Aside from big blockbusters, horror makes for fantastic viewing in the cinema. The tension when you’re able to be locked into a good horror with a fantastic screen and sound around you, with an audience also along for the journey. Tarot follows a group of young adults that go away for a weekend to a house in the country side, and when they explore, they come across some Tarot cards. It happens that one of the group, Haley (Harriet Slater), can read them and proceeds to do readings for the whole group. After that, the group is being killed one by one, but can they prevent the curse before it kills them all? Directors Spenser Cohen and Anna Halberg have very limited directing experience; Cohen has a couple more credits to his name having worked with Halberg on a podcast series, Tarot being Halberg’s first film. Cohen’s credits primarily come from his writing background, with his most notable projects being Moonfall and The Expendables 4, which are honestly two of the poorest written films I’ve seen in the last few years. I’d say Tarot is a better film from a dialogue point of view, at least, but the general story is very generic, but that could be down to it being based on a book by Nicholas Adams. The directing isn’t particularly strong and is definitely a downmark against the film. The film very much could’ve played like a Final Destination, where it has you on the edge of your seat, not knowing where this impending death is going to come from, but ends up being closer to Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark (not a bad film), where it isn’t particularly scary at all and feels like a light horror (perhaps explaining why it even managed to get a PG-13 rating in America). Not because it’s bad but because it’s very average. It reeks studio demands and rewrites (three writing teams are named in the production notes; who knows how many others were involved) and compromise. It’s safe and middle of the road. It feels like a prelude to an Avengers movie which is not appropriate for the third most recognizable superhero in the world. It’s fine but not thrilling or exciting or fun or emotional in the way other Spider Flicks have been up to that point. I honestly would watch SM3 over this. The only real saving grace for this movie is Tom Holland. He’s cute and charming and very watchable. He makes it worth watching. #alfieseesmovies

Noch ahnen sie nicht, dass es dich dabei um die uralten verfluchten Karten einer dunklen Magierin handelt. Einer nach dem dem anderen, wird plötzlich von den vorhersagen verfolgt und auf grausame Weise ermordet. Es beginnt ein Wettlauf gegen den Tod, der ihnen stets einen Schritt voraus ist. Ein Szenario wie aus dem Horror-Bilderbuch: Eine Gruppe junger Studenten beschwört durch ein Ritual unwissentlich das wahre Böse herauf und muss mit den bitteren Konsequenzen leben. Genau hier reiht sich auch der von Spenser Cohen & Anna Halberg inszenierte Film ,,Tarot - Tödliche Prophezeiung" ein, der sich als ein Mix zwischen ,,Final Destination" und ,,Quija" offenbart. Das Ergebnis ist ein konstruierter und vorhersehbarer Horrorfilm, der brav alle Stationen bis zum Finale abhakt, ohne auf Logik zu achten. Dabei bedient er noch sämtliche Klischees, wie die alte Frau, die bereits über alles Bescheid zu wissen scheint, Jugendliche die in jede erdenkliche Falle tappen und Situationen, die man besser nicht hinterfragen sollte. Dennoch sind es vor allem die Horror-Elemente, welche ,,Tatort" zu einem unterhaltsamen Vergnügen machen können. Jede Menge hochwertige Monster-Designs, einige gelungene Jump-Scares und durchaus kreative Kills sorgen für einen bleibenden Eindruck. Sometimes, Do not trust a few people's meter, but look at the numbers. At least, in general it gets like 50% or at least a solid 5 out of 10. But from my personal view, I am personally like it. The plot maybe not as good( but not trash) but, the horror element was not bad. It has all the thrill, suspense and plus also got myself fluttering (a bit). The jumpscare was good too and there was many of it. There was stupidity but the level was not that high either. So? I know some or many might not agree with me but, come on a 2? Really. WIESO ASTRO-TV ABGESETZT WURDE Eine Gruppe von Studenten geht der Alkohol aus, weil man nicht weiss was man außer saufen sonst machen kann, spielen sie mit einem alten Tarot Deck. Nach dem allen das Horoskop gelegt wurde, kommt es bei ihrer Rückkehr zu einem tödlichen Unfall nach dem anderen. Schnell müssen sie herausfinden wie sie an das Herz der Karten kommen. Tarot - Tödliche Prophezeiung geht ca. 92 Minuten und ist ab 16 Jahren freigegeben, wieso weiss ich nicht da alles so dunkel und verwackelt ist, das man es auch ab 12 hätte freigegeben können. Wir haben hier eine Horror-Komödie mit unter anderem Jacob Batalon (Spiderman) in der Hauptrolle, in dem Studenten sich kreischend vor Lichtern erschrecken. Die ersten ca. 15 Minuten sind das beste, denn die Truppe ist recht komisch, vorallem Batalon rettet hier sehr