Itโs Thirsty Thursday and I am finally getting my thoughts together about this @barrellbourbon 5 year Foundation Bourbon. I took about 8,000 photos for this post and the cutest one (IMO) ended up being blurry. So hereโs the second best. Scroll for my favorite photo, plus some other things I tried, and some silly faces I made to get myself to smile authentically. ๐๐คช Which one is your favorite? ๐ธ Anyway, on to the bourbon! Iโve had this bottle for a minute now, and I needed to visit it a couple of times to really experience all it has to offer. Letโs dive in. On the nose it is fruity and bright, with predominant notes of cherry syrup, citrus, powdered sugar, and oak. Further exploration reveals additional fruits (green apple and grape) vanilla, sweet cream, butterscotch, buttery flaky pastry, and spices (nutmeg, sweet cinnamon, and white pepper). On the palate most of the notes from the nose carry through. I get pops of cherry, grape bubble gum, green apple, powdered sugar, oak, baking spices (heavy on the nutmeg), and vanilla. The finish is sweet cream, with a little zap of pepper and a tiny hint of banana salt water taffy. The green apple, powdered sugar, oak, and pepper linger. There is a little heat in the finish but not much. Overall, this is a complex and delicious pour, proving once again that Barrell really knows what they are doing. This is a great addition to the heavy hitter sub $60 whiskey category. And a great choice for those that donโt love a super high-proof pour (this baby comes in at 100 proof). I will definitely be going back for more. Of note: this was a little drying and tannic to me on the first pour, but that disappeared with subsequent pours. Have you had this one yet?
