🔪Thriller Book Review🔪 Only If You're Lucky by Stacy Willingham (@stacyvwillingham) 5⭐ Margot spent her entire freshman year at Rutledge as a recluse as she suffered through the pain of her best friend, Eliza, dying at the end of their senior year of high school. Now during sophomore year, she is pulled into the orbit of the magnetic Lucy Sharpe. Lucy is everything Margot isn't, and she can't help but become enthralled with her and her 2 best friends. But when a brutal murder happens on campus, terrifying secrets about all of them start rising to the surface. Stacy Willingham is an auto-buy author for me! While I found this to be a slightly slower burn than her first two books, I thought it was so well done and it didn't take away from my enjoyment at all! The level of intricacy that was developed among the layered secrets was so captivating. The characters didn't feel forced or overly complicated. I loved how this ended too.... It was believable without being predictable and boring. #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #audiobookstagram #audiobookstagrammer #audiobooksarebooks #ilovetoread #readmorebooks #readingchallenge #reading2024 #readinggoals #books #bookreview #michaelbereading #onlyifyourelucky #stacywillingham #thrillerbooks #thrillersofbookstagram

For my quarterly update I decided to make a reading goal bingo board (inspired by @literarydiversions). My theme is The Final Frontier because I'm not buying books this year, but reading what I currently own and for me, that's kind of a final frontier. As of the end of March, this is where I am in my goals for the year! #bookstagram #readingchallenge #readingbingochallenge

📚Book Review📚 Death Sentence (Chronicles of Sobek Book II) Author: @chroniclesofsobek My Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Publishes 4/30 Thank you to @chroniclesofsobek and @booksirens for the eARC of this book in exchange for an honest review!
I do not usually reach for science fiction when I’m deciding what is next for me to read, but with this book, I’m so glad I did! I connected with the author on Threads, and he sent me an eARC of his book in exchange for an honest review. This book had me hooked from the beginning. I didn’t read book I in this series (Anubis and the Exodus), but I felt like Speranza explained enough about the war and what happened in Book I that I didn’t miss out on much from not reading it first. After reading Death Sentence, however, I have added Anubis and the Exodus to my TBR! This book has everything I wanted in a science fiction novel - rival factions of a race warring against each other, aliens (the tall, big-headed, gray, black-eyed aliens that I always think of when I think of aliens!), reptilian shapeshifters, and a man (reptilian) who is trying to race against his own mortality in order to save his world and leave a better one for his children to thrive in. I really enjoyed how much this book tied into the historical events that were happening at the time in which the book takes place. It was interesting how he tied the Monarchy to the wars that we as humanity went through, as well as how he tied together Area 51 and what happened in Roswell, New Mexico to the aliens of the Republic! I had to speed-read the last 15% of Death Sentence because it felt like I still had so many unanswered questions! The ending answered so many of my questions, but still left open my questions about the impending invasion with the Emperor - leaving the door wide open for Book III in the Chronicles of Sobek series, which I will definitely be reading when it comes out! . . . . . . #currentread #bookstagram #booksofinstagram #relaxing #2024readingchallenge #reader #goodreads #readingchallenge #currentlyreading #books #bookish #bookworm #booklover #bookishthoughts #scifi #sciencefiction #chroniclesofsobek #arc #arcbook #arcbookreview #booksirens #booksirensarc

This one was a really quick read. It follows Claire, who is a teen in New York. Her home life is kind of a mess, with brothers who are on drugs, violent, and an alcoholic. Her mom is also an alcoholic and her dad is not around much. What she has and what she loves is basketball. *spoilers* I found myself really intrigued by this family. The characters were fleshed out well and I definitely found myself wanting more! I wanted to know if Martin, John, and Bobby were emulating behaviors they’d seen or if there were different reasons for their decisions. Some of the most poignant moments of this novel were the letters and conversations between Claire and John. I know this was set in the 70s but it was absolutely wild how Claire’s brother Bobby treated her and there was no punishment for him. The ending while not a shock, was a surprise to me. I’m glad she got away, and was taking the chance to do life on her own terms. This is a really tough read, but I flew through it. Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for an eARC, and thank you to the publisher for my finished copy as well! #books #reading #booklife #fictionbooks #maggiehill #sundaymoney #shewritespress #readingisfun #bookstagram #bookvibes #readingchallenge #fictionreads #booklover #bookstagrammer #netgalleyreads #netgalleyreview #netgalley