viel. Das legen der Karten und was man so über sein Horoskop erfährt ist ebenfalls, in Ansätzen, interessant. Leider vergisst der Streifen den Horror Aspekt, von den Jumpscares sitzt keiner, Spannung ist nie vorhanden und die Wesen aus den Tarot Karten sieht man nur verwackelt. Die Obermuffti Chefin sieht aus wie eine unreife Kiwi, außerdem bräuchte sie mal dringend ein Bonbon für den Hals, mehr als heiser herum zu kreischen macht sie nicht. Der Schnitt ist eine Katastrophe, die Kills nicht erwähnenswert und das Finale, Uff. Ist ja nett das die Obermuffti das Licht ausmacht wenn sie sich in eines der Wesen umzieht, aber neben dem ständigen Teleportiern und das magische "jemanden zu greifen ohne zu berühren" ist sie halt ein wandelndes Klischee. Crítica a 'Tarot' (Tarot De La Muerte)!!! (SIN SPOILERS) 🃏 En realidad estoy sorprendido, y como conozco a mi audiencia, se que a muchos de ustedes les pasará lo mismo. No esperaba mucho realmente cuando entré a la sala y salí convencido, un par de cosas flojas y de ese tipo de películas super predecibles donde ya sabes exactamente que va a pasar, pero generalmente una buena película de terror. Con aires de slasher de los 90's, este thriller de terror mezcla buenos personajes, buen cast, buenas actuaciones, buenas escenas de muerte y elementos que hemos visto en otras películas de gran éxito como 'Final Destination' o 'The Conjuring'. De hecho 'Tarot' mantiene una vibra siniestra de inicio a fin, pese a las bromas casi siempre realizadas por el personaje de Paxton (Jacob Batalon), el cuál desde el inicio supe que haría lo mismo que hace en las películas de 'Spider Man' y a los famosos jumpscares que no faltarán aquí. La película sale bien librada, es entretenida hasta el final, aunque como la mayoría de los casos, pierde fuerza en el final. La idea de mezclar demonios diferentes con el horóscopo y carta de cada personaje nos da un buffet de nuevos íconos del terror que apreciaremos totalmente, algunas de las escenas realmente son retorcidas y oscuras. Pasarás un buen rato. Tarot (gezien bij @pathenederland ) Een groep studievrienden tracht hun toekomst te achterhalen met behulp van tarotkaarten. Tijdens de lezing overtreden ze op roekeloze wijze een belangrijke regel: gebruik nooit de kaarten van een ander. Hierdoor ontketenen ze onbewust een onuitsprekelijk kwaad dat in de vervloekte kaarten opgesloten zit. De vrienden komen een voor een in oog te staan met het lot en belanden in een race tegen de dood om te ontsnappen aan de toekomst die in hun lezingen is voorspeld. Horrorfilms hebben de laatste tijd iets gemeen met elkaar. Bijna elke uitgebrachte horrorfilm begon als korte film op YouTube. Zodra zo'n korte film genoeg reviews krijgt gooien productiebedrijven de deuren open voor de bedenkers. Helaas is niet elk kort verhaal gemaakt voor een film van circa negentig minuten. In 'Tarot' moet alles duidelijk vlug, vlug en nog eens vlug. Na een lachwekkend introductie (als je het al zo mag noemen) vallen de studenten één voor één in rap tempo. Bij sommige is er geen eens tijd om te rouwen. Ook de poging tot scare jumbs slaan nooit echt aan. Naast dat er in het verhaal meer tijd gestoken had kunnen worden, had dit ook echt gekund bij de audities. Stuk voor stuk vallen de hoofdrolspelers gigantisch door de mand en zetten ze een karakter neer waarbij je bijna blij bent dat ze uit beeld zijn. Jacob Batalon (die we kennen als Ned uit 'Spider-Man) spant de kroon. Zijn performance is tenenkrommend slecht en heeft een gigantische irritante gehalte. Beoordeling ★☆☆☆☆ Conclusie? Antes que nada quiero emplazaros a leer las reseñas de @elrinconcinefilodeyago y @decinevaeltema . Dos buenos amigos que han tenido la suerte de asistir a un evento muy bien montado con ocasión del estreno de la cinta en cuestión y que me han dado mucha envidia sana. Por otro lado, dedicar la reseña a otra gran persona de Instagram, Aurélie y su perfil @astrorelybarcelona Simpatía por los cuatro costados. Y sin más dilatación por mis partes, entramos al trapo de lo que es el film. La historia, obra de sus cineastas, es más básica que la apertura de un tetrabrik de leche. Son muertes anunciadas desde un inicio. Tal como sucede en Destino Final (al cual se la cita cual guiño oculto entre líneas). Solo que lo original de esto es el uso del tarot para describir las muertes de los personajes que sobran. Lo bueno es que al ser un fantasmagórico slasher de chavales en época universitaria, se agradece que no te den la tunda con sus relaciones y su pasado y entren al trapo rápidamente. Saben perfectamente que no vas a empatizar con ellos así que para que molestarse. Pensaba que iba a ser una burda copia de Háblame pero es diferente. Lo que si veo un fallo que las primeras muertes se puedan adjudicar a un trágico accidente pero a mitad de peli se olvidan de eso y es simplemente una criatura demoníaca matando porque sí. Hablando de ellas, destaca que cada muerte tiene una bestia sanguinaria que lo ejecuta. Por lo que se hace interesante el diseño