This practical introduction to Buddhism was given by His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche for people who are interested in exploring basic Buddhist principles, how it relates to other major spiritual traditions, and how we can integrate it into our lives right now without having to attend meditation classes, tedious Dharma courses, long retreats or trying to make sense of the large number of scriptures. As part of this easy-to-understand talk, Rinpoche skilfully weaves in key concepts such as karma, reincarnation, ethical conduct, the mind, how to meditate and how to apply the teachings in modern times. In particular, Rinpoche employs examples of his own experiences to help us understand and relate to the topic better. Let us discuss and learn on this Sunday’s blog chat, 19th May 2024 @ 8 pm (GMT +8) #tsemrinpoche #tsemtulku #blogchat #dorjeshugden #dharma #educational #dharmaquiz #dharmadiscussion #knowledgeispower #knowledge #buddhism #buddhist #buddha #tibetanbuddhism #kechara << Topic to read up >> An Introduction to Buddhism by Tsem Rinpoche https://bit.ly/IntroToBuddhismTR << Blog chat venue >> https://www.tsemrinpoche.com/chat

His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche had a deep artistic inclination from as far back as he could remember. As a child, Rinpoche could not stop staring with admiration at the thangkas and Buddha images in the Kalmyk temple in New Jersey, asking endless questions about them. It was highly unusual for a child to spend hours looking at old thangkas with such insatiable curiosity. Given the scarcity of Buddha images in America at the time, Rinpoche resorted to drawing Buddha images, copying them from books and gifting them to friends for protection and blessings. It became a lifelong passion for Rinpoche to share Buddha images with others, making them available as pendants, statues, thangkas, and more. In particular, Rinpoche always ensured that the iconography of the images were accurate and followed authentic scriptural sources. This passion eventually led to the establishment of Kechara’s retail outlets. Rinpoche often explained that the iconography of Buddhas is a roadmap to enlightenment, and frequently shared pictures of Buddha statues and thangkas with his students and friends. Here are some of the pictures and messages on Buddhist art that Rinpoche shared with us. ➡️ Messages inspired by Buddhist Art 🎨✨✨✨ https://bit.ly/MessagesInspiredByBuddhistArt This teaching is part of the Tsem Rinpoche Wisdom Treasury – the collected works, writings and teachings of H.E. 💐 💖 𝑯𝙖𝒑𝙥𝒚 𝑴𝙤𝒕𝙝𝒆𝙧'𝙨 𝘿𝒂𝙮 𝙖𝒏𝙙 𝙢𝒐𝙧𝒆 💖 💐 In Malaysia, the months of May and June are notable because we come together to celebrate the kindness of two of the most cherished people in our lives — our mother and father. Mother’s Day falls on the second Sunday of May and Father’s Day falls on the third Sunday in June. May is also an important time to honour and recognise the important roles that teachers play in our lives, with Teacher’s Day on May 16th. “How kind our mothers are to us. How kind our fathers are to us. How kind our teachers are to us. All of us have someone very kind in our lives that nurtured us. Never forget their kindness. Never live your life like you did it on your own…impossible.” – Tsem Rinpoche Here are 20 tweets from Rinpoche providing practical advice on the importance of kindness and how to practise it. Let’s celebrate kindness by embodying it in our daily actions and creating ripples of positivity in the world. 🌟❤️Celebrating Kindness: 20 Quotes from Tsem Rinpoche ➡️ https://bit.ly/CelebratingKindness 📸 From Tsem Rinpoche’s archives: Rinpoche with his adoptive mother Dana. Rinpoche visited her for the last time before he went to India to be ordained as a monk. Rinpoche was 22 years old then. Rinpoche brought roses for Dana as she loved them and this was the last time Rinpoche saw her. In the picture, Rinpoche is wearing a gold Buddha Shakyamuni pendant that Dana gave him years ago. Rinpoche loved this pendant and Dana herself also wore one always. The pendants that Rinpoche had conceptualised, designed and created for Kechara are inspired by the pendant Dana gave Rinpoche. Some people willingly sign up to endure tremendous training, challenges and 'torture'. But those who have yet to recognize the benefits of this kind of training may say that it is cruel and vicious. Going through training and challenges has many benefits. They will toughen you up for life's vicissitudes, hardships, realities, and disappointments and make you accept life's realities. Buddhism says: “𝑯𝒂𝒑𝒑𝒊𝒏𝒆𝒔𝒔 𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒆𝒔 𝒇𝒓𝒐𝒎 𝒔𝒆𝒓𝒗𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒐𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒔, 𝒃𝒆𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒉𝒖𝒎𝒃𝒍𝒆 𝒕𝒐 𝒐𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒔. 