Archons (Gnosticism) Archons, in Gnosticism and religions closely related to it, are the builders of the physical universe. Among the Archontics, Ophites, Sethians and in the writings of Nag Hammadi library, the archons are rulers, each related to one of seven planets; they prevent souls from leaving the material realm. The political connotation of their name reflects rejection of the governmental system, as flawed without chance of true salvation. In Manichaeism, the archons are the rulers of a realm within the “Kingdom of Darkness”, who together make up the Prince of Darkness. I have no idea how I survived reading this entire thing. They are some of the weirdest, most bewildering things I’ve ever read. These tracts, once thought to be lost to history, give us a view of the early Christian world and its dynamism. Consisting of what scholars categorize as “Sethian”, “Valentinian”, “Hermetic”, “Thomas Christianity”, and more, there is a wide range of myths, practices, and beliefs. Also included are non-Nag Hammadi discoveries like the Gospel of Mary and The Gospel of Judas, which are particularly fascinating. While reading the collection, I found my head spinning and a couple times they wormed their way into my dreams. Such is their strange power. For example, to many of these texts, the world is polytheistic (but not called that), gender is sometimes fluid in that realm, and female entities coexist equally with males. Also, creation myths are elaborated and changed. Most interestingly to me is the concept of the demiurge. He is the ruthless possessor of the earth called “god” in the Hebrew Bible, and he blocks the true benevolent god from being accessed by humanity. Hence constant suffering and injustice. The reflex of the demiurge is to torture humanity. With this stretch-goal now attained, we can therefore make it so that each copy of the Deluxe Softcover edition of IAO: Ophite Iconography becomes even more, well, deluxe! :D French flaps, such as those shown in the photos above, will be added to the cover and backcover, effectively moving the back-cover info to the interior flaps and only showcasing the full artwork front and back of the book. Next we’d like take this opportunity to explain a bit more what is the sort of binding utilized in the manufacturing of IAO softcover; the OTA binding method. In a nutshell, Ota Binding is a layflat binding option that works with softcovers, allowing them to open as a properly bound hardcover would. Enough for illustrations to be seen in their full glory. Note, also, that these softcovers, unlike other types of Ota-bound books, will be smyth-sewn for maximum durability! (*See photo below.) Due to popular demand, we’ve added a few Destinations to our shipping regions, namely Thailand, Mexico, Peru and Brazil. However, and mostly for Central and South American destinations (Mexico, Peru, and Brazil), we will have to use the services of a private transporter such as DHL. “What is the point of Kickstarter?” Kickstarter is one of a number of crowdfunding platforms for gathering money from the public, which circumvents traditional avenues of investment. Project creators choose a deadline and a minimum funding goal to put the project in production. If the goal is not met by the deadline, NO funds are collected from backers/customers. “How does it work for backers?” If people like the project, they can pledge money to make it happen. If the project succeeds in reaching its funding goal, all backers’ credit cards are charged when time expires (on the 30 days period of the campaign). “What happens if Anathema don’t raise enough money on KS?” Kickstarter has an ‘All or Nothing’ Funding Model. This means that if a campaign doesn’t hit its funding goal, all the pledges are canceled and the project creator doesn’t receive any of the pledged funds. All the money pledged by backers is returned to them and no money exchanges hands. “How safe is Kickstarter?” Our payments processor, Stripe, meets and exceeds the most stringent industry standards for security. In the (somewhat unlikely but) unfortunate circumstance that the forthcoming Kickstarter for @josegabrielalegriasabogal is not fully funded by the end of the 30 days period of the campaign; Anathema will have to resort to its usual Pre-Order modus operandi. Which means that we’ll have to: A. Go forward opening pre-orders, as per usual, on our website, but only for the new title: SEMESILAM: The Eternal Sun (Hardcover editions). B. Alas, IAO: Ophite Iconography will most likely have to be pushed to next year’s release schedule at the earliest (2025 onward). C. Same as we then will not be able to offer most of the Kickstarter Exclusives [and stretch goals] detailed during the campaign, same for the Art Prints reissues (more on that in another post). Irenaeus was a "hearer of Polycarp" (Eusebius, Church History, V.V.viii), who in turn was a disciple of John the Apostle (Catholic Encyclopedