I can think of so many times in my life when I’ve experienced this. Impatiently waiting for God to do what He said He would do. I’m not just talking about my hopes and dreams or aspirations. Even the ones I think God planted in my soul, I’m talking about the things He told me to do. Like, writing my books or that I would have a loyal and Godly husband. I remember vividly after I’d finished my first book, I was working hard to get it published, after all that was why a person write, right? But every door was closed to me. I cried in frustration and sought God and do you know what He told me…? “Wait! Just wait.” He didn’t want me to do anything at all at that time. As time passed, I would check in with Him to see if i was done waiting - like a child in the back seat whining, “Are we there yet?” And then, more than a year later, everything fell into place and One Spirit One Church was published. But it kicked off the beginning of a difficult season in my life. It’s interesting to look back and see how God unfolded things for me. It didn’t look anything at all like I’d imagined. I think about King David running for his life after being anointed by Samuel - we know that was really hard for him from the Psalms he wrote. Psalms full of despair and sadness but also hope. I remember hearing God say my name. It will surprise you but I think I was 5 years old the first time. I knew Him. He knew me. It’s not difficult for me to believe this because it’s always been real for me. I cannot imagine living without hearing His voice. The key is being in tune with Him, His love for us and His desire to be part of our lives - our daily lives not just invited to the big events, but to the table in the kitchen and as a part of the family. There have been times when I neglected this precious relationship and was not in tune with Him at all, but He never lost His in-tuneness with me. He was always there, He always caught me and helped me pick up the pieces. He has healed me, delivered me, corrected me and comforted me. He is my counselor and my provider, He truly provides everything I need. He knows your name. He knows you, and He always has. When Jesus appeared to His disciples in the upper room, Thomas wasn’t there. He didn’t believe it when they told him Jesus was alive and said that he would need to touch his wounded hands before he would believe. We all give Thomas a really hard time about this, but it was a normal response to something that defied all of the laws of nature, and it didn’t deter Jesus. ”A week later his disciples were in the house again, and Thomas was with them. On Mar. 25, the Church once again celebrates the great feast of the Annunciation, the day that God announced, through the Archangel Gabriel and the cooperation of a young Jewish virgin girl, His plan of our salvation–our freedom from Satan and sin. Like Gabriel, we must ANNOUNCE this Good News–this Evangelion. Although our Lord died for our individual salvation personally, HIS SALVATION IS FOR ALL PEOPLE. We are all called to proclaim it–to be missionaries. A vibrant church is one that shares this Good News of God’s salvation. Some days are more difficult than others. Getting up and getting going today, I needed this verse. I needed to be reminded of God’s endless and unfailing love for me and for my children and grandchildren even in the face of attack. I am grateful. We need the Lord to show us the way to go. Are you suffering? Do you know someone who is suffering? I’m certain that you answered “Yes!” to one of these questions because we live in a broken world filled with broken people. God knows too. He sees you! Don’t let your suffering, despair, anger, or frustration cause you to listen to the lies of the devil. He is trying to tempt you to sin. He is trying to trap you when you’re most vulnerable. The devil is trying to get you to trip up or give up. DON’T GIVE UP! The Lord is with you! You are not alone. You are a child of God and He loves you. He will take care of you, He promises that He won’t abandoned you or leave. Suffering makes it harder to find Him, but He is still there. Always. Put your faith in God and ask Him to help you - to give you eyes to see and ears to hear what the Spirit of God is doing in and around you. Gods word is true, His promises are still in effect and He is still on the throne even when you can’t see how it’s possible. If you’re struggling to believe that right now, then ask Him to help your unbelief. Wait. Not our favorite thing to do, is it? I’ve just visited Disney World and there was a lot of waiting in line involved. But not like there used to be… the innovation and technological advances they’ve used to reduce wait times and make it easier for people to avoid long lines are quite amazing. Our human nature wants everything NOW! Like a toddler. God knew this about us and tells us over and over to wait on Him, to trust Him, that His time it is different than our timing - and by the way, God’s timing is perfect. We hate waiting, but it is in the waiting that God prepares us for our futures and destinies. It’s in the waiting that we build our faith and learn to trust God. We need to listen to the Holy Spirit leading us, and when it’s time to wait - then wait while you seek God and build faith. Hope is powerful and necessary. When people lose hope they give up, so protecting it is important. The Lord gives us promise after promise to help us keep our hope, but Jesus is the author and the finisher of it all. There are people in the Church, even teachers, who might say that all of our difficulties and trials are attacks from the enemy because those who are following Jesus and living obedient lives are under the blessing. That’s not what the Bible says though. Jesus said, ”I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” John 16:33 ”Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.“ James 1:2-3 Does God give us difficult assignments sometimes? Of course He does! Do they seem like impossible tests…? Probably, at least sometimes. The thing is, we aren’t promised that life will be perfect and beautiful here on earth. We are promised joy unspeakable afterwards and that the Lord will provide all of the grace and supply all of the wisdom for whatever we face in the mean time WHEN we turn to Him. We don’t get this from relying on our own strength and knowledge, only from relying on Him. That is walking by faith. When we’re in the thick of the fight, it’s hard to see the end - even if you feel like you’re winning. It is all-encompassing and overwhelming sometimes.
