In this landmark site specific installation, Bradford challenges us to consider the current political climate through the lens of the most divisive and violent junctions in our nation’s history, the American Civil War. The artist uses 360 degree cyclorama by French artist Paul Philippoteaux depicting this culminating battle on the final day of the Battle Of Gettysburg as his starting point. Here Bradford commingles reproductions of Philppoteaux’s painting with layers of colored paper and dense materials on the canvas which he shreds. After that, my family joined me and we went sightseeing in DC, and to our surprise, there was no trash on the street at all! In DC this week to visit with friends and to see this exhibit at the National Museum of American History! The novel Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance has had a special place in my heart since my teenage years. Its simple plot and many breakout meditations helped me pursue reading outside my comfort zone: big books!