𝑾𝒉𝒆𝒏𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓 𝑰 𝒂𝒔𝒔𝒐𝒄𝒊𝒂𝒕𝒆 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝒐𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒔, 𝒎𝒂𝒚 𝑰 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒌 𝒎𝒚𝒔𝒆𝒍𝒇 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒍𝒐𝒘𝒆𝒔𝒕 𝒂𝒎𝒐𝒏𝒈 𝒂𝒍𝒍 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒉𝒐𝒍𝒅 𝒐𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒔 𝒔𝒖𝒑𝒓𝒆𝒎𝒆 𝒇𝒓𝒐𝒎 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒅𝒆𝒑𝒕𝒉 𝒐𝒇 𝒎𝒚 𝒉𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒕.” As a Buddhist, when we show anger, we will be born in the future with a black face, an unpleasant appearance, and a very bad smell. This is what Buddha stated. If we show patience, we will be reborn with a very fair body, a tall, straight body, a charismatic body, and a body that shines, and a body that smells good, and a body that attracts. Not a desirous attraction, not a bad attraction. An attraction that makes people feel happy. Also when we have anger, it destroys our mental peace. Real anger. If we have anger, it destroys our mental peace, it destroys our mental happiness. It destroys the harmony of our house. And one day of it, two days of it, three days of it, four days of it, five days of it, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, gradually something will pop and break, and then we lose. So as a religious practitioner, as a Buddhist, we say that anger is negative because we can meditate on the negative qualities and the effects it has around us and the effects that it has on the people around us. When we see someone red and screaming and angry for small things, we don’t want to approach that person. And if we have love for them, our love becomes less and less and less and less. It begins to decrease... ~ Tsem Rinpoche Read more ➡️ An Introduction to Buddhism by Tsem Rinpoche ✨✨✨ https://bit.ly/IntroToBuddhismTR This teaching is part of 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗧𝘀𝗲𝗺 𝗥𝗶𝗻𝗽𝗼𝗰𝗵𝗲 𝗪𝗶𝘀𝗱𝗼𝗺 𝗧𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘂𝗿𝘆 – the collected works, writings and teachings of H.E. Kechara was extremely honoured and privileged to host the visit of His Eminence Kensur Rinpoche Jetsun Lobsang Phende, accompanied by his devoted attendant Gen Wangyal. Kensur Rinpoche, now an abbot emeritus, was the first abbot of Shar Gaden Monastery. It was Kensur Rinpoche who steered the monastery through troubled times when they were first forced to split from Gaden Shartse Monastery. Together with the other monks from Dokhang Khangtsen, Kensur Rinpoche established Shar Gaden Monastery as a Dorje Shugden stronghold where the practice and lineage could be protected and preserved. I just couldn’t live your life My parents were 100% against me to follow dharma, study dharma or do dharma in any way. They told me I have to get a real job, real career and make myself respectable. They told me if I did dharma or become a monk, they would lose face and disown me. I didn’t want to do dharma to go against them, but I could not LIVE THEIR version of happiness. To live their ideals of life, happiness and what is right. I just couldn’t. For not obeying them, they made me pay many heavy prices. I didn’t enjoy the punishments, threats and pain they inflicted on me, but it would have been more painful to do what they wanted me to do. I made a choice, that I have to do what’s in my heart and if they don’t agree, I am sorry. I mean no disrespect. I will pay the dues and go all the way. I did what I wanted. (Posted by Sofi Lim, student of HE Tsem Rinpoche) Hmmm, actually that's true, Why Malaysia? After all there are so many other countries that H.E. Tsem Tulku Rinpoche could have gone to. One thing for sure, I am so grateful that he had chosen Malaysia. Otherwise, how would I have connected to Rinpoche's pure lineage of Tibetan Buddhism which Rinpoche had so compassionately propitiated. I can't imagine how much time I had wasted in the deception of samsara before having the merits to receive teachings from Rinpoche. It still amazes me today how such a high Lama could be here in Malaysia and teaching in English!!! Lopon Sonam Tsemo was a great Sakya master and the 4th throne-holder of the Sakya lineage (Sakya Trizin). During his lifetimes, Sonam Tsemo gave countless teachings and sought every opportunity to engage in solitary meditations focusing on his main yidam, Vajrayogini. At 40, the great Sonam Tsemo manifested parinirvana without abandoning his body and transmigrated to Kechara Paradise to inspire future practitioners. An old woman, who was an eyewitness, saw him standing on a rock at the holy spring near Sakya known as Chumik Dzingka. His body ascended gracefully into the sky while still holding on to this dog. As a result, the footprints of Sonam Tsemo and his dog can still be seen in the rock as a field to accumulate merit. The great Tsarchen Losal Gyatso is the 21st lineage holder of the Vajrayogini tantric tradition, stemming from the Mahasiddha Naropa himself. In fact, by engaging in Vajrayogini as his main practice, Tsarchen Losal Gyatso gained high realisations and went on to have several important visionary experiences associated with her. Teacher-student relationships are nuanced, with both teacher and student bringing their dispositions and their