Titi, who went on the show seeking investment for her brand, Ori Lifestyle, in the sixth episode of the 21st season, televised in February, had the remarkable businesswoman Emma Grede back her with a £60,000 investment for 25% of the company. Titi Bello founded Ori Lifestyle, a hair care brand geared mostly toward Afro-textured hair, in December 2019. Titi experienced substantial hair loss five years before launching her brand due to inadequate hair care methods and a lack of understanding about healthy hair care. Around the same time, her daughter inquired when she could resume wearing the same styles that had contributed to Titi’s hair loss, prompting her commitment to make changes. She immersed herself in learning about hair and scalp health, transformed her and her daughter’s hair, and when the request for support from other mums became overwhelming, she started her hair coaching business. Her background as a hair coach put her in a prime position to understand the pain- points and needs of Afro-textured hair and how to develop products and services to meet these needs. In less than two years, her products were in Selfridges and Harrods. However, she knew she would need access to investment and business support to withstand the economic downturn. Sivels grew up in rural Virginia before attending MIT, where he majored in nuclear science and engineering with a focus on nuclear nonproliferation and a minor in middle school education. She then earned a Ph.D. in nuclear engineering and radiological sciences from the University of Michigan, where she was the first African-American woman to graduate from the program. Sivels was also the founder of the Women in Nuclear Engineering and Radiological Sciences group. A congregation that brought together women of all races and ethnicities to discuss the challenges of being a woman pursuing a degree in STEM. Sivels affirms that community is essential, #InHerWords “So when you feel alone or when you feel like you don’t have anyone to talk to — it’s harder for you to want to stay in the program. (STEM) is a male-dominated field, especially nuclear — it’s quite old and specialized.