"My fellow Americans, I am pleased to tell you today that I've signed legislation that will outlaw Russia forever. We begin bombing in five minutes." 18. All about the Arms Race between America and the USSR and the politics surrounding it during the closing years of the Cold War. And talks about the Soviets biological weapons research that the Russians may have carried on after the fall of the Soviet Union. ____________ Really not a page turner, 500 pages of the smallest font I've ever seen. 🍉 May Reading Challenge 🍉 My personal challenge for May is to read as many books as I can. I don’t have a set number but for each book I finish, I will donate $5 to Amr (@amr_tahrawi6) and his family. You can find his link in my b!o if you want to know more. How can you help? 🍉 Share this, comment, help spread the word 🍉 Pledge $ per book I read and donate that amount. It can be $5 per book or whatever you can afford 🍉 Pledge a set amount per book YOU read and do this challenge with me 🍉 Simply give what you can now and help this family get to safety. I know that it’s hard to give a lot, but if more people would just donate a tiny bit, we can make a big difference! I’m doing what I can but I need your help. ❤️ Do you have any set reading goals for May? #mayreadingchallenge #readingchallenge #mayreadinggoals #readinggoals #bookishgoals #springreading #readwithme

This was one of the easiest books I have read this year. I finished it in 3 days, while I was travelling in trains, buses and tubes in London. ~ One of my favourite things about the book was that the protagonist’s favourite writer is also Emily Brontë, and when she visits the Brontë Parosnage Museum, I knew exactly what she was looking at, the cobblestones she was walking on, the only bit I did not have to imagine! ~ It’s a lovely read about 3 people coming into their own and finding their true, independent personalities. I am a lil disappointed with the ending though, but I guess with breezy books like these, that was the best ending. ~ On to my next magical realism read! 💚 #bookstagram #booksbooksbooks #bookworm #booknerd #thelostbookshop #eviewoods #eviewoodaauthor #eviewoodsthelostbookshop #aprilbotm #botm #readingchallenge #readmorebooks #readersgonnaread

Books 10-13 for 2024! I’ve managed to get through quite a few books the last 2 weeks, and what a variety it has been. Suspense, light hearted young adult, true story and political thriller. It likely isn’t a surprise that my favorite of the 4 was Peril by Bob Woodward and Robert Costa. It had been in my TBR and when I saw it in our condo for the weekend I made it a goal to finish it. @realbobwoodward has written some of my favorite political books and this is no exception, especially as we are quickly heading into what I’m sure will be a brutal election season. I have several more of his books on my TBR to hopefully read this year and now that I’ve read Peril, others (Rage and Fear) have moved towards the top of the list! #readersofinstagram #booksofinstagram #readingchallenge #2024readingchallenge #reading #bobwoodward

INDIE BOOKSTORE DAY 2024 🩵🤞🏻📚✨ yesterday was pretty much a national holiday! i am so so fortunate to have gotten to stop at two of my favorite indies in Denver to pick up five (broke my buying ban 🙈) books off my tbr. my dad was in for my school’s parents weekend so we took a trip around town to grab some books and @shopsmall !! 🛍️ as grateful as i am to have taken advantage of deals and supported my local indies, it felt especially important in the midst of book bans, information bans, and bans against the LGBTQ+ community. 🏳️‍🌈 if books didn’t matter, no one would try to ban them. i will continue to shop local, support my community, educate myself, and speak out when necessary. none of us are free until all of us are free, and this day really reminded me of this. 🍉 missing my indies at home but had such a lovely day nonetheless. books will never not be so special (AND SO VITAL) to me. 🩷 purchased: Martyr by @kavehakbar.kavehakbar Sex With A Brain Injury by @aliontas Boys of Alabama by @gkhudson Lie With Me by @philippebessonauteur Dogs of Summer by Andrea Abreu Glitch Feminism by @ellerustle q: what is your go-to indie bookstore?? why do you love them? #bookstagram #indiebookstore #indiebookstoreday #localbookstore #buylocal #ririsreads #bookhaul #denvercolorado #shopsmall #tatteredcoverbookstore #petalsandpagesdenver #lgbtqbooks #diversespines #readingchallenge #tbr #bookban #ireadbannedbooks

