I’d at-Hazy again! Wow… The Enola Gay. A divisive machine. I appreciate it for its historical value. But what it did was truly devastating. I’m glad it still exists because it allows a visitor like me to get right up close to an artifact that did change the course of history. For good, or for bad, it’s a history we need to remember, and learn from. The Smithsonian is home to some one-of-a-kind airplanes. They are literally the only ones in existence. During WWII many captured enemy aircraft were sent to the United States to be tested and evaluated. And, unlike a lot of war machines, they were not destroyed at war’s end. So they survive here. Again, WOW! One of the aircraft featured in the November edition of Distelfink Airlines is the Grumman F6F Hellcat. The Hellcat was one of the fighter aircraft used by the U.S. Navy in the Pacific theatre during WW2 and with the F4U Corsair, established fighter superiority over the Japanese Mitsubishi A6M Zero.
