🇦🇷YACUTINGA 🇬🇧BLACK-FRONTED PIPING-GUAN (Pipile jacutinga) -------------------- Fue descrita por Spix en 1825. Tiene una longitud de 78 cm, el ala plegada mide aprox. 31cm y la cola, que es bastante larga en comparación a su tamaño, varía de los 26 a 29cm. Se encuentra presente en selvas marginales, siempre en los bordes de arroyos y ríos. Baja al suelo en la cercanía de los "lambaderos" donde picotea el barro salitroso que allí aflora. Su presencia denota selvas en buen estado de conservación. Su distribución es muy limitada: Sudeste de Brasil 🇧🇷, este de Paraguay 🇵🇾, y el nordeste de de la Argentina 🇦🇷 en la Provincia de Misiones. Suele reunirse en grupos de entre 4 a 16 ejemplares. Efectúan desplazamientos estacionales para nidificar (mayo-junio). Depositan en el hueco central del nido 2 o 3 huevos. Los padres se turnan para incubarlos y los mismos eclosionarán a fines de noviembre. Es una especie clasificada en peligro, según la UICN. Era hasta unos años una especie habitual, pero fue víctima durante el siglo pasado de una persecución por su carne y destrucción del hábitat. The Birthday Couple (Jonathan 22nd April, Angie 27th April). We are blessed with a love of family and children, and a passion for wild places, photography and drawing. Our love reminds us of a passage in Sunset on the Manyatta by Kenyan author Kenneth Watene: “Have you ever wondered why it was that we felt so free with each other? I suppose......It would seem as if you were a spirit that originally belonged to the same realm with my spirit, and our meeting was the rejoining of a splintered one.” On Angie’s special day I wanted to reflect on words I wrote in 2016 for our autobiography The Big Cat Man: “Talented artist that she is, Angie also has that wonderful gift of making wherever she settles into a home, of being able to convert mere bricks and mortar - soulless entities in themselves - into a repository for a rich tapestry of quilts and cushions, carpets and sofas, photographs and paintings, a place that breathes life, warmth and love. Trinkets and keepsakes are scattered like seashells on the beach of life, reminding one of the wonder of this world and comfort of home.”