⭐⭐⭐ - review This short story from Grady Hendrix started off promising and is a spin on the boogeyman under your bed. Unfortunately the ending was very abrupt in my opinion, which I think is the result of the story being only 30 pages long. Margo is a 19 year old college student who becomes pregnant after an affair with her professor. She has to try to figure out what to do when she has the baby, and how to come up with enough money to survive. She ends up living with her absentee father, roommate, and child. She also turns to OnlyFans to generate income. I really enjoyed this book and it is one of the most interesting books I’ve ever read. It’s told in first and third person and switches consistently, but it never detracts from the story. In fact, it makes it so much better, because you start to see the parts Margo chooses to tell in first versus third person. Margo really was dealt a pretty crummy hand, but she always finds her way through. I loved her relationship with Suzie and Jinx. I loved watching her grow and come into her own, especially with confidence. And her relationship with JB, growing from small messages to much more. Not only that, but the book was genuinely funny. The Pokémon puns were hilarious. Jinx said some off the wall things that cracked me up in hindsight. There was a lot of heart packed into these pages. A couple of favorite quotes: “When you fall in love with a book, is it the character or the author you’re falling in love with?” “People are all so lonely. Even when they do horrible things, it often comes down to that, if only you take the time to understand them.” “Because that’s all art is, in the end. One person trying to get another person they have never met to fall in love with them.” Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review. #books #reading #booklife #fictionbooks #contemporaryfiction #readingisfun #bookstagram #bookvibes #readingchallenge #margosgotmoneytroubles #rufithorpe #booklover #bookstagrammer #netgalleyreads #netgalleyreview #netgalley

What are your favourite romance tropes? 💕✨ I’ve just finished Compass Points by Jillian Witt (aka @mythandmagicbookclub ) and it has a few of my favourites: fake dating, friends to lovers and the classic, “oh no looks like we have to share one bed” 🤷🏻‍♀️😂 This book also has a really cool elemental magic system with a shifter bff/guardian and a FMC who is strong and powerful but unafraid to face the intense emotions that come with her difficult past. I LOVED the romance between the main characters, it was so sweet (with a lil bit of spice 🌶️) The author was kind enough to gift me an audiobook and I’ve been listening to it mainly at the gym, which has made exercising way more fun! 🏃🏻‍♀️The narrator did a fab job with the character voices and nuances, it was a real treat! Thanks so much @mythandmagicbookclub for the chance to experience the first book in the Compass Points series! 🧭📖 #bookdragon #bookish #bookishpic #bookishpost #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #booknerd #booklove #reading #books #readingchallenge #whatimreading #challenge #fantasybooks #fantasyfiction #audiobook #compasspointsbook #bookreview #bookreviewer #audible #romancebooks #romancebookwormforlife

"The Murmur Of Bees" by Sofía Segovia 3⭐ Mexico 🇲🇽 From the day that old Nana Reja found a baby abandoned under a bridge, the life of a small Mexican town forever changed. Disfigured and covered in a blanket of bees, little Simonopio is for some locals the stuff of superstition, a child kissed by the devil. But he is welcomed by landowners Francisco and Beatriz Morales, who adopt him and care for him as if he were their own. As he grows up, Simonopio becomes a cause for wonder to the Morales family, because when the uncannily gifted child closes his eyes, he can see what no one else can—visions of all that’s yet to come, both beautiful and dangerous. Followed by his protective swarm of bees and living to deliver his adoptive family from threats—both human and those of nature—Simonopio’s purpose in Linares will, in time, be divined. Set against the backdrop of the Mexican Revolution and the devastating influenza of 1918, The Murmur of Bees captures both the fate of a country in flux and the destiny of one family that has put their love, faith, and future in the unbelievable. ✨🤓📘📖📚✨ 📚 30/110 books read from 2024 reading challenge 📚 26/196 countries visited from around the world reading challenge 🌍

