This was a beautiful view.. 😍 but the drive up to it wasn’t easy. 🙈 Following the signs to Barley lake, I ploughed on up the road which turned into more of a dirt track and with not much opportunity to turn as it was narrow and needless to say, while I was taking these & was Googling to see where we where, my car tyres sank into the mud & would not budge! 😬 If I was back here I’d definitely do the hike on foot because the views are amazing but if like me you don’t enjoy first gear roads & really sharp corner bends going uphill, then leave the car and walk instead! 😂

Officially, the world's longest-defined coastal touring route, this spectacular 2.5km road trip, winds its way along the Western reaches of our Emerald Isle from County Cork to Donegal. The route connects intrepid travellers with spectacular coastal landscapes & so many treats along the way from microbreweries to artisan cheesemakers & the freshest of seafood. Someone in Glengarrif asked me if they could use my photo for a school calendar so I ended up looking at the original files and doing some fresh editing. 🇨🇭 Heute Morgen fahren wir zum Sheep's Head und laufen vom Parkplatz zum Leuchtturm. Leider sind Hunde auf dem Weg nicht erlaubt und so müssen Gypsie und Mia leider 'zu Hause' 🚐 warten. ☹️ Nach einem kurzen Stopp in Bantry geht es weiter nach Glengarriff. Hier sehen wir uns den kleinen Hafen und den Blue Pool, einen im Wald versteckten Gezeitenhafen, an. 🚣♂️ Danach machen wir uns auf den Weg nach Castletownbere und besichtigen den grossen und geschäftigen Fischereihafen. ⚓️ Schliesslich erreichen wir den äussersten Zipfel der Beara-Halbinsel, von wo aus Irlands einzige Seilbahn zur 230 m entfernten Insel Dursey fährt. ⛰️ Da es aber inzwischen in Strömen regnet, verzichten wir auf eine Gondelfahrt. 🚡 Nach einem Halt in Allihies fahren wir weiter an der Küste entlang, vorbei an Eyeries und Ardgroom nach Lauragh. 🏘 Hier nehmen wir die Healy-Passstrasse, die uns bis auf 296 m Höhe führt. Nach der Passhöhe finden wir einen wunderbaren Platz zum Übernachten direkt an einem Bach. 🏞 🇬🇧 This morning we drive to Sheep's Head and walk from the parking lot to the lighthouse. Unfortunately, dogs are not allowed on the path and so Gypsie and Mia have to wait 'at home' 🚐. ☹️ After a short stop in Bantry, we continue on to Glengarriff. Here we take a look at the small harbor and the Blue Pool, a tidal harbor hidden in the forest. 🚣♂️ We then make our way to Castletownbere and we visit the large and busy fishing port. ⚓️ Finally, we reach the very tip of the Beara Peninsula, from where Ireland's only cable car runs to Dursey Island, 230 m away. ⛰️ However, as it is now pouring with rain, we decide not to take a gondola ride. 🚡 After a stop in Allihies, we continue along the coast past Eyeries and Ardgroom to Lauragh. 🏘 Here we take the Healy Pass road, which takes us up to an altitude of 296 meters. Did you enjoy any Green Sketching over the last few days? The weather was so lovely here in West Cork that we ventured to Glengarriff, to Garinish Island and Zetland Pier, two of my favourite places. Swipe left to see. There was no sign of the White-tailed Sea Eagles, but I did hear my first Willow Warbler of the year, and saw lots of seals lying out on the rocks. It was wonderful to stand in the sunshine and doodle a little view of Whiddy Island through the trees.