histories into their interaction. A healthy teacher-student relationship makes for a healthy Dharma practice. The Dharma teacher and student must have mutual respect and appreciation. If someone is fortunate enough to have the good karma, he or she will eventually find a good teacher who is willing to commit to being the student’s teacher and spiritual guide. The Dharma teacher will guide the student step by step and assist him or her in everyday Dharma practice. The student should take the teachings and instructions into his or her heart and learn the correct protocols of teacher and student relationships. When we avoid work because we are either lazy or do not like someone, these tendencies to be lazy and not liking people will increase over time. There are indeed people who are not kindly motivated or inefficient, but we should not use them as an excuse to avoid responsibilities. To hope for results and do very little contradict the law of cause and effect. Wishing for results while avoiding the work in any form causes small and large delays, even to the point where the results do not manifest at all, at least in our lives. In Tibetan Buddhism, 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐠𝐮𝐫𝐮 𝐢𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐮𝐭𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞. The guru is the person who introduces you to the teachings, explains them to you, and guides your practice of transformation to become a better person. Ultimately, it is the guru who leads you to achieve enlightenment — the goal of all Buddhists. To achieve genuine spiritual progress, it is necessary to understand the special function of the guru, the nature of the guru-disciple relationship, and the opportunities that having a guru offer. Within Kechara, the practice of guru devotion is a central one. In today’s modern world, Buddhism has spread far and wide, especially Tibetan Buddhism with its array of intriguing deities and esoteric practices. However, the foundation upon which the success of these practices depends is guru devotion, which unfortunately is not commonly practised amongst those who class themselves as Vajrayana Buddhists. That is why our founder and spiritual guide, His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche, who himself was well-known for his practice of guru devotion, established the ‘ONE LAMA, ONE CENTRE policy’ in Kechara. We’re going to talk about a very controversial, a very important, the pith of the Buddhist practice, or how we go about Buddhist practice, which is actually guru devotion with the teachings on how to devote oneself to a spiritual teacher correctly. Not fanatically, not disrespectfully, not either of the extremes. But how to devote oneself to the spiritual teacher, why we devote ourselves to them, how to do it, the reasons, the effects, and if you do it wrong, the disbenefits. Without the practice of guru devotion or devotion to one’s teacher, one definitely cannot get to enlightenment. ~ Tsem Rinpoche We will discuss the importance of guru devotion in Part 3 of 𝐑𝐞𝐟𝐮𝐠𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐆𝐮𝐫𝐮 on this Sunday’s blog chat, 24th March 2024 @ 8 pm (GMT +8). << Topic to read up >> Refuge and the Guru https://bit.ly/RefugeandtheGuru << Blog chat venue >> https://www.tsemrinpoche.com/chat . . . . #tsemrinpoche #tsemtulku #blogchat #refuge #gurudevotion #dharma #educational #dharmaquiz #dharmadiscussion #knowledgeispower #knowledge #buddhism #buddhist #buddha #tibetanbuddhism #kechara

Wealth vases are powerful in attracting energies of increase and wealth, including inner and outer wealth. Inner wealth relates to spiritual attainments, and outer wealth relates to material wealth and financial support. Wealth vases are especially effective because of how they are made. “Someone sends some bomohs, chants things in front of your house; the minute you take refuge, his effect becomes nothing. Nothing is more supreme than the Buddha because he is free of all delusion, free of all suffering, he is free of all fears. When we take refuge in a being that is free from all fears, how can we have any fears come to us?” ~ Tsem Rinpoche Rinpoche gives a practical explanation of the core Buddhist pillar of taking refuge in the Guru and Three Jewels, and the importance of guru devotion practice, in a manner relevant to modern Buddhists We will continue Part 2 of Refuge and the Guru on this Sunday’s blog chat, 8th March 2024 @ 8 pm (GMT +8). << Topic to read up >> Refuge and the Guru https://www.tsemrinpoche.com/?p=218836 << Blog chat venue >> https://www.tsemrinpoche.com/chat . . . . #tsemrinpoche #tsemtulku #blogchat #refuge #gurudevotion #dharma #educational #dharmaquiz #dharmadiscussion #knowledgeispower #knowledge #buddhism #buddhist #buddha #tibetanbuddhism #kechara

