Motherhood It's a trip, right? It opens you up to a love you have never experienced before. Leaving you feeling a huge sense of strength but also incredible vulnerability. We can second guess ourselves at every turn. Should I have said this or done that? Could I have dealt with that differently? Will this have a negative impact? Motherhood is like holding a mirror up to yourself and your own childhood. How you were raised and the trauma or wounds that you still may carry suddenly leap out at you. As we navigate the challenges and joys of raising children, we often confront unresolved issues or traumas from our past. It's like revisiting our own upbringing through a different lens, which can be both enlightening and sometimes unsettling. Motherhood can stir up memories, emotions, and patterns that we may not have fully processed or understood until we become parents ourselves. I wasn't prepared for this. But I'm learning. Im doing the best I can with so much love, but it stirs things up inside me. For many, this experience can be an opportunity for healing and growth, as we work through our own wounds while nurturing and guiding our children. Sometimes, this can be a struggle, but I have realised I have some healing to do. It highlights the profound impact our early experiences have on shaping who we are and how we parent. But what I have learned is that we must show ourselves compassion. Motherhood isn't about being perfect. It's about showing up with love & doing your best. There's always room to grow, and every day is an opportunity to be the best mum I can be. Have you ever felt like this? ❤️

💜 Maternal Mental Health Month 💜 In many countries, as many as 1 in 5 new mothers experience some type of perinatal mood and anxiety disorder (PMD) Mum’s can often feel shame and guilt for the way they feel, pressure to- Be enjoying every second Appear to have their s**t together Managing it all… Yet, some Mum’s at times struggle with the stigma that they can’t cope, aren’t bossing the sleep deprivation and the juggle hustle. Worried if they admit to their doctor they’re feeling a certain way, they may be judged for somehow not looking after their child/ren ok. From someone who suffered with a period of perinatal anxiety with both of my children, I get how tough it can be. Luckily I had a very supportive GP and knew many ways to ease this overtime, whilst still enjoying much of motherhood 🥱 ♥️ 😊 I’ve always adored being a Mum but it is not always easy. The support around us and our mental well-being is so incredibly important 💜

It is written and illustrated by Stephen Hogtun. The pictures are stunning, a true feast for the eyes. But not only that, for me, this book is a beautiful metaphor for good, gentle parenting. A humpback whale mama gives birth to her son and their long journey begins… Along their journey, she teaches him about life and the skills he needs to survive and thrive. She teaches him how to enjoy life and also, how to be patient. Sometimes difficulties come along but she shows him how overcome them and how to appriciate beauty in life despite hardship. At one point, mama has to learn too… when the time comes, when he learnt enough and he is strong enough, she has to let him go. The only thing she can give him now is her support and encouragement. A heartwarming tale about parenting, about the trustful relationship between mum and child. It is filled with love and reassurance. THOUGHTS TO ALL ON MOTHER’S DAY🌺 Following my recent post about #endometriosis, I certainly am repeating how lucky I am to be a mother. I also know how lucky I am to have my mother (who turns 80 this month!) after being adopted at 6 weeks old. A mother is much more than just biology. From my profession, I also know how difficult today will be for those whose mothers are sadly no longer with them and to mothers who have suffered bereavement too. Mothering Sunday is a beautiful day indeed but can be a hard one also.