#jeroenwindmeijer #deoffers #christendom #bolivia #uiteigenkast #2024 #readingchallenge

no summit out of sight by Jordan Romero 🏔️ I liked this book, a lot. It is different from other types of books that I have read. I am very unfamiliar with the realities and challenges of climbing mountains. His life is completely different from my own, and I think that is a good thing. I loved Jordan, he is such a courageous, hard working, and inspiring person. It feels like a very young type read, it is told by a teenager. I think that is a good thing, he is relatable even though he’s out on Everest and I’m struggling to climb the neighborhood hill. Overall I think this is a very interesting and unique book that everyone should try! 🏷️tags: #bookrecomendations #bookstagram #books #bookreviews #booklover #bookreels #booktok #viral #foryou #romancebooks #bookish #bookthings #smallbookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookaddict #booksta #readingchallenge #currentlyreading

Abandoned at p. 55. I don’t even know how I made it that far … Sam Wasson’s florid, bootlicking profile of Francis Ford Coppola’s making of “Apocalypse Now” and “One From the Heart” examines how Coppola’s filmmaking style bankrupted his dream of running a studio, Zoetrope. Here’s the deal, yo. FFC *did* run his own company. It failed — not because he’s supposedly a genius, but because he is a profligate, insufferable artiste who drove himself into the ground. Yes, he won five Oscars. Yes, he’s involved with several of the biggest and best films of the 1970s … and clearly the ego his success created had bitter dividends. He’d go on to make several flops and disappointments, several simply for the money. Beyond the producers and studios who stopped writing blank checks based on his false promises, moviegoers eventually caught on to his grift, as well: “A Francis Ford Coppola Film” no longer held meaning. But hey, he’d always be able to coast on some of the fumes the first two “Godfather” films and “Apocalypse Now” would provide him. Wasson reneges his own glowing portrayal by demonstrating that FFC was filming “Apocalypse” without a completed script … that elaborate set pieces would be destroyed by typhoons or otherwise hampered by the Filipino government suddenly recalling helicopters the production was using. It’s maddening, it’s part of the process, it’s part of what you see on film … it’s also an accident beyond comprehension that “Apocalypse Now” is regarded — with merit — as a hypnotic masterpiece. There’s an interesting story *somewhere* about Coppola actually making his fortune in wine. So in the meantime, if you want to learn about Coppola in a less awestruck way, check out Peter Biskind’s “Easy Riders, Raging Bulls.” #dnf #movies #coppola #2024books #readinglist2024 #goodreads #amreading #books #bookaddict #booknerd #bookstagram #reading #readinglist #readingchallenge #bookworm #bookblogger #bookreviews

|| Buda na podstrešju || . . by Julie Otsuka . . . . Ko prispejo tja, so razočarane nad bodočimi soprogi. Boek nummer 9 van dit jaar: It ends with us van Colleen Hoover. 5⭐️ #books #booktok #bookstagram #booklovers #boekstagramnl #bookstagramnl #lezen #boekstagram #boekentips #leesliefhebber #leestip #boeken #bookaddict #bobo #koboplus #koboplustips #readingchallenge #lovetoread #readingtime #bookloversofinstagram #booksbooksbooks #whatimreading #hebbanreadingchallenge #hebban

I need to get better at my #whatthisweek I just forget to take photos 🤣 I had a really nice week this week🫶🏽 I was busy at work, finished reading the knockemout series, finally got around to redoing my nails after putting it off, cleaned my makeup brushes which is one of those jobs I never want to do but am so happy afterwards🤣, had a takeaway & went to the cinema with my boyfriend to watch challengers (wasn’t a fan unfortunately) and was forced to watch arsenal today but we won so happy days🤣 📖 What I’m reading: I finished ‘Things we’ve left behind’ which I loved! Now completed the knockemout series and overall it was good the 3rd book was definately my favourite. 🎬 What I’ve been watching: Went back to finish scandal this week so I’m still watching that, started baby reindeer (so creepy) & went cinema to see the challengers which I actually didn’t enjoy unfortunately :// 🎧 What I’ve been listening to: No audio books this week, just listened to music tbh…