My mind unsettled, dwelling in depression, absorbed in fear, unable to escape from my lack of self-esteem. Fear of old age, poverty. and extreme loneliness. In today’s materialistic and aggressively competitive society, one measure of success is the power and influence we have over others. This may seem worldly, but like many other aspects of Vajrayana, that which seems samsaric can be transformed into a spiritual path. What makes our actions worldly and samsaric or the opposite is the inherent intention behind them, which can be self-serving or selfless. Seeing that intention or motivation is the key, we can still pursue the same goals but adjust our motivation so that it trends towards spirituality or selflessness. Having an understanding of karma would make that transformation easier. Wangze is Dorje Shugden in a control form specifically to assist us when we are facing difficult situations or dealing with difficult people. Wangze’s practice can help us exert some form of control or influence to turn situations in our favor to achieve virtuous outcomes. They are human qualities to be developed. From this point on, whether you advance further in meditations, whether you’ve advanced further in your studies, whether you advance further in your study of the Bible, the Quran, or the Buddhist Lamrim, whatever you do, if these 10 non-virtues acts are not abandoned or lessened, you will get nowhere in your Dharma practice. You will just be like a big library collecting more and more books. You’ll be just a Dharma scholar who can recite perfectly where this came from, where that came from, where that information came from, who quoted that, what line and what verse that’s from. But when it actually comes from practice, it doesn’t work. That is why when we speak to others about Dharma, when we talk to others about Dharma, when we explain Dharma, people are bored silly. When we talk about Dharma, when we say Dharma, the other person’s trying to hold back their laughter, and we get frustrated. Our ego is about to blow up. Why? We do not have the power of the practice behind us to talk about it. If we have been practising, if we have been doing it ourselves and holding it, when we speak about it, it will have blessed vibrations. It will have a blessed sound. If we do not practise it, and we preach it, it’s the same as a tape recorder. We must practise it ourselves. “When something unpleasant happens, we still react back negatively. When something is not to our liking or to the way we like it to be, we still react back negatively. That is a clear sign that the refuge teachings have not taken root in our minds.” ~ Tsem Rinpoche In this blog post teaching, Rinpoche gives a practical explanation of the core Buddhist pillar of taking refuge in the Guru and Three Jewels, and the importance of guru devotion practice, in a manner relevant to modern Buddhists Let's learn more in this Sunday’s blog chat, 25th February 2024 @ 8 pm (GMT +8). << Topic to read up >> Refuge and the Guru https://www.tsemrinpoche.com/?p=218836 << Blog chat venue >> https://www.tsemrinpoche.com/chat #tsemrinpoche #tsemtulku #blogchat #refuge #gurudevotion #dharma #educational #dharmaquiz #dharmadiscussion #knowledgeispower #knowledge #buddhism #buddhist #buddha #tibetanbuddhism #kechara

Repost from @tsemrinpoche 🐚🐚🐚 “Why can’t we reduce our suffering although we know refuge so well, although we are taking refuge so well, although we can quote it so well? And in fact, when we argue with people, we can take some of the quotes and use them against the person so well. Have it memorised and understood it so well, but why is the negative mind still arising? Why is it still happening? Why are we still suffering? Why is our view still the same? Because refuge has not sunk in. Because refuge, at this point in our lives, is simply something intellectual." ~ Tsem Rinpoche To read more ➡️ Refuge and the Guru 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 https://bit.ly/RefugeandtheGuru ✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨ This teaching is part of the Tsem Rinpoche Sungbum Project – the collected works, writings and teachings of H.E. The Great Buton Rinchen Drub (1290 – 1364) was one of the most erudite scholars of Tibet. He was a prolific translator and is credited with having compiled the Kangyur collection, which contains the Indian scriptures based on the spoken words of the Buddha, and the Tangyur collection, which includes the Indian and Tibetan commentaries of these teachings. During his lifetime, Buton Rinchen Drub was a highly sought-after lama and an avid patron of devotional art. He commissioned many exquisite thangkas on a significant number of subjects, including that of the previous lives of the Buddha, the Buddha’s Twelve Deeds, and other episodes from the Buddha's life, along with thangkas on tantric divinities. To this day, his life story still inspires many who thread the path of spirituality. 