I have absolutely nothing bad to say about it. It was just as compelling, magical and cosy as the first book, and I am so obsessed with Emily and Wendell it isn’t even funny. ~ The plot was definitely more fast paced than the previous book, but I really enjoyed jumping straight into this whimsical world. I loved the setting, the characters, the storyline, the writing — everything was just absolutely perfect. I struggled to put the book down before getting ready for work, I just wanted to keep reading. ~ I feel like this book did a good job setting everything up for the next one, and I have a feeling things will get vastly more complicated and intense, but i’m SO EXCITED. I really enjoyed learning more about the different types of faeries and their realms, whilst also reuniting with old characters from the first book. The addition of Ariadne and Rose was refreshing, and I had so much fun uncovering the mystery of the Ribbon man and De Grey. ~ Emily and Wendell. Ahhhhhhhh, I love them SO MUCH. Their growing connection makes my heart swirl and there is one scene, towards the end of the book, that made me giggle and kick my feet. I love them and can’t wait to see where their story goes. ~ Overall, I have nothing but praise for this book. It was just as PERFECT as the first one and I am so so ready for the third book, I NEEEEEED it in my hands right now !!!

Review below: Rated ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Started Read: 6/04/2024 Finished Read: 8/04/2024 Ava & Alex, there story starts a little bit earlier on in each others lives. They are both linked by Ava’s brother whom is Alex’s best friend. Alex is asked to look out for Ava and the story then unfolds. However the lies and twists aren’t exactly what you’d expect. It was a good read and I enjoyed it to continue on to the others.

Стиль у Бакмана, как по мне, своеобразный. Он использует лексический повтор, абзацы часто начинаются с вопросов (это напомнило мне школьные сочинения), и сам текст суховат. Killers of the Flower Moon is easily one of the best books I’ve read this year, and likely one of the best non-fiction books I’ve ever read. For those who haven’t read the book, or seen Scorsese’s newest film, this story follows the case of the Osage Murders in modern-day Oklahoma, a series of gruesome crimes committed against the Osage Nation in the early 20th century. The book is incredibly researched and provides an in-depth exploration into the stories of both the victims and the perpetrators of these injustices, while also acknowledging the pervasive institutional structures that allowed for these tragedies to occur. This book tells an important story, not only about the many injustices committed against native populations throughout history, but also about the generational trauma these acts carry. It’s a book that makes you as a reader think, and sit with the discomfort of juxtaposing ideas and their legacy. I picked up a book mid way through last year. I read to clear my mind and to have a break🖤. I am a busy mum & wife & I work full time. I set my goal for 30 books. Just a random number not a limit or an easy to achieve and I honestly wasn’t counting. To me a book in a series is a book not 3 or 5! But getting this pop up on my Goodreads kinda gave me a little bit of a smile. Because that’s 30 books from my TBR and if I’m honest I have read nearly 14 of them over my 6 week recovery. There is definitely more added to my TBR but hey we are all the same!

