Another propagation that I cut last night, and let it callus over until today. This is my blushing philodendron, you see those pink stems 😍 💗. The undersides of her leaves are also very pink ( when they’re a bit more mature) and i love it! To not be mistaken with a pink princess philodendron!those are highly variegated and have more of a vibrant pink on their leaves and stems. I like to cut between nodes that have at least 1-2 leaves! Okay, here’s the deal... #storytime I have been successful with this only 1 time and I have been desperately trying to accomplish it again. I recently got another #oxistriangularis and am again trying the very controversial (of this plant because of the rhizome factor) water propagation. I have snipped 2 stems just above the soil and they have been in this glass for 2-2 1/2 weeks now, with bright indirect light and changed water every 3 days. The one time I was successful, it took just over a month before I saw much activity . So far they open and close like they should and the stems are still firm so I’m hopeful 😅 stay tuned! I’m at a loss for words so I’ll steal a quote from the movie Selena “…me siento muy… me siento muy… EXCITED!!” 😜 This is the first time I tried propagating Sandy. I took some cuttings and put them in water and then I took another leaf and cut it in half and placed the cut portion in moss inside a prop box. The portion of the cut leaf with the stem has roots growing but no babies yet. These teeny tiny babies are so stinkin cute 🫠🥹 Have you tried propagating watermelon peperomia or peperomia in general? Hey plant peeps! I promised to share my learnings on propagating ZZ plant stems in water, and here it is! 🌱 ➡️ Choose healthy stems: Select stems with at least two nodes and a few leaves. Avoid taking cuttings from weak or damaged stems. 🌿 ➡️ Cut the stem correctly: Cut the stem at an angle, about 1-2 inches from the node (where the leaf meets the stem). This slanted cut provides extra surface area for roots to form, increasing the chances of successful propagation! ➡️ Don't fill the jar too much: Fill the jar with water just enough to cover the bottom part of the stem (about 1-2 inches). This will help prevent the stem from rotting. ➡️ Provide indirect light: Place the jar in a spot with bright, indirect light. The pop of neon was just what the room needed for some different shades of green throughout. Purrrrrrfection 🤌🏾 These cuttings live next to a lamp with a deep yellowish bulb that's usually on from 4-7ish. There is also a north facing window about an arms length away that provides some bright light within the room during the day. I dump and refill it with plain water (sometimes nutrient water if it's lucky) about every 2 weeks. The runt of the litter 💚🌱 This tiny leaf belongs to the last of my alocasia corms (from my first set) to grow roots and make her way from corm elementary (the open water bowl) to corm middle school (the shot glasses). However, though she was the last to graduate, she made sure not to get left behind! So …eh… I tried to finally repot and make a proper support for the beautiful Tortum. This is the second time in our lives together that I attempt this. And you guessed right - again I broke it!!! This time it broke just over the first leaf. So I tried to just put the rest back into the new pot to see if it could root… The one leaf left on the original plant will probably grow a new plant again pretty well. Then I put the two top leaves to root in water and will soon plant these back in this place. WITH a support from the very beginning so that I never will have to try repot this fella again. It is already rooting, so plan should be possible. Maybe it gets help from the Cuban oregano which is propagation champion and possibly sharing some of its growth hormones. Who knows if there is any truth in this. Public Service Announcement to any of my plant friends that buy rooting hormone; quit immediately and stick some #pothos nodes in water. Making your own is just north of effortless, totally natural and SO EFFECTIVE. Pothos (almost any #Epipremnum) is quick and easy to root in water and the water roots it puts out emit hormones into the water as they grow. That water can then be repurposed to root absoflippinglutely anything or painted on hardwoods and grafts. I had this nodeless frond of my #monstera that Mars had karate chopped and I stuck it in a vase just for greenery until it died (there was no node so shouldn’t have been able to regrow it was just too pretty to go straight to compost). Whelp it was in a vase with some neon pothos and today I was thinking it’s been a month and half and the leaf should be curled on it’s way out but NOPE then on closer inspection- it’s still green because it is growing some tiny baby roots. Biology is amazing 😻. Kind of an experiment now because it doesn’t have an active node so probably can’t push new leaves so may just remain a single stalk and leave forevvvva. New dining room case study. So neat. If pothos water can root a front with zero growth points or active nodes it can root anything. Alsoooo holy smokes my birds are busy.