🐲🐲🐲 The Year of the Dragon is almost here, and we all hope, pray and wish for abundance - wealth, prosperity and good fortune for the new year. There is nothing wrong with that, especially for lay practitioners. In fact, Buddha says, “Poverty is a suffering in the world for a layman.” Wealth is not in itself wrong. Rather, it is greed, attachment or desire for wealth, and wealth gained in wrong ways that lead us to create negative karma, which then leads us to suffering. We would like to share these 18 tweets from Rinpoche about gaining inner and outer wealth. May all of us be blessed with financial stability and spiritual growth, thus allowing us to make positive contributions to the world. Buddhism offers a multitude of solutions to help us overcome the challenges we encounter in daily life, including problems related to our health, such as illness and disease. From a Buddhist viewpoint, conventional healing methods only provide symptomatic relief, as the ultimate cause of illness lies in the mind. When done properly, Buddhist forms of healing provide symptomatic relief and deeper healing of the underlying causes. Only by addressing these causes can we truly heal ourselves of physical and emotional ills that cause us so much pain and suffering. Posted @tsemrinpoche From a Buddhist viewpoint, conventional healing methods, whether rooted in Western medicine or more traditional forms, only provide symptomatic relief, as the ultimate cause of illness lies in the mind. The root cause of illness is afflictive emotions, the main of which are known as the Three Poisons (ignorance, hatred and attachment). When done properly, Buddhist forms of healing not only provide symptomatic relief but also deeper healing of the underlying causes — the Three Poisons, their combinations and their extensions. Only by addressing these underlying causes can we truly heal ourselves of physical and emotional ills which cause us so much pain and suffering. In this concise teaching, H.E. The image of Ji Gong is romanticised as a dishevelled monk wearing a monk’s hat emblazoned with the Chinese character ‘Buddha’, while carrying a worn-out reed fan in one hand and a wine gourd in the other. After his passing, Ji Gong became somewhat of a folk hero and minor deity in Chinese Taoist folk religion and later became the Buddhist figure that he is known as today. He is frequently mentioned in Chinese folktales, koans (Chan Buddhist parables), and is sometimes invoked by temple mediums to assist in people’s affairs. Ji Gong is said to have possessed supernatural powers that arose due to his spiritual attainments. He would often aid the poor with his abilities and stand up to injustices inflicted upon the downtrodden. However, he was also known for his wild and eccentric behavior, especially for his love of alcohol and meat which were considered sacrilegious amongst the Buddhist clergy of his time. This is consistent with the tantric tradition of Buddhism. Let us learn more about Ji Gong on this Sunday’s blog chat, 28th January 2024 @ 8 pm (GMT +8). << Topic to read up >> Ji Gong – The Crazy Monk of China https://bit.ly/JiGong << Blog chat venue >> https://www.tsemrinpoche.com/chat #tsemrinpoche #tsemtulku #blogchat #jigong #crazymonk #dharma #educational #dharmaquiz #dharmadiscussion #historical #history #legend #enlightenment #buddhism #buddhist #buddha #tibetanbuddhism

The Lunar New Year is approaching, and H.E. Tsem Rinpoche's quotes on generosity are most appropriate at this time as we prepare to celebrate the coming new year with family and friends. When we start practising generosity, we may feel discouraged because of the negative response we have received. However, as we progress on the spiritual path, we should focus more on our sense of universal responsibility or on the spiritual reasons behind our acts of kindness, and not be easily affected by negative responses just like what was mentioned by H.E. Tsem Rinpoche, who founded Kechara Soup Kitchen, one of the largest and oldest soup kitchens in Malaysia: “When I gave to the homeless in the past, I received many types of responses. Some thanked me and talked to me. Some wanted more. Some didn’t want food but money instead. Some stared at me that I would give them anything. Some screamed and ran away. Some just ran. So, I had so many reactions. But you see, how they reacted is okay. I know my intent. I gave and it was between me and my Buddha. Buddha would want me to serve others and benefit others and that is all that matters in the big end.” Check out Rinpoche's quotes ➡️ The Power of Giving: 18 Quotes from Tsem Rinpoche ✨✨✨ https://bit.ly/PowerofGivingQuotes RePosted • @tsemrinpoche #tsemrinpoche #tsemtulku #giving #generosity #wisdomquotes #wordsofwisdom #wisdom #contemplations #tibetanbuddhism #buddhism #focusout

Reposted from @tsemrinpoche Dear refuge seekers, Never knowingly or unknowingly use people or shift our responsibility onto them. Never take advantage of them. In the long run, never let them lose, although methods may differ. Never hurt or harm them or take their possessions, money, and heart. Never break their trust. Never waste their time. Never use them until you change and make them wait. People are fragile, time is short, and people can hurt. Love your parents, friends and those loyal to you. Give of your time, resources, heart, and care, and never get tired or disappointed to do so because your motive is not self-based. Be harmonious because we have a great opportunity to do so. In today's world, Tibetan art is more appreciated as Tibetan Buddhism gains prominence in the