The only plastic you use is on the filter that you replace every few months. 4) America is now using 33% of the world’s paper. This “paper” is primarily used for cardboard (shipping) boxes and containers. Do you really NEED the item shipped? Can you combine your purchase with a friend or neighbor who orders the same product? 5) Do you pour chemicals into sewers or onto your soil, where it can reach the water tables? 6) If you smoke, do you throw your butts on the ground? The grass conceals many treasures and, with a bit of luck , you may be rewarded with sightings of some of the more timid wildlife. Recently, a black backed jackal was encountered on a morning guided eco drive. It predates mostly on smaller creatures, such as birds and rodents, but will scavenge when it can. In this way it helps with the natural balance of life in ecosystems. Due to their small size and shy nature, they pose no harm to humans but are often prosecuted by farmers, trying to protect their livestock. There are several eco-friendly ways to mitigate such human-wildlife conflict. If farmers ensure they allow for good numbers of smaller, wild prey species to inhabit their farms, predators will have access to their natural food source, instead of focusing on livestock. Another method that has been successfully used is the introduction of antiolian sheep dogs. #EcoMonday - “Close encounters” At Thaba Eco Park, we do not provoke or disturb the wildlife. As a result, they may be relaxed in our company. During a short break on a guided eco drive, this handsome springbuck ram foraged peacefully just 15 metres from us. It's important to understand that, like humans, animals have their own personal space requirements. If you encroach on this, they will move away to maintain this distance. Our animals are not handfed and cannot be touched. This is to ensure that they maintain their sense of caution around people and do not become dangerous.
