I loved putting together this Star Wars-inspired piece for the @bittersweetstudios showcase so much, that I submitted my video to @polesportorg for the PSO Pisces Virtual Competition in the Championship Level 4 category. And WOW. As I watched the amazingly talented women in my category, I honestly thought there was a solid chance I wouldn’t even place in the top 3 🤩. I cut out the original pattern which called for an under bust dart, but I think it will be too severe and see how the armhole gapes? It would need another dart there. So, I moved the peice down, smoothed out the armhole line, (to add fabric on top when I cut out the next peice) and gathered under the bust instead of darts. Mock-up for the mermaid skirt minus the bottom ruffel. I think I want a more exaggerated curve for the hem. I didn't end up using either of the patterns I picked. I used the bottom of last year's Christmas dress, because I knew it fit me through the waist and hips and would be about the right length. Then I curved the pattern in near the knees to give it a more mermaid look. I found amazing patterns. The simplicity pattern is perfect for the back and most of the bodice. I just need to adjust the neckline, which the 3rd picture will account for. I found 2 butterick patterns that have the right line for the mermaid skirt.
