nel 2018, alla base della ricerca sviluppata in collaborazione con Stefano Mancuso, neurobiologo vegetale e figura di avanguardia per la scienza mondiale, c'era una sperimentazione importante su come il comportamento di noi esseri umani influenzasse l'andamento delle piante. Venivano catturati gli ormoni, le nostre particelle, da un sistema di aerazione che influenzava l'andamento e la crescita delle piante poste all'esterno di Palazzo Strozzi, e questo accadeva dopo aver attraversato due box cinematografici che mandavano in onda a ripetizione scene di film, comici e drammatico/distopici. Piedi ben piantati, le nostre radici, con la consapevolezza che, in base al sentimento che noi emanavano potevamo orientare l'andamento della natura, ingovernabile, ma molto sensibile al nostro modo di fare. La cura, l'attenzione, l'ironia, che valore possono assumere in questo momento? 🌿🌱☘🍃Di piante, pollici verdi e psiche🍃☘🌱🌿 Con le mie piante mi esercito a lasciar vivere e morire pensieri, idee, preferenze, desideri e perfino amori. Pianto, estirpo, taglio, seppellisco, travaso, sostengo i fusti esili. Coltivare le mie piante è per me un enorme esercizio di meditazione. Sono poi convinta che le piante abbiano un modo di contattarci, e di sicuro possiamo comunicare con loro. Diversi studi rivelano che alcune persone sono in grado di influenzare positivamente la crescita e lo sviluppo di una pianta tramite la propria energia. Quello che poi viene chiamato "pollice verde". L'anno scorso mi ha molto colpito l'idea sviluppata da un'artista e un neurobiologo in The Florence Experiment. ✨Это выставка во Флоренции, в Палаццо Строцци под названием The Florence Experiment(19 апр-26 авг 2018г). ✨Авторы проекта исследуют то, как эмоции людей влияют на растения, и как результат отразится на фасаде флорентийского палаццо. ✨Первая часть исследовательской выставки представляет собой два закручивающихся туннеля, установленных в самом дворце и напоминающих цепочку ДНК. ✨Посетители могут спуститься с высоты 20 м из верхней лоджии, и потом подняться в лабораторию и проверить, как оно отреагировало на эмоции, переживаемые посетителем во время “путешествия” по туннелю. ✨Авторы проекта считают, что этот эксперимент наглядно покажет существование эмпатии между растительными организмами и людьми. ✨Вторая часть выставки будет состоять из двух кинотеатров.