world. Today, many sacred Tibetan deity thangkas can be found in various art exhibitions and museums. Like any Buddha image, deity thangkas are considered holy objects and bestow great blessings to their surroundings and the sentient beings within. In the olden Tibetan tradition, thangka painting is a form of Dharma practice. A thangka painter was typically a sincere practitioner of Buddhism who, through practice and study, would be familiar with the various deities, their implements, symbolism, and benefits. Having generated the correct motivation, the artist would imbue each thangka painting with the energy of that specific deity through the power of meditation and visualization during the process of painting it. Thangkas painted by such artists are said to be ‘alive’ and highly blessed through the power of the artist’s practice and attainments. Have gratitude for our abundance, let go of attachment for food and dedicate to those that don’t have, by regularly consciously and happily taking plain/bland food. In today’s day and time, with the advent of technology, many types of entertainment and places to go, communication, and other conveniences, we find very little time for actual hard-core, sit-down-study-meditation spirituality. Therefore, it is essential to make a simple practice, such as the yoga of Lama Tsongkhapa, that is easy for people to access and assess. Despite its simplicity, the yoga of Lama Tsongkhapa covers all the important points that we need in our daily practice of Lama Tsongkhapa. When depression, lack of self-worth, fear, anxiety, and little peace permeate our minds, environment, and situation, meditation such as Lama Tsongkhapa is essential, not an extra. Happy New Year, 1st teaching for 2024!!! This is a great teaching and practice we can use even up till today, thanks to COVID and whatever else out there that's getting us sick 😷😷😷 Reposted from @tsemrinpoche Throughout history, mankind has been plagued by different types of infectious diseases and other medical ailments. Within Buddhism, such outbreaks and diseases are believed to be the result of our collective karma. The root cause of disease lies in the physical harm we inflicted on others in the past, whether in this life or in previous lives. The karma created by those actions returns to us in the form of disease. When we get sick, we often seek medical attention to recover, but frequently neglect to consider treatment on a karmic level. This is where Buddhist healing practices come in, helping practitioners purify negative karma, support the healing process, enhance the efficacy of medical treatments, or even prevent sickness altogether. At the turn of the 21st century, the 2002–2004 SARS outbreak struck. SARS, or Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome, caused widespread panic and fear, although it was not as deadly as our recent COVID outbreaks. During that time, in early 2003, His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche gave a teaching on two practices — White Tara and Black Garuda — in response to the outbreak. At that time, Kechara House had not yet been established, and Rinpoche gave the teaching at a rented premise affectionately named Tara House, to a small group of students and friends. That teaching is presented here, covering these two healing practices as spiritual remedies for outbreaks of infectious diseases. Rinpoche explains the source of the teachings along with the detailed aspects of the practice in his casual, humorous style that continues to have an impact on students from all walks of life. Sometimes when I am doing my mantras, walking, speaking, sharing dharma, eating or just having tea, different thoughts arise. These have been placed into wonderful picture memes by our team here. Picture memes help people to remember thoughts as they are very impactful. I thought to share these with you. ~ Tsem Rinpoche Let’s discuss Rinpoche’s profound quotes on this Sunday’s blog chat (our last blog chat for 2023), 31st December @ 8 pm (GMT +8). << Topic to read up >> Daily thoughts to ponder deeper https://www.tsemrinpoche.com/?p=120515 << Blog chat venue >> https://www.tsemrinpoche.com/chat #tsemrinpoche #tsemtulku #blogchat #quotes #wordsofwisdom #dharma #educational #dharmaquiz #dharmadiscussion #knowledgeispower #knowledge #buddhism #buddhist #buddha #tibetanbuddhism #karma #spiritual #spirituality #kechara

