I don’t know about anyone else, but when I wake up for the morning, the first thing that I do is grab my phone. I can’t help it - I’ve created the WORST habit for waking up. It’s like I want the instant dopamine kick of hilarious Reels and sending them to people and laughing before I start my day. I feel like if you’re doing it for five or ten minutes? Totally cool. But when it’s been an hour and you’re stuck in the time suck of the doomscroll - it makes creating your own content seem more daunting, it makes getting ready for the day more daunting, and it decreases your motivation. How do I know? I do it ALL THE TIME. So this is your reminder that if you’ve been doomscrolling for more than 10 minutes, put your phone down and start your day. Or put your phone down and say hi to the person next to you. Go ride your bike or go for a walk or listen to a record. Literally do anything. Then come back and say hi again, because we do like that you’re on social media sometimes - just like everything, though, things are better in moderation. There’s a reason it’s our jobs, after all :) We think social media can be a fun place to be, so long as you aren’t forgetting that there’s a real world out there that loves you, too.

Accountability update, I haven’t done a run in two weeks. The old me would have said “that’s it I suck, I’m giving up” but not this new me. My goal is to go for a run Thursday morning. My aim for Thursday is to get to the 5km mark. Intervals still but I’ll stretch them out to 2min jog, 30sec walk. I was doing 1min on 1min off. Whenever I get on stage, even though I have been singing for most of my life now - sometimes I have a split panic knee jerk reaction to the fact that I am actually in deed now in stage and about to sing. So I have learn't over the years to replace that fear with excitement. I say in my head "OMG G how exciting, you are about to sing your little socks off to all of these people and we can dance, boogie and have such a good time together." Then it's not so scary. I am intrigued, interested, curious to see what happens next. Will the venue be packed out, will anybody request that I sing Rick Astley (AGAIN) even though I'm a soul singer. Will I ever get the timing of Gloria Gaynors "I will survive" and who will join me dancing all out to "Proud Mary?" ooooo let's go.
