The very first morning in Sumbawa. My plan to watch the sunrise from the coast of West Sumbawa failed due to the late arrival of the ferry. I ended up watching the sunrise from the ferry and it was a particularly beautiful morning from the harbour at Poto Tano. Maybe it wasn’t, maybe because it was a new sight for me, especially when I noticed the presence of Lombok’s own Mount Rinjani to my right. The 7am sun was a little more intense than I’m used to, but somehow it was a little cool (not for long though), the air felt so fresh, everything felt new and exhilarating. I started off slowly, mainly to get a good look at Mt. Rinjani from across the sea, and later realised that a particular area called Kertasari had instantly become my favourite. As the clock struck 9:30, I pushed myself to avoid arriving too late at Sekongkang, the finish line. The climbs got harder as I got closer to Sekongkang; maybe it was the high percentage of average gradient, maybe it was the heat. Later that night, one of the locals asked me about the difference between riding in Lombok and Sumbawa, and he pointed out the intensity of the Sumbawa sun. It was definitely the heat that made me struggle.

Ich habe ja gern alles dabei, ob Werkzeug, ob es doch noch eine Weste ist, Verpflegung ... und das muss ja schließlich alles irgendwo hin. Trikottaschen stopfe ich ungern voll. Kleiner Rahmen, mittelgroßes Problem. 😅 Finde da mal eine passende Rahmentasche, in die a) auch bissl was rein geht und b) ich auch noch Flaschen in die Halter bekomme. Gefunden habe ich sie bei @rockbros_de. Für die tägliche Trainingseinheit bekomme ich da alles rein, was ich für nötig erachte. 😉 Testen konnte ich auch die Lenkertasche mit dem BOA Verschluss. When you’re feeling down, pack 3-4 saddlebags with the essentials you need to live outside on your own: sleeping, cooking, washing up, photography and drawing. The aim is clearly to « disconnect ». I join @ade_devalence and @elise_dumg in a clearly Mediterranean climate and setting, with the mission of reaching some well-known massifs of Provence. On this first day, the crossing of the Alpilles offers us an exceptional playground: olive trees, garrigues, vineyards, and trails that roll out their carpet of pebbles in every direction. Before Eygalières, the entrance to a cemetery surprises us with its large gate decorated with a cross with blatant phallic symbolism. After a few good laughs and a much-needed shower, the day ends on the porch of a cute little chapel. The sunset offers us fabulous colours and plays hide and seek with the mountains.. Our three mattresses are spread out side by side on the stone that has been heating all day. A real delight. The sky is clear. The night will be gentle and will have tried to erase all my worries. — Quand le moral est dans les chaussettes, on fourre dans 3-4 sacoches l’essentiel pour vivre dehors en autonomie : nécessaire pour dormir, cuisiner, se débarbouiller, photographier et dessiner. Objectif « déconnexion » clairement annoncé. Je rejoins Adélaïde et Élise dans un climat et un décor clairement méditerranéen, avec comme mission de rallier quelques massifs bien connus de la Provence. En cette première journée, la traversée des Alpilles nous offre un terrain de jeu exceptionnel : oliviers, garrigues, vignobles, et des pistes qui déroulent leurs tapis de cailloux dans tous les sens. Avant Eygalières, l’entrée d’un cimetière nous étonne par sa grande grille ornée d’une croix au symbolisme phallique flagrant. Après de bons fous-rires et une douche nécessaire pour toutes au robinet, la journée se termine sur le porche d’une mignonne petite chapelle. Le soleil couchant nous offre de fabuleuses couleurs en jouant à cache à cache avec les montagnes. Nos trois matelas sont étalés côte-à-côte sur la pierre qui a chauffé toute la journée. Un délice. Le ciel est clair. La nuit sera douce et aura tenté d’effacer tous mes tracas.

