When the sky gets in on the wildflower bloom also.🌼🌅 — My schedule hasn’t quite worked out as well for getting out on nice days for the gorge wildflowers. Because of that, I got pretty excited seeing a promising morning in the forecast last week. Despite being fleeting, I must say, it was even better than I expected. Fantastic color and the clouds were nice and smooth, like lenticulars. Only downside, the wind was something else. Not only did I not dress quite warm enough, the flowers were swinging all around. Timing shots between gusts was interesting. We left Death Valley and made an impromptu trip to Sequoia and Three Rivers, California. Gosh, we loved our little cottage there. Really picturesque. Quails and turkeys running everywhere, poppies wafting onto the deck. - Orange groves are ridiculously perfumey, in a delightful and unexpected way. - Three Rivers would be 23 degrees, then you drive up into the mountains of Sequoia and we spent a lovely day walking amongst the trees and spotty snow in 4 degree weather. The General Sherman tree (largest tree in volume) was crowded AF, but walk 5 minutes and we were alone. Trees so tall a phone can't capture them, and of course I forgot my wide angle lens. Scientists don't even know if sequoias have a lifespan! They can be 3,000 years old. Mostly impervious to fire, due to their 2 foot bark; they just regrow over the scars. - We've been driving up the coast, working on the perfect smore and catching the beach at sunset. A hidden Spring waterfall in the Umpqua National Forest, Oregon 🌿💦 In the Umpqua National Forest lies a creek up on a mountain that eventually pours into the river. There is a single camp site here at this waterfall, where you can pull your vehicle right up to it. It's one of the craziest things I've ever found. And I'm going to love spending more time here in the future! 😎 But I've been holding onto this shot for a few weeks now, so the flow was in full force then. The light that day was perfect for the shot and the colors really bring that Spring vibe I've been missing. Now that the snow levels are falling in the mountains I will have to go back and adventure to some others I haven't got to show yet! Until then.. I'm visiting Oregon for the week and the weather has been a bit temperamental, so I've been visiting a bunch of waterfalls (and putting off a list of chores my mother has for me to do while I visit). Reflections of a hidden Oregon alpine lake in the Mt Washington Wilderness 🌺🌲💙 I think it's time I bring back reflections into the mix, as I've got a lot of scenes I never got to show last year. This was one of them. Truly one of the most amazing hiking places I've ever been, this lake being the cherry on top. There are a lot of small lakes in this area on this hike, but this one specifically required a special route off trail and probably isn't known by many people. It is very high up in the mountains and is under snow most of the year, but once it melts life thrives here. I really loved the layers here, with the fresh blooms flowering in the foreground being my favorite part about it. Total Spring vibes. I hope you all enjoyed this one as much as I did and expect more reflections to come! Learned about this cool low-grower on our recent trip to the desert. 🤍 SAND-LILY! Leucocrinum montanum 🤍 When we saw some small white bits scattered on the ground in the distance, we went to check it; they so starkly contrasted their earthen background. Once we sleuthed out a name for it, our lily-eyes were activated and we saw them all around! 👀❕ More from Oregon Flora: “The eye-catching sand-lily flourishes in Oregon’s dry sandy soils east of the Cascades. Sand-lilies are springtime bloomers that arise from a deep fleshy rhizome.
