📖 ‘In 2022, my dad was diagnosed with cancer. He was only 64. We thought he had a year or two if he had the treatment. It was devastating, but we thought that he could take the treatment. But two days after the first radiotherapy, I went home. He wasn’t eating, and in the night my sister woke me and said that he was hyperventilating. ‘I work in a hospital, so I knew that something was wrong. I called the ambulance at 5 am. The A&E at the local hospital is very small and didn’t open until 8 am. The ambulance team told us that he was dying. I was so shocked. I didn’t know what to do. My sister was thinking to send him to the big hospital, but something in my heart told me that this is what a dying person looks like. If he had died on the road, I couldn’t have borne it. So, he stayed at home. ‘It was very peaceful. I had been reading my Bible and the verse that came to mind was Joshua 1.9, “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.” ‘I felt that I was responsible for my dad’s death in some sense, but there was nothing I could control. I left it up to God. I know that, in that time I wasn’t alone, even though I was. I know that the God of the whole universe had a plan. ‘It’s been a long journey of bereavement. I felt that no one understood what I had been through. I felt really low and lost my motivation for everything, even church. The guilt in me was there for a long, long time, but I know that dad has gone to a better place. Ironman Texas…what an insane rollercoaster of a day. 🎢 🏊♀️: Nauseous and dizzy from the nasty water 🤢🥴 and aggressively swam over by AG men in wetsuits 🚴♀️: Still Nauseous until mile 15, 30-40 mph winds & spent the whole bike sacrificing sticking to my target power to ride a clean race and avoid the huge AG men in draft packs 🏃♀️: Ran on feel, kept it comfortable and cruised to close with a 3:02 (6:58 pace) marathon and snag an overall PR of 9:40:50 and 18th out of 33 pros in an insanely competitive international field 💪 Full race report to come. Ventured deep into the heart of Texas at Longhorn Cavern State Park outside of Burnet! 🌟 Our journey underground led us through mesmerizing caverns, where we marveled at the intricate formations and rich history. Steve was our tour guide and we have to say he was awesome, one of the best guides we have ever had! After emerging into the sunlight, we embarked on a scenic hike over to the water tower built by the Civilian Conservation Corps, soaking in the views of the surrounding landscape. It’s Friday. And for many of you, Friday is the gateway to long days of extra lonliness. Weekends are the enemy of the brokenhearted. (PS… evenings and mornings and Tuesdays aren’t treats either. But that’s a different post.) So as you step into your next few days of heavy lifting - let your heart remember this truth…. He is not finished what He started in you. Right now as you wrestle with the unwanted. He’s working. This morning as you peer up at another weekend. He’s with you. Eyeballing it too. He knows. Remember what He’s just been through. He knows all about lonliness. His people scattered too. He stood and looked at the wreckage too. Broken hearted. But He kept His eyes fixed on His Father. His mission. The Truth. So this morning as you harness all your courage, I want you to know I’m over here praying for you. Right now, I’m praying. And if it helps, here’s a weekend prayer from my journal - when I was deep in the valley. Some weekends I recited it countless times. It helped change my focus. It helped keep my heart fixed on Truth. It helped take my heart off what was hurting me and locate it fully onto Who was holding me. He is not finished with you yet. And at the risk of sounding too bold, stop focusing on what’s hurting you. Switch your gaze to the One Who is chasing after you. The One Who has made a way for you. The One Who will never - could never ever - leave you or betray you. Look for him everywhere today. And tomorrow. And the next day. He hasn’t taken His eyes off you. And He is absolutely working it out. It’s a promise. ❤️ “This is my command - be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged.