Reposting @tsemrinpoche 🎄🎁🎄🎁🎄🎁🎄🎁🎄🎁🎄 Despite what some say is the over-commercialisation of Christmas, it is at its heart a spiritual celebration honouring the birth of Jesus Christ, whose teachings are the foundation of the world’s largest religion today. According to the Bible, one of Christ’s greatest deeds is how he forgave his executioners and selflessly gave his own life for the sake of humanity. It is his selflessness that has inspired this festive season to be a time of giving. Giving in its truest sense extends beyond just pretty presents under a beautifully decorated Christmas tree; to give generously of ourselves is to give without any agenda or without expecting anything in return. It is important for us to practise the art of giving without agenda because it is this form of generosity that will help us cultivate our spirituality, transforming us into kinder and more compassionate people regardless of our religion. In conjunction with the festive season, I was given the opportunity to share my thoughts on the true spirit of giving with The Star, a major national newspaper with a circulation of 1.5 million. I hope that all Malaysians will continue to endeavour to become better versions of themselves starting this Christmas, and to cultivate their inner beauty which will allow each and every one of us to discover the true meaning of unconditional love that liberates instead of enslaves. With that, I would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. May you have true love, joy and happiness. ~ Tsem Rinpoche 🎄Merry Christmas To All Malaysians 🙏🏼 https://bit.ly/merryxmasmalaysia #merrychristmas #generosity #seasonofgiving #spirituality #compassion #kindness #giving #tsemrinpoche #tsemtulku #wordsofwisdom #wisdom #contemplation #xmas #xmas2023 #buddhism #tibetanbuddhism #currentaffairs

Whether working in a place for a short or extended time, we must treat our colleagues as if we would be working there for 100 years. Wherever we work, we are working with other people who have feelings and impressions, can be happy, and can be hurt. Therefore, we should never think these people do not matter because I will only be working here briefly. Instead, we should think I will be kind and make everyone happy. Then, wherever we go, we create respect, love, care, and good feelings from others. Reposted from @tsemrinpoche Dear Rinpoche, Why is it considered important for vows to be received from someone else who has the same vow? This seems like an Indian cultural assumption. I mean, we don’t necessarily have to receive marriage vows from someone who is married. Why couldn’t we just stand before an image of a deity and directly undertake to practice that deity, without any guru to initiate us? —— Dear XXX, Marriage vows do not take you to enlightenment, nor plant the seeds of enlightenment and it is not sworn to anyone but the one person in front of you. It is a promise. Vows taken from a master, come from their master stemming back to the Buddha who originally gave the vow. Hence, since it arises from the mind and speech of a Buddha, these vows come to be causal for the resultant enlightenment manifested in a Buddha. Once you have taken the vow, it may be renewed during Daju for tantra or in front of an image. Tsem Rinpoche 🖼️ Some lay Tibetan pilgrims came to pay respect to H.E. When we don’t want to do a particular work or project we should do, then how do we expect a project to bear fruit or experience the results. To hope for results and do very little is wishful thinking only. After all, we know for sure, results resemble the action. Results arise from actions. I mean that is just common logic. ~ Tsem Rinpohe Let’s discuss Rinpoche’s sharing on this Sunday, 17th December’s blog chat @ 8 pm (GMT +8). << Topic to read up >> Avoidance https://bit.ly/TR_avoidance << Blog chat venue >> https://www.tsemrinpoche.com/chat #tsemrinpoche #tsemtulku #blogchat #compassion #dharma #education #buddhism #buddhist #buddha #tibetanbuddhism #educational #karma #spiritual #spirituality #kechara #knowledgeispower #knowledge #dharmaquiz

Reposted from @tsemrinpoche Engaging in sadhana daily, ceremoniously performing tsog, offering incense to Buddha images, light from candles frolicking and dancing upon the yidam’s visage on our altar, the blackest tea offerings to the fiercest of guardian deities, donations to temples, attending high tantric initiations, reading Lamrim, doing charity work, reciting mantras, speaking of the Dharma, taking refuge, debate, study and meditation all are wonderful ‘methods’ to practise Dharma. But they would be useless, fruitless and very slow without the guru who introduced us to all of that. It is like the guru is the head of a body and all other practices are likened to the parts of that body. The head of the body is the most important. Therefore the holy 50 Verses of Guru Devotion, the heart practice of those gone to bliss, should be read and practised daily. With supreme understanding of the kindness of my spiritual teacher(s), I show them the deepest respect with my body, speech and mind by holding my vows, confessing broken samayas at all times, studying Lamrim and collecting merit through Lama Tsongkapa’s Guru Yoga daily. – These are the methods to nirvana by Tsem Tulku who was informed he CAN be enlightened if he follows the above. How can we truly love our Dharma friends without loving the Dharma centre from which we met them? How can we love the centre if we don’t contribute to its sustenance and growth? How can we love a centre without loving the guru? If we love the guru, why would we be happy if he compliments us and be unhappy when he tells us the truth? Wouldn’t we just do the Dharma he advises? How can we love the Dharma and not our guru? Do statues speak? And if we love the Dharma, then why do we not put our body, speech and mind