de éstas. Está muy bien trabajado. El de la carta que representa el loco y el del ermitaño son pura fantasía. Hay toda una generación de jóvenes actores para el género de terror y se agradece de ver caras nuevas, siendo el rostro más conocido el de Jacob Batalon al que conocemos por ser "el amigo de la silla" del último Spiderman. Luego tenemos a las marcas blancas de Olivia Munn y de Sadie Sank. Actrices que se parecen mucho pero que luego ves que no. You already know Jason Blum is out there somewhere kicking himself for not obtaining the rights to make a cheap horror movie off of tarot cards. Either way this still feels like one of the shamelessly formulaic productions Blumhouse would have put out. For roughly the first 15 minutes of this movie I kept expecting it to cut away as a fourth-wall break as another movie the characters in the actual movie were watching. The dialogue for the teenage friend group felt like the first draft of a student short film script. I wholeheartedly believed it had to be a parody of common horror tropes before I finally settled into the reality that this was what the film expected the viewer to be taking seriously. Aside from Jacob Batalon being a comedic relief, there is no proper characterization for any of the protagonists. None of the cast members are particularly bad, but it’s clear they had zero to work with off the script. On top of that, the stylistic approach is entirely inconsistent. This film tries to maintain a dark & eerie atmosphere but occasionally attempts to incorporate quirky humor & a modern soundtrack that completely contradict the tone. There are but two sequences that I genuinely enjoyed while the remainder of the film just left me bored & checking my watch. I truthfully think this is a production that was simply destined to fail. The concept is a decent enough idea & some of the creature designs are interesting, but as a whole this made little effort to build up its premise. A pesar de lo masacrada que está siendo 'Tarot' entre crítica y público, lo cierto es que el film supera fácilmente las expectativas que se pueden depositar en ella construyendo una cinta típica pero que sale adelante con eficacia y saber hacer. Así, la película evita algunos de los defectos de este tipo de films y entra rápido en materia con una primera media hora modélica, llena de ritmo y que tampoco se toma demasiado en serio a si misma. A esto ayuda una hábil dirección de los debutantes Spenser Cohen y Anna Halberg, quienes apuntan maneras y a pesar de la limitación de la calificación por edades ponen cuidado en el diseño de las muertes, destacan la de la escalera y sobre todo la del mago. Por otro lado, la idea de utilizar las cartas del tarot cobrando vida proporciona también una imaginería macabra efectiva. Además, la cinta cuenta con una mitología interesante pero que está presentada sin mucho orden ni concierto superponiendo elementos interesantes, todas las historias que cuenta el personaje de una excelente Olwen Fouéré, de una manera precipitada, quizás propiciado por su corto metraje. Es una lástima que la película sufra algún bajón, lo que produce cierta irregularidad, que caiga en el manido e innecesario tópico de introducir elementos como enfermedades, aunque sea de fondo, para darle un dramatismo que no hace falta y contenga alguna cuestión de guion que roza el absurdo. Tampoco beneficia un reparto de jóvenes justito de carisma, se podría salvar un Jacob Batalon que sabe bien en qué tipo de pelicula está. 🎬 Recensie: Tarot (2024) Nu in de bioscoop Een groepje vrienden vindt een mysterieuze tarot deck. Ze negeren de regel dat je nooit iemand anders z’n kaarten mag gebruiken voor een lezing. Ze ontketenen een gruwelijk kwaad dat in de kaarten gevangen zat. Lukt het de vrienden om aan hun lot te ontsnappen? Beoordeling Horrorfilm Tarot begint best aardig. Een leuke vriendengroep, creepy tarotkaarten en een title card die na bijna 20 minuten plots in beeld verschijnt; ik houd er wel van! Maar dan bekruipt me het gevoel dat dit me allemaal wel heel bekend voorkomt. Ja, er is weinig originaliteit te vinden in Tarot. Het vinden van de kaarten doet denken aan de Necronomicon in Evil Dead, de kaartlezingen aan het gebruik van de mysterieuze hand in Talk to Me en de sterfgevallen doen denken aan de Final Destination films. In z’n geheel doet deze horror me ook denken aan het soortgelijke Wish Upon, waarin wensen dodelijke Final Destination-achtige consequenties hebben. Ondanks dat het allemaal bij elkaar gejat is, is Tarot best een vermakelijke zit. Lekker 1,5 uur verstand op nul en genieten van deze Spider-Man spin-off waarin Ned (Jacob Batalon) een nieuwe vriendengroep heeft. Okay, dat laatste is niet waar, maar Batalon speelt zijn rol wel precies hetzelfde. De rest van de jonge cast, bestaande uit o.a. Avantika (Mean Girls), Harriet Slater (Pennyworth) en Adain Bradley (Wrong Turn), speelt redelijk. Ze krijgen weinig om mee te werken en zijn al dood voordat character development een kans krijgt.