This was an absolute banger of a ride! Wind turbines of Trtar-Krtolin and cycling route no 008. is perfect for mountain bike users but I was also very pleased when riding my gravel bike. The route is not easy, lot of climbing and loose gravel. But the views! It was one of the most beautiful places I have ever been in my life. Even tho Krtolin is only 500 m above the sea level but being close the sea itself makes huge difference. I needed to hike my bike to the very top but I felt the joy of discovering new place. I did not expect to witness such beauty so close to the place where we stayed. . To miejsce to był totalny sztos! Turbiny wietrzne z elektrowni Trtar-Krtolin ciągnące się rzędem po grzbiecie masywu górującego nad Szybenikiem i fragment rowerowej trasy 008. Miejsce idealne dla kolarstwa MTB, ale na gravelu też miałam masę frajdy. Trasa nie jest łatwa: luźny szuter i całkiem sporo podjazdów. Na sam wierzchołek Krtolin (znajdujący się poza szlakiem 008) musiałam butować ze względu na kamienisty podjazd, ale warto było! Niby tylko 500 m n.p.m. ale widoki nieziemskie. Wspaniale było poczuć radość odkrywcy bo kompletnie nie spodziewałam się, że znajdę coś takiego tak blisko miejsca, gdzie się zatrzymaliśmy. Barry Roubaix 100 was a blast! 😅 So fun seeing lots of friends and family throughout the weekend! Race started out quite chilly at 35°. Pushed hard to stay with the front group through the first 10 miles and was surprised the pace was fairly mellow until the first two track section at mile 18. Chaos ensued with the deep sand sand, puddles and ruts. Was happy to only have to get off my bike once and kept a steady pace throughout the first 40 miles. Started to fade a bit after maybe spending a bit too much energy staying in the top 20 riders but it was also tricky to eat much with thick gloves and riding in close quarters for the first half of the race. Slogged a bit for the last half of the race but was happy to have several small groups to work with to combat the constant 20mph winds. Ended up 2nd for women’s overall and 42nd out of 300 psycho killers! 102 miles in 5:44 (17.8 mph avg) and 7,000ft climbing HUGE day for the @bissell_abg_cycling team, so proud of everyone’s efforts! Such amazing teamwork throughout the day. @davidbrower9 took the PRO men’s win and 4th for @judah.gus ; PRO women’s: 2nd (@maria_doering) 8th (@maib.noonan) and 9th (@ellory_clason) in women’s overall! U32 age group win @anabelmillermtb and an age group podium win for team manager @sonofagustav Pavement ends does such an amazing job wrangling 5,000 racers/family and friends throughout Barry county! Hard but great day in the office at @barryroubaix1 After some registration errors @amirdanel and I ended up starting in Wave 2. We knew it was going to be a hard fight and we both managed to TT and navigate through the field starting 3 min down from wave 1. I managed to place 33rd in the overall men’s standings for the 62mile event which I am extremely proud of. It was a really long day chasing. Barry Roubaix 2024 62 mile!! This race was so so much fun with an awesome team! It was chilly in the morning with a little bit of snow flurries, but was such a beautiful day. I felt strong during the race and had fun riding with some super talented women on this fast fun course. We came, we conquered, we saw. Of course it’s always great to come home and race in home soil but man it feels good to stand on the top step of @barryroubaix1 The entire @bissell_abg_cycling team gave me everything I needed to bring the trophy home to Michigan and @judah.gus slayed himself keeping me safe in the breakaway all day. Racing around here generally brings me a great amount of stress because I know everyone watching me from the sidelines. Walking around the expo before and after podium and seeing the familiar faces and getting to chat with the people who made me love racing made the whole trip. The Beechworth Granite Classic 2024… In the words of @mitchbowen , What (The Hell) is Gravel?! I think, for me, the @beechworthgraniteclassic weekend, hosted by @bridgeroadbrewers , pretty much nails it. A weekend of exploring beautiful back roads of mixed terrains, with a group of fab people… riding at whatever pace is your comfort zone and having a generally fab time. We (@loska_loves and I) rode the 45km route, opting to take our time and enjoy the views and the vibes with zero pressure. While plenty of folks took on the 90 and 115km loops at a higher pace, which I’m often also up for, we too things more chill and had time to take it all in. The shorter course was still plenty interesting and challenging with 800+ VM of climbing and also met up with the last 25km of the longer courses to take in some of the same fun finishing sections and pass by some of the trail side highlights that the organisers had in store for all… including musicians, DJ, donuts and distilled delights. At the finish, there was a super fun wee event village with food and drink options, as well as gravel games and general fun and frolics. This made a great place to hang out in the sun (we had perfect weather 👌) to recuperate and maybe wait for other pals to come across the line after their ride, if you come in earlier. The other riders on the shorter course really showed the variety in the gravel scene with a good mix of gender and generations as well as an eclectic collection of bicycles with some classy steel alt-bar steel numbers and a bunch of retro 90s 26er MTB’s proving that any bike with a descent bit of rubber is gravel-capable. For me, that’s what it’s all about. Got a bike? Go and gravel! Absolutely fun filled weekend. Dirty Sunday 125 k 🥈 This race taught me a lot and fueled the flame for racing, that had been dying out a little. Was comfortable in a good group leading the women’s race when I had a big puncture after 25k. Spent 6(!) minutes fixing it since I didn’t bring a Co2 (learning #1). Thought the race was over, but started the chase and passed one group of guys after the other. With 50k to go I’d made contact with the leader @miepedersen again (learning #2 I ain’t over till it’s over). We raced hard but none of us managed to drop the other (learning #3 racing is FUN!). During the last 25k I was on the verge of cramping (learning #3 carbs isn’t everything - electrolytes matter too). This past weekend, I headed out to Americus, Kansas, for the 3rd consecutive year to participate in @flinthillsgravel. This event is special! Small town vibes with a big race feel. Essentially, this race has everything you would expect from one of the bigger events in a smaller package. I competed in the challenge route and a challenge it was. 88 #biggravelmiles through the Flint Hills with the last 30ish miles being directly into 30-40 mph winds. That being said, it was a fantastic day to ride a bike in this gorgeous area.
