Yesterday saw the release of @paskettiwestern s latest oeuvre. Let me tell you that the wait was so worth it, more so than I’d ever expected. All star Composite Superman is a tale of a simple man who is at a low point in his life and on a whim, is given the opportunity to get back what he lost. The story is based on Composite Superman. A deep cut from silver age DC comics lore as he first appeared in World’s finest comics 142 by Edmond Hamilton and Curt swan, all the way back in 1964. It is followed by an even deeper cut as Dave pays tribute to the great Steve Ditko in the second feature titled ODD MAN OUT. A fear instilled tale of a little known character that appeared in an old house ad for DC Comics.( this is the first I’ve heard of him) And finally the curtain drop is a beautiful tribute to the fantastic @therealgiffen which after reading a story full of wonderment and one about mystery and fear, left me equally heartbroken and inspired. In true fashion I had to read it at least 3 times before writing this.There is so much to be had in this single floppy. On the surface it’s all powers and capes but I truly believe it is rooted in what it is to be human. And artistically it’s a stunner 🤩 with some hints of some all time greats such as Perez,Byrne and Miller. Dave. I’m sorry I pestered you for so long about this( and what’s in store in the future😉) If I was a fan before, I am now …Superfan. Throwback to Dave for his birthday week! 🥳🥳 Dave wins in the Best Supporting Role category for making our little company a reality. While I do the majority of the customer-facing work, he’s the behind-the-scenes magic no one talks about. The flowers are the part we want you to focus on, but there’s so much that happens to make the pretty parts possible. The tedious accounting tasks, staying current on licenses and taxes, building specialized things for transporting flowers or garden beds, and the list goes on ♾️ . These are all things Dave does while working a pretty demanding full-time position outside of Bloom Co. Not to mention being a fully present father to 3 and partner to me. Dave’s quietly the hardest worker you’ll ever meet. He deserves all the recognition for his efforts that he’ll never ask for or brag about. Not all '80s music has withstood the test of time. I mean, one shouldn't consider the synthesizer an aggressive instrument, but it was. Watch an hour-long block of MTV from 1983 (say hi to jubilant JJ Jackson for me!) and you'll see what I mean. But if you want something done right, get a couple of Davids to do it. There are nearly 11,000,000 of us in the US alone, so it shouldn't be hard to find a pair of them, much like I've done to join @vinyl_is_life_ for #vinylTWOsdays with a duo whose music endures. When I was a teenager, I used to play this cassette as I'd begin the hour-long drive from my hometown to Duluth. At the time Duluth's population was only about 70,000 people, but when you're from a region of towns with 3,000 - 5,000 people, it seemed like an urban paradise. The boomtown I sought had The Last Place on Earth reckid store (the owner is now in federal prison, that's an interesting tale), respectable hobby/comic shops, a huge Aladdin's Castle with all the latest quartersucks, etc. All set to the backdrop of Lake Superior's majesty; it's a shame we have to share its shores with the Yoopers. I would say this is the music you'd be inclined to hear today, except there's actual singing. It's not just grunting, wailing, and growling their way through the lyrics. I don't know wtf pop singers are doing today, but please stop. If your voice sucks, learn how to play guitar. But quit making those noises with your voice, they're abnormal. Keep it up and Freddie Mercury's ghost is going to come for you. 14 years ago discovered @lochlomondband’s “chamber pop” genius at @pdxpopnow fest, had them play on my @kcsbfm radio show a year later. Went to all their SB gigs over the years, & helped get them regular radio promo, including one early experiment in live remote concert broadcasting on KCSB. Have stayed in touch with band leader @ritchiewhy all these years. Reached out to the talented multi instrumentalist @davedepper on a lark a few days ago on Messenger. (I actually met him first on tour with @joliehollandmusic at @sohosb.) He’s now lead guitar for @deathcabforcutie. Dave almost missed my note, but lo and behold I got to experience their concert last night as a result. With @therealylt opening. Last Bowl show of the season. 💔 Dave is f’n great, btw.