This was the fourth book in Darcy Coates' Gravekeeper series. With each progressive book we've been given more and more information about Kiera's past and the big bad that she was running from before she lost her memories. While the past three books were focused on smaller ghostly mysteries that needed solving, this one was much more centered on the major, underlying conflict. I've really enjoyed how the author has constructed the series. I'm a big fan of all of the characters and the different creepy settings that they have had to explore. This installment took us to an abandoned amusement park which they were only able to access with help from one of Zoe's conspiracy theorist pals known only as "Fish Face". While there is plenty of comic relief there is also a lot of action that gets your heart pounding. I've also been very impressed with Coates' creative mind and how's she's "designed" her ghosts. I'm sad that this is apparently the penultimate book but at least we got a little romance (Finally! Talk about a slow burn...). Kiera, Mason and Zoe (and Henry too I hope) have a lot of work cut out for them in the next book! #bookstagram #reader #bookreads #kindlereads #readingchallenge #whatimreading #horror #mystery #thehollowdead #darcycoates #paranormal #ghoststory #bookworm #booknerd #gravekeeperseries

Swipe through for a recap of Q1 and some goals in Q2 for a number of challenges I’m participating in. I figure that I’ll never 100% finish more than one, but that if I’m progressing through a number of diversity-related challenges, I’m bound to have a diverse reading year. Hitting 70-80% in all of these by the end of 2024 would be a dream. Are you participating in any of these? Let me know if there’s one I’m missing here that’s a must. I’m always down to add another! Happy Sunday everyone, I hope everyone has had a good weekend! ✨ This is a photo of books by women authors that I initially took for women’s history month back in March (oops). Because we went on holiday, I completely forgot to post this, so I decided to post it today! It’s always a good time to boost female authors, and this is just a selection of books on my shelves. I’ve only read No Big Deal and Exciting Times, which were both ok, so I’m looking forward to reading the others, especially Babel! Has anyone read any of these books; which ones would you recommend? ~Bree📖

#berem #knjiganadan #bralniizziv #bralnapotovanja #abecebralnica #dobreknjige #citatzaprebrat #radaberem #knjigoljubci #knjigoljubka #literatura #goodreads #books #readingchallenge #whatyouread

Book 32/75: Bride by Ali Hazelwood ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Late to read this because the wait on Libby was astronomical 🙃 every time I told someone this was my first Ali Hazelwood book, I was met with “oh my god it’s nothing like her other stuff!” I kinda really hope that’s the case but I was not in love with this 🥲I did like the romance between Misery and Lowe and how sweet Lowe was to her, even from the jump, without her realizing. I just wasn’t a fan of Misery’s internal dialogue or all the pop culture/real-life references throughout the entire book. Overall, this was okay for me, but I’m definitely willing to read her other books eventually!

In my writer’s era ✨ If you’re a writer, where do you find your inspiration? For me, it’s all about the little things - sounds, looks, smells, and moments that surround us 🩷 For example, I recently went for coffee with a friend, and there was a lady with a very specific yet warm and enjoyable laugh. I crafted an entire persona around that laugh ☀️ Another time, while on a bus, I overheard snippets of conversation from a girl sitting next to me on the phone. I used that to create a story about a side character and her friend 😊 Photo by my amazing friend @ribanarozacphotography 🌸 #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #writer #inmywritersera #writersofinstagram #writing #write #inspiration #booksbooksbooks #bookshelf #booklover #bookworm #booknerd #bookreviews #bookphotography #reading #readingtime #readinglist #tor #readings #readingcommunity #readingcorner #bookcommunity #readingchallenge #readinglife #bookishlife #bookish

