This was the very first in my Pacific Northwest Local Genii Locorum series, “Owl Meet You at the Falls”. A Genius loci (pl. genii locorum) is the protective spirit or god that inhabits a particular place. I usually incorporate printed fabric into my wool pieces for added depth and texture. However, I didn’t intentionally begin with the idea of the owl within the cliff. After sorting through my stacks of thousands of small pieces of fabric, I stumbled across the owl piece, (from fabric that was probably over 30 years old) and it just seemed a perfect fit. Wet felted, needle felted, machine and hand stitched.
