# #Dr. Irileria Muhammad has recently transitioned to an administrative role for an Accounting Firm, after 16 years of experience as an educator in some of Houston’s most underserved communities, including Sunnyside, Hiriam Clarke and Fifth Ward. A product of Houston’s Fifth Ward, Dr. Muhammad graduated from the historic Kashmere Senior High School at 16 years of age. Dr. Muhammad lends her talents to causes that she believes deeply in, including the work she has done eradicating poverty as a volunteer at the Houston Food Bank, ending homelessness through the community projects: “Doing Good on Good Friday” and “Sangria and Service” which are collection drives that have created thousands of care packages to benefit Houston’s Homeless, and advancement through education. Prior to becoming an award-winning educator, she enjoyed diverse careers as a flight attendant, a property manager, and the first black 911 Operator with the San Marcos Police Department. Dr. Muhammad, is a first generation college student, and was the first in her family to earn not only a Bachelor’s degree, but also the first, but not the last, to earn a Masters’ and a Doctorate. Dr. Muhammad enjoys traveling, having visited 26 different countries, and 48 of the 50 United States. In addition to being well traveled, she’s also lived in San Antonio, Texas, Charlotte, NC, Minneapolis, MN, Detroit, MI, and she spent three years working in Abu Dhabi in the Middle East. In November 2020, Dr. Muhammad was able to realize a dream of her own, publishing her first novel, “Drinking Poison”. Precious tiny preemies need your help. We’ve been reminded today, in a stark and heartbreaking way, just how desperately families of preemies in NICU need us to care. It’s a humbling feeling and we are driven to do all we can as quickly as we can. Sometimes the only thing standing between death and a chance at life is money. Money to pay for critical surgical procedures; Money to pay for essential medication; Money to cover the cost of oxygen so that every breath can count; Money to pay for hospital bills so that families can get better discharged; Money for every day essentials and so much more. Sometimes the amounts needed are mind blowing and seem impossible to raise, but we have faith and believe in the collective good and in big hearts for preemies. You want to draw attention to what the Lord is doing in various places. You don’t want to leave the impression that Grace Baptist Partnership is seeking the credit – much less the glory! – for what is happening. God does employ means. And, Grace Baptist Partnership has been a means through which he has worked in numerous places. But humanly speaking – the only sort of speaking I’m able to do – the ‘credit’ resides elsewhere. The credit belongs to the faithful worker who starts where he is, uses what he has, and does what he can. The credit belongs to the longsuffering wife and sometimes neglected children who pay a great price for supporting their husband and father in the work to which God has called him. The credit belongs to the ones who pass out tracts on busy streetcorners; who knock on doors in local neighbourhoods; who set up chairs in rented halls and, who preach good sermons to sometimes less than attentive congregations. The credit goes to those who pray for the various projects in which we are involved 12 months a year rather than one. The credit goes to those who give regularly not just as a result of a special appeal. Funny thing about these sorts of people, though. They are not doing it for credit. When it doesn’t come their way, they are not offended. When it does come their way, they are a bit embarrassed. What motivates them to serve the Lord is a desire for God’s glory. It’s not about them. It’s about him. Please pray that all involved in Grace Baptist Partnership will pursue the glory of God with single-minded focus. Please pray that those whose work does attract attention will not become proud. UPDATE!! Wow! We are so grateful for our community. A few weeks ago, we posted a story about our Pet Food Program. Your response to our need was overwhelmingly gracious. The first photo is what our pet food shed looked like one month ago...on the verge of emptiness. The rest of these photos are the accumulation of donations that have come into our facility either by in-person drop off or delivery the past 3 weeks. The last photo is what our pet food shed currently looks like as of this afternoon...filled with enough bags and cans of pet food to last about 6 months! Not to mention, all of the monetary donations that have flooded in designated towards our Pet Food Program. Thank you to everyone who has generously donated pet food, time, and money to this cause. We are constantly amazed by the way you all support Greer Community Ministries and the people (and pets!) we serve. Stay tuned for updates on the pet food shed and our stock status of pet food.
