The Mummy is one of the movies that got me into movies. It was a box office hit and is now a bonafide cult classic, and I finally got to see it in theaters for the first time for its 25th anniversary. Fun fact: I even referenced it in my college application, so it technically helped me to get into school and allowed me to pursue a formal education in film (and English). Upon this rewatch, I was so impressed by how well the film held up. It’s a truly epic and immersive action-adventure film with just the right amounts of horror, comedy, and romance. The practical effects and makeup for the mummies especially helped this film to age well. From a writing standpoint, the film is perfectly structured and paced. It hits every beat it needs to and interestingly and effectively switches to a horror film at the midpoint reversal. I was also surprised at how funny the film is. A lot of this is due to Jonathan’s character who elicited many laughs, my favorite being when he says, “Ammmericans,” whilst rolling his eyes. Overall, The Mummy has everything you want from a movie. I was continually entertained and thrilled, and it was so nostalgic seeing Brendan and Rachel again. Most notably, it has the power to transport you to Egypt for 2 hours and make you forget all about the woes of daily life. The Fall Guy movie was so much fun to watch. It makes it more entertaining when the movie was filmed in my home city, Sydney, Australia. Ryan Gosling was hilariously awesome and did an awesome job with his stunts, along with his fellow stunt doubles. Synopsis : En 1805, le capitaine Jack Aubrey est une des figures les plus brillantes de la Marine Royale britannique. Du Brésil aux Galápagos, en passant par les eaux traîtresses du Cap Horn, sa quête tourne bientôt à l’obsession... Mitigé ! Voilà comment je peux exprimé mon ressenti pour ce long métrage. C’est un beau film esthétiquement parlant, surtout en ce qui concerne la photographie, les costumes, le décor… Mais c’est un rythme assez long. On est bloqué pendant presque 2h sur un dirigé par @russellcrowe , ce dernier est excellent dans son rôle, très charismatique. C’est à face à face entre lui et son équipage, sa mission contre la flotte française tourne à l’obsession, il est prêt à mettre à sa vie et celle de son équipage en danger. Le film va s’appuyer essentiellement sur cette aspect. La recherche d’une quête, qui ne restera pas sans conséquence, si bien que certains virent à la folie, à deux doigts de là mutinerie, son meilleur ami qui se fait tiré dessus et à deux doigts de la mort, et c’est peut la où est le tournant du film, la prise de conscience de son héros qui n’hésite à pas arrêter la navigation pour prendre le temps de le soigner. Le combat de fin est cela dit somptueux, c’est un spectacle pour les yeux. C’est un film sur un monde où la guerre faisait rage, la menace peut venir de la nature ou des hommes, en témoigne cette scène de la tempête, très maîtrisé par la réalisation de Peter Weir. Pour ma part, j’ai apprécié, mais j’ai sentis quelques fois certaines longueurs du au rythme, alors certains vont forcément l’apprécier parce c’est une belle histoire et une réflexion sur la vie en mer. We are having one Hell of a year for horror films. Abigail is a blast. The concept was brilliant, and Radio Silence did a solid job in execution. Melissa Barrera was great in the lead, which makes me wonder if her subdued performance in the Scream films was a choice by the directors. Alisha Weir was absolutely fantastic at going from innocent child in one scene to unhinged killer in the next. Not to mention everyone in the supporting cast is aces. Seriously, I always love seeing Kevin Durand get work. I do take issue with the ending as it leaves a little to be desired and feels derivative of another recent horror film's ending. Columbo - Subconscient (Saison 3 épisode 4) Avec Peter Falk (Columbo) et Robert Culp (Dr. Bart Keppel) - Sur TMC 💛📺 (Diffusion aux États-Unis le 16 décembre 1973 sur NBC et en France le 22 novembre 1974 sur la 1ère Chaîne ORTF) - Le Dr Bart Keppel, chercheur en techniques de publicité et éditeur de films publicitaires, a des difficultés relationnelles avec son client, Victor Norris. Ce dernier le menace de raconter à la police qu'il provoque un chantage à l'encontre de ses clients avec un mannequin, Tanya, pour obtenir davantage d'argent de leur part que ce qui est convenu initialement par contrat. Keppel fomente donc l'assassinat de son client et commence par lui faire manger du caviar très salé, sachant que Norris en est friand. Tandis que le publicitaire projette un film à une dizaine de personnes dont il lit le texte depuis les coulisses, il patiente le temps que des images subliminales, qu'il a lui-même insérées dans le film, fassent leur effet et incitent Norris à sortir de la salle pour boire dans le couloir d'à côté. Keppel laisse un enregistrement préétabli de sa voix continuer à prononcer le texte afin de sortir de la salle en toute discrétion. Norris est alors tué par Keppel, qui replace ensuite son arme dans son présentoir et reprend la place de narrateur comme si de rien n'était. Les indices qu'il laisse pointent (assez maladroitement) vers Mrs Norris. Columbo est intrigué par la présence d'un magnétophone qui en ces lieux est incongru, ainsi que par le sang-froid surprenant de Keppel dans les minutes qui ont suivi la découverte du corps. Le projectionniste, Roger White, a quant à lui découvert d'autres indices qui lui font comprendre que Keppel est l'assassin. Ok time for a monster movie double feature re-release in theaters today at Regal! First up for today we are checking out Stephen Sommers 1999 action adventure remake, "The Mummy"! The film is celebrating its 25th Anniversary and to make the occasion Universal Pictures has decided to re-release it in theaters for a limited! Even though this is a remake of the original 1932 classic it’s such a fun entertaining movie to watch! It reminds me why I love movies in the 90s growing up, seriously they hardly make movies like this nowadays anymore! Emily has never seen this film before so I told her she’s in for a treat, I’m glad I got to show her the original 1932 film with Boris Karloff and Zita Johann before showing her this becuase there is plenty of references to that film in this one! The film is directed by Stephen Sommers and stars Brendan Fraser, Rachel Weisz, John Hannah, Arnold Vosloo, Kevin J. O’Connor and Jonathan Hyde among others! Really look forward to seeing this in theaters! I never had the chance to see it back when it originally released all the way back in 1999!
