Offline Charlotte took me to Vortex Bottle Shop located in Harrisburg. I tried the Buffalo Vortex Wings. They do not fry anything. The wings were oven roasted and the were really good. Nice crispy skin and a robust buffalo flavor. I would definitely order wings from here again. I also tried the Blackened Shrimp and Artichoke Dip. It came with toasted slices of crostini. The flavor was boosted by roasted garlic and Parmesan cheese. I really enjoyed this dish. So Vortex Bottle shop has a variety of wines and beers that you can try. The tri-tip was slow roasted and seasoned with a peppered BBQ sauce, medium cooked of course. The ribs were pull apart done and also slathered with the peppered BBQ sauce. Although it was a little bland in taste, the spicy hoisin sauce peeled that baby right out. The Brisket had a sweet brown sugar taste to it. I mixed the pickled red onions with the brisket and the flavor really popped. I didn't really care too much for the House chips. Think of salt and vinegar chips that have been kettle cooked. For years, I've been passing by this restaurant, and at last, I made the decision to step inside. The Mashed Potatoes, bathed in a delectable golden gravy, were an exquisite treat. The potatoes were luxuriously thick, and the gravy was simply divine. The Potato Wedges evoked a wonderful sense of nostalgia, reminiscent of the wedges I used to savor from that beloved country corner store back home. Finally made it to this establishment. Two pieces of fried chicken along with mashed potatoes and gravy and yams. The Mashed Potatoes and Gravy were so creamy that my fork easily sliced right through them, and the gravy boosted the flavor of the dish. I really loved the fact that the yams weren't drenched in thick brown sugar syrup. It was just enough butter and brown sugar to bring out the natural taste of a yam. The main dish of course was the fried chicken. The first bit sunk my teeth into a crispy layer of skin, then the juicy meat. Each chew released the seasoning that was cooked into the thigh and leg. I actually liked these considering how I don't like Philly cheese steals and mustard. The egg roll crust provides a crispy crunch, while the cheese mixture kept the egg roll from drying out while frying. CHEF’S DAILY SOUP The Clam chowder soup was delicious. The only thing that I recommend is that they don't put so many scallions in the dish. It made the soup crunchy. FILET & SHRIMP My main dish consisted of a Bacon-wrapped steak tenderloin, topped with shrimp basted in Key lime butter, and a side of potatoes au gratin. Now.... I should have asked but I wasn't thinking about the potato dish being made with Cheddar cheese. Not a fan of Cheddar cheese. I ended up giving this dish away. My fault. I ordered my steak fillet medium. The steak was juicy and tender and didn't need any type of sauce. The bacon that was wrapped around it could have been cooked a little bit longer for me. When you think of corn nuggets, think of corn mixed with corn bread. The corn nuggets had a sweet taste to it. That first bite was a small piece of crunchiness heaven in my mouth. And the cornbread batter that was used was not dry at all. Brisket Easy to pull apart with your fingers, which means it's cooked right. After a 2-hour dance recital..... It was time for some grub. Our stomachs landed us at tequila's tacos and bar. I switched it up this time. If there is one thing Pigeon Forge has a lot of its pancake restaurants. On the corner, down the street, up the road, pancakes, pancakes, pancakes. Reagan's House of pancakes was a great start to the day. Fresh fluffy scrambled eggs, served with a side of creamy buttery grits with crispy bacon and sausage links. Mama's farmhouse is a restaurant that I would return to. The menu was an all you can eat family style. For those of you who don't know what that means.......short version...... pick the meat and sides you want for the entire table. Order more if you run out. Our table tried their famous fried chicken, the ham, and of course chicken tenders for the kiddies. We had macaroni and cheese, corn on the cob, and chicken and dumplings for the sides. Overall, I really liked the fried chicken. Besides needing a pinch of salt, I love the crispiness of the skin and the moistness of the meat. I didn't like the corn on the cob. Whatever batter they dipped or cooked in, didn't taste good to me. The only side I tried was a chicken and dumpling. It could use a little more chicken. I had to take care of some business in Asheville, NC. I ordered two fried eggs, bacon, grits, chicken and of course a biscuit. Overall the food was good. The chicken can use some work. It was fried with some type of batter but did not have any flavor to it..... At all. Of course bacon is bacon. The grits came to life with a sprinkle of salt and dash of pepper. My eggs were fried hard, just like I like them. And for the main attraction..... The biscuit. I took the liberty of slathering their berry jam on top of the biscuit. Mic's Mini Market is a great gem that you can find located outside of Ken's Superette in Gastonia, NC. The food is made to order so to become upset if your food takes more than 20 minutes. I ordered hot lemon pepper fish with baked beans and a side of fries. The fish was fresh out the fryer and served country style, which means on a piece of bread. The hot lemon pepper flavor could have been a little more spicier but the fish was still really good. The baked beans were also good. It tasted like chilli pepper was added to the beans. Brisket The brisket was good and even better when I added some sauces to it. Baked beans I could taste the brown sugar in the beans (not how I like them) but they were still good. The only cons I will post is I didn't like the fact that the asparagus was served from the cold bar. I mean .......who likes cold asparagus. We were charged $30 at the door by security for a table. I thought that was odd because I have never paid. When I asked the workers there about the fee, they skated around the question. OMG this food was good. I ordered the ITALIAN "OSCAR" FILET....... Which is an 8 oz. barrel-cut filet, topped with jumbo lump crab, with asparagus, and taleggio cream (think of milky cheese). Now I asked for the cream on the side.....in case I didn't like it. I actually enjoyed the cream. I ordered my steak medium-well. The cut was tender and well seasoned, even before I added the taleggio cream. The lumb crab on top was cooked to perfection. It wasn't over cooked nor chewy (like some other restaurant that I won't list) The asparagus was soft.....which I like. I can't stand crunchy asparagus. Restaurant: Cyren Bar Grill & Seafood I will never..... ever.... order anything barbecue related in Australia again. As I was walking around Darling Harbor.... I saw a couple of barbecue themed restaurants that had signs saying award-winning ribs. I ordered a full rack of ribs. To my surprise when my order arrived, they were humongous. I ended up sharing at least half of them with my party. From the very first bite of the BBQ ribs I took, my taste buds and stomach was highly disappointed. The meat tasted old and the sauce was disgusting. You could tell the meat wasn't seasoned. I should have sent it back and ordered something else, but I decided to eat it. Flash forward 4 hours.... Biggest mistake of MY life!! Which I also love. Juicy flavor with every bite. Plantains Finally, somebody that knows how to cook plantains that's not soaked in sugary sauces but still has that Nice sweet taste. Collard greens I'm hesitant to buy collard greens at restaurants because they always taste like they're straight out of the can and watered down. The collard greens were pretty good. I've been in Charlotte since about 2002 and have never eaten at South 21. I decided to stop in for lunch one day last week. From all the good things I've heard.... I was not impressed at all. The fries To me, they were standard French fries with maybe a sprinkle of salt. Crispy. That's about it. The chicken I expected the chicken to be much better than what I received. To me it tastes like they took the chicken, rolled it around in flour, and then tossed it in the grease. There was not one speckle of seasoning on the chicken. The breading was very hard and thick. The plus side about the food was everything seemed to be cooked to order. I say it was cooked to order because there were maybe two customers in front of me and I waited about 40 minutes for my food. It was hot and fresh but no flavor whatsoever. I was highly disappointed. I feel as if they need to redeem themselves so I may give them a second try.