⭐️4/5 A cute read. I think I would’ve like it more without the fake dating trope. It was clear through the storyline that both characters liked each other before hand. It would have been nice to watch their relationship grow more naturally because it definitely could have. To me, the fake dating trope works better when the characters realize their feelings after they already started fake dating. But that’s just me. I liked the epigraphs that began most of the chapters and that they came from comedians. I also liked Hazel, even though she definitely had a no-way-this-ten-year-old-just-spouted-that-much-wisdom moment. 📚24/52 #funnyfeelings #tarahdewitt #readingchallenge #2024books

Hooked by Emily McIntire ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Surprisingly, not bad. Wasn’t expecting the smut in this one but was hit with it only a couple chapters in 😅 I was a little worried about how I’d feel about Hook’s character development because he was giving me Theseus vibes (Scarlet St. Clair, iykyk). I ended up liking him though, and his relationship build out with Wendy. I also was not expecting the story to wrap up in this book as I didn’t realize the rest of the series followed different characters/fairytales. Let’s see how the other books play out! Side note: When you get the series for free on Audible, buying the physical books “doesn’t count”. ⭐️3.5/5 I wanted to read this one ahead of the movie. I liked it for what it was. I had to try really hard to not remember it was a Harry Styles fanfic. And I had to try really hard not to remember that Hayes is only 20. Don’t get me wrong — I love a good age gap, but I need the younger one to at least be of the legal drinking age. I did appreciate the commentary on how women are perceived as they get older. And the ending crushed me. I couldn’t believe that was it. 📚23/52 #theideaofyou #robinnelee #readingchallenge #2024books

Spring Break Reads The Seven Year Slip ⭐️5/5 I loved this book. I thought it was so well written, especially in how it dealt with Clementine’s grief and processing. I loved the character development with both Clementine and Iwan, romantically and career-ily. And the secret tattoo was delightful. Also, I would love to see this book turned into a movie. If only to learn how to correctly say Iwan. 📚20/52 The Right Move (reread) ⭐️5/5 March Madness put me in the mood for a classic. I’ll always love Ryan and Indy. 📚21/52 One True Loves ⭐️5/5 I think Taylor Jenkins Reid is my favorite author. I have yet to read a book by her that I didn’t absolutely love. This book was no exception. Each love story was so sweet. I couldn’t figure out who I wanted her to end up with for so long. I was really happy with how it all turned out in the end though. Emma’s grief and growth were both so well written. She went through so much and came so far. I know she’s only a book character but dang, she’s a strong one. 📚22/52 #thesevenyearslip #ashleyposton #therightmove #liztomforde #onetrueloves #taylorjenkinsreid #readingchallenge #2024books

Binding 13 ⭐️3/5 I read somewhere that this book is one you either love or you don’t, and I think I was the latter. I didn’t feel like there was much of a plot, and there were too many cringe worthy moments. I tried to read Keeping 13 after, but I had to DNF. 📚18/52 Blitz ⭐️3/5 Cute book. Book 37 -- I don't know what it says about me that I enjoy serial killer books so much, but it is my cup of tea. This was cleverly done and I appreciated the writers wit (and use of random idioms). It was such a a fun read!-- A comic thriller following the trials and tribulations of Claire, a part-time serial killer, who is keen to keep her favorite hobby a secret—despite the efforts of a determined blackmailer The night after her father's funeral, Claire meets Lucas in a bar. Lucas doesn't know it, but it's not a chance meeting. One thoughtless mistyped email has put him in the crosshairs of an extremely put-out serial killer. But before they make eye contact, before Claire lets him buy her a drink—even before she takes him home and carves him up into little pieces—something about that night is very wrong. Because someone is watching Claire. Someone who is about to discover her murderous little hobby. The thing is, it's not sensible to tangle with a part-time serial killer, even one who is distracted by attending a weekly bereavement support group and trying to get her art career off the ground. Will Claire finish off her blackmailer before her pursuer reveals all? Let the games begin . . . -- #girlswhoread #books #book #bookish #booknerd #bookworm #bookworms #booksofinstagram #bookstagram #Bibliophile #reading #reader #read #readersofinstagram #booklover #bookphotography #bookreviewer #bookcommunity #booklife #currentlyreading #reading #booklover #independentbookstores #booksof2024 #writer #grreadingchallenge #readingchallenge
