My kind of work from home 😀 Ya girl started a new consulting job yesterday! I'm working with the University where I got my undergrad degree and it feels so good to get back to my roots 🥰 Tim and I both change jobs once every 1-2 years which a lot of people think is crazy, but it actually makes a lot of sense. It's just a bit unconventional... which is totally our thing 🤪 Tim and I both work as consultants in healthcare informatics (aka software for hospitals and clinics to document and track patient info in). Our work is project-based, meaning organizations have specific projects they hire people like us to manage and lead. When the project is over, we're unemployed until we start working on the next project. This means we can take time off between contracts if we want, and then obtain a new one when we're ready to work again. This is how we took 2014 off from work for our year long trip to all 7 continents, and it's also what we did 2018-19 when we took our 500 day honeymoon around the world 🌎 It's incredibly flexible, which suits our lifestyle perfectly! It's also arguably less stable/predictable (though we've never had issues finding jobs when we want them), so it's not for everyone if that's too anxiety inducing compared to an FTE job! Right now we're working remotely (with some occasional work travel to client locations - but rare and "as needed") from Colorado. ❓Questions about how we designed our careers and work from home? No...I definitely got a bit homesick being in a foreign country by myself with no friends. Real talk y’all…this summer was stressful. I didn’t really do my best putting myself, my well being, and my mental health first. My weeks were not filled with adventures like summers past… This changes here. It’s officially unsticking your thighs from chairs season🤣 . This feels like record heat for June and July in Tahoe, and while that’s concerning on so many levels… I’m keeping an open mind and a grateful heart as I’ve been getting creative on different ways I can still enjoy the outdoors despite the temps 🥵 It’s actually pushed me to get mindful movement in earlier in the day before it’s nearly impossible to step foot outside. .