🇹🇭🇹🇭🇹🇭 I was lucky enough to get to spend a significant chunk of the last month in Thailand, so naturally this is reflected in my reading! One of my favourite ways to learn more about a place that I’m visiting is to pick out some iconic literature from that country in advance and load up my kindle so I’ve got plenty of local stories to keep me entertained on holiday. Four Reigns was the first of my Thai reads and this sweeping historical epic was a perfect companion as I spent my days wandering through Bangkok’s royal palace and strolling along the Chao Phraya river. It tells the story of a woman named Phloi, beginning with her entering into service in the palace’s Inner Court in the 1890s and concluding with her death in the 1940s after witnessing a total transformation of her homeland. The Inner Court is a world apart, made up of the wives and daughter of King Chulalongkorn as well as the women who serve them and through Phloi’s eyes the reader is granted a glimpse of this unique world. When I heard this was the ‘national novel’ of Thailand, I was intrigued but honestly braced for it to be a little dry. Imagine my delight when Four Reigns turned out to be a warm, funny and intimate account of one woman’s life and loves and by the end of the novel Phloi and her family feel like dear old friends. Much more Austen than Tolstoy if you get my drift. The view we are granted of the royal family and the Thai aristocracy is somewhat rose-tinted but this is only to be expected given this was serialised in a national newspaper and the author went on to become Prime Minister of Thailand! De afgelopen maand ben ik even offline geweest. In mijn persoonlijke leven heb ik de afgelopen periode een aantal tegenslagen en negatief nieuws gehad. Ik moest daar even mijn aandacht op vestigingen en gelukkig gaat het al op veel vlakken beter! •De husband en ik hebben besloten om uit elkaar te gaan en zitten nu midden in onze scheiding. Gelukkig zijn we nog heel goed met elkaar maar het is toch emotioneel en veel geregel! •Twee mensen in mijn intimi kring hebben kanker, en dat nieuws sloeg in als een bom. Gelukkig worden beide goed behandeld en zijn er positieve vooruitzichten. •Door de scheiding komt onze woning te koop en moeten we allebei een andere woning. Good morning bookworms I love plots that play with the mind and I read this one a few months back and I’d say It does it well Plot: Perfect daughter, Perfect role model and a successful star up business owner, 25 year old Anna O is found deep asleep after stabbing both her best friends 4 years later, not a blink but now the case needs to end, she needs to wake up and there’s only one person who can Dr. Benedict Prince, who’s a forensic psychologist who specializes in sleep. Will he be able to? what i loved: 1. The plot itself, mysterious and full of twists, a new subject to me so i was very intrigued, But, it was easy to solve the mysteries at around 30% in, It managed to still leave me shell shocked at the very end So big up to that 2. Multiple characters and timeline which kept us deeper in the story and i would say caused even more mystery what i didn’t like: 1. There were some scenes that were too dragging, scenes that could have easily been skipped example we didn’t need a whole journal entry on an old article on sleepwalking when it could have been explained in a paragraph 2. I hated how Dr. Prince’s character was portrayed. In the beginning, we are made to assume he’s a successful psychologist, author of books, and so we expect him to be confident in his work but throughout the book, he’s a weakling, confused, distracted, slow to react, too many theories in the mind and mostly played victim and never the psychologist I rate this one 3.5 stars and I’d like to thank @Netgalley for the opportunity to read this ARC in exchange of my honest review I’d recommend this to anyone who loves mystery and psychology genres. The Walter Scott Prize longlist was announced back in February. The first picture on this post is taken from the prizes website. Scroll through to see my dreamlist and prediction. Historical Fiction was always a favourite genre of mine and following this prize in the last few years has really helped get me back into it. I actually had planned, for the first time this year, to post a contenders post, but time ran away with me. I was kicking myself when the longlist was announced as, in the event, four books I'd read featured on the list. With the shortlist due to be announced in May (the prize don't announce specific dates in advance) I thought I better get my post done sooner rather than later this time! A quick look at previous shortlists shows that in 2023 it featured 7 books, in 2022 4 books and in 2021 5 books. So, who knows how many books we will see this year. Six maybe? That's the number I've gone with anyway. We shall see! Unlike most other prizes, interestingly, the prize have a panel of judges who judge it every year. So, sticking to my now traditional format, I've done a Dreamlist and a Prediction (of sorts!). The Dreamlist is obviously the easiest to compile. I've read four (The Fraud ((which I'm currently rereading by listening to the audio which is done, brilliantly, by Zadie herself!)) , Cuddy, Great Pain, House of Doors). All four I really enjoyed and I would love to see them all shortlisted, truth be told. I have two here ready to read (Music ((my current read)) & Absolutely). Of the others, I'm really interested in 'Upper Country' and 'Mister Timeless Blyth'. If my library had them I'd read them, but they don't. I was interested in 'Hungry Ghosts' but I've heard it has some harrowing content which I just can't face right now, but I know it's highly regarded. The same applies to any books about war which rules out most of the rest for me at the moment. That and availability. As for a prediction, well, in common with most prizes, let's be honest! The judges and I rarely agree. Normally, my favourites get left behind on the longlist, but not always. So I'm not expecting the shortlist to feature many of... CONTINUED IN PINNED COMMENT

💕 ARC review 💕 An absolute sheer joy of a story. It has everything. Vulnerable FMC with an underlying strength. Sensitive but hot as fudge, possessive MC. A history between them spanning years and full of angst, heartbreak, strength and finally the acknowledgement and acceptance of their undying love for each other. I particularly love the dual p.o.v of this series of books, the perspective of both Jameson and Penny really locks in all the feels when they finally get their happy ever after. How Ashley Munoz captures all the small nuances of multiple tropes (MC, small town, marriage of convenience etc) and weaves them into this masterpiece, is pure magic and talent. BOOK REVIEW: Castle Ever Dark, Sara Knightly. Rating: 5/5 ⭐️ ( I received an Advance Review Copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. ARC received via @booksirens ) @saraknightlybooks outdid herself with this sequel to Secrets Ever Green. It holds even more questions, mystery and magic than its predecessor, along with an added eerie and unsettling undertone. Her writing is just as gorgeously descriptive, mystic and enthralling as ever, and I found myself completely submerged in life at the castle, so much so that I stayed up until 7:30am to reach the final page! The pacing of clues appearing and information being revealed was executed perfectly in my eyes, and I didn’t find myself losing interest at any point which is something that I struggle NOT to do - I was thoroughly captivated and enchanted from start to finish. I enjoyed the Count’s point-of-view chapters dotted throughout the story. Along with Ivy’s POV, they slowly began to weave together to reveal the dark secrets of the castle and the dangers that lurked around every corner. Learning the Count’s reason for his obsession with the carpenters of Windermere brought a whole new understanding to the story. The twists and revelations that started to come into light (especially during the second half of the story) explained so much but still left enough mystery and questions for the next book to answer. It was fast-paced but with plenty of tension and feelings 💕 I loved that it didn't happen overnight, and she was his neighbour over a year before the puzzle pieces fell into place 🧩 and they started to become more! The cute small gestures of shovelling her driveway or mowing her lawn, which Marlow originally thought her landlord was paying him to do 🥰 Dylan was a grump whose heart only softened for the people he loved & cared about 🫠 Once Marlow stumbled into his life, his blank canvas became full of colour 🖌 Lola, however, did steal the show and was just adorable & made me laugh multiple times throughout 🦄 her and Marlow were perfect together ❤️ I can't wait to go back to Aspen Grove ☀️