into it without further delays, excuses, ‘commitments’, attachments? If we love the Dharma then it shows we love ourselves the RIGHT WAY, we love our parents and we are developing altruism to others. Then real happiness, security and correct action arises. Then we will taste real freedom from ‘ourselves’. (Reflections from when I was at Thubten Dhargye Ling Dharma Centre (USA) living and serving my master, most Venerable Dharmaraja (Dharma king) Geshe Tsultrim Gyeltsen.) – Tsem Tulku, who met this geshe due to great merits from previous lives resulting from clean guru samaya (December 13, 2005). I spent the month and a half with her and you know what? She has impacted me since then. She’s holy, knowledgeable, beneficial, kind, spiritual and extremely generous and very knowledgeable. Unfortunately, she passed away. Before she passed away, she stood up, sat up in bed and did the complete Vajrayogini sadhana and meditations, smiled, laid down and passed away. And that’s incredible. So, her lineage has been passed down to her two daughters and her two daughters are successfully continuing on her lineage in India. I have not met them yet but I heard they are doing quite well but I wanted to share this little blog post on the lady Dr Drolma and to express my admiration for her and strangely, I miss her very, very much. ~ Tsem Rinpoche Let’s learn about this extraordinary Doctor and how she benefitted Rinpoche and so many this Sunday 8pm (GMT +8) on blog chat. << Topic to read up >> Dr Drolma https://bit.ly/DrDrolma << Blog chat venue >> https://www.tsemrinpoche.com/chat #tsemrinpoche #tsemtulku #blogchat #compassion #dharma #education #buddhism #buddhist #buddha #tibetanbuddhism #educational #tibetanmedicine #spiritual #spirituality #kechara #knowledgeispower #knowledge #dharmaquiz

Our 1st Sungbum Project published! And we're sharing some precious teachings and advice from Rinpoche that came to us via SMSes! Yes back in the days when WhatsApp and social media did not even exist. Rinpoche still found creative (not conventional) ways to share the Dharma with us. Reposted from @tsemrinpoche 📱📱📱Remember the days of SMS? We’ve mostly stopped using it now, but long before we had WhatsApp, Telegram, iMessage, Facebook, Instagram, and other social media platforms, Rinpoche would send his students and friends teachings and advice via SMS. The SMS messages would either be bite-sized teachings or split into parts, because there was a limit as to how many characters you could send in a single message! Rinpoche would message us his thoughts, sometimes his personal dreams, his aspirations for us, and shared the Dharma with us. Using SMS to do this was highly unconventional at the time. The messages could come at any time, and sometimes they came at a time when we needed them the most. Here we present these timeless SMS teachings from Rinpoche. We pray they will bless and inspire you on your spiritual journey, as much and if not more than they have for us. ➡️ https://bit.ly/SMSTeachings ✨✨✨✨ 𝘗.𝘚. Everything in life has false dualistic views. If we choose to enter the door of dualism, then we get hurt, disappointed, and bitter in the end. If we choose a better doorway which is emptiness, then the door leads seemingly nowhere yet everywhere. Emptiness of dualism. Whatever we choose, everything ends in death in the end. Everything is forgotten, lost, abandoned and taken away. Why bother to spend your whole life gathering things you can keep for a very short time? So better choose a doorway that at death, leads to something much better. Something you can take…more tangible yet not tangible… your consciousness..mind. Your mind is the only thing you actually ‘own’. It travels ‘with’ you life after life taking on different forms, experiencing, collecting, learning and then back to the same thing again. In the end, there’s no place new in samsara you have not been to. It seems like a journey, but it’s just a vicious cycle. Nothing new to learn, only to re-experience again and again. At the end of each life cycle, we have to start the dying process again… then death, then rebirth, then death, over and over again with no end… pleasurable to the ignorant. A vicious cycle to those who are Awakened. Fired by our attachments, desire and greed we have to take rebirths again and again deceptively thinking it is a new journey or it will be better or it is a place we haven’t been to before. Those are the babblings of the deceived. At the end of each deceptive ‘journey’ we take in Samsara, it always ends in death. No matter what forms we take and what ‘new’ lessons we learn, we never really learn because there is no new knowledge within samsara’s internal boundaries. But if we look outside of samsara’s boundaries, there’s another journey. A true journey. A journey traversed by the Buddhas of the past, and awaiting the Buddhas of the future. This journey has a destination. This destination will not be disappointing or lead to bitterness. It has a wonderful end. But that end will be just the beginning. ~ Tsem Rinpoche From the blog post ➡️ The Beginning ✨✨ https://bit.ly/TR_TheBeginning
