Today the classes closed out our climbing unit with a trip to @trianglerockclub. This was the first time that most of these kids have had an opportunity to climb. After a quick orientation and belay test they were able to partner up and climb for the day. This is one of the best days of the semester for me. To get to watch these kids push their personal boundaries, to see how they support each other to try new challenges, and all the smiles they share together when they accomplish whatever their goal was. No matter how many times I hear a student say “I never thought I could do that”, or “Did you see that? This boulder was quite a battle. I gave 29 attemps at the paddle dyno, then gave up and tried a static beta, which took another 37 attempts before I realized I needed to counter the spin of my hips. I managed to do all the moves on my v9 project today and even made it from the start to the last hold during 2 different burns, but no dice. Confident it will go soon enough though.
