The Spirit of Speyside Festival starts next week - an amazing celebration of Scotland's iconic spirit in the place which produces a large proportion of it. More than half the Scotch whisky distilleries in Scotland are in the Speyside region - it really is whisky country! We've been on a wee trip to Speyside this week - purely in the interests of work research of course. We had heard some great things about the GlenAllachie Distillery, near Aberlour so it was lovely to finally get the chance to visit and find out more about this terrific dram produced by Billy Walker, a legend in whisky circles. We enjoyed some great drams on a fascinating tour and we particularly loved the tale behind this view of Ben Rinnes. The patches of snow illustrate the importance of this mountain in the production of whisky. The tiny patch of snow on the left marks the spring which goes into GlenAllachie and the slightly larger patch on the right highlights the source of water for Benrinnes whisky, largely used in blends, including Johnny Walker. And as our lovely guide Sue explained, the water source on the other side of the mountain supplies Glenfarclas distillery. Not bad for a wee mountain in Moray! Thanks to everyone for being so patient waiting to hear when the festival would start. Like so many organisations, we have been humming and hawing about how we navigate the COVID19 guidelines. So this year, we will have the Midsummer festival from Thursday 17 June to Wednesday 23 June and a special Autumn Equinox Festival from Thursday 16 September to Wednesday 22 September. We hope this will allow us some flexibility with any changes to the guidelines. Over April, events will start to appear on the website, but tickets won't go on sale until May to ensure that we will still be allowed to run outdoor events in June. For a small community-run event giving refunds is a lot of work! Sorry for any inconvenience that this may cause. We're sure that you'll love the events we have coming up! After a week of mild conditions the snow & ice has pretty much all gone now, other than a few sheltered spots like our 8th hole on the golf, footgolf & disc golf course. We've also developed a nice snowmelt lake across the fairway, with the Spey in the background running very high, so nowhere for the water to drain away.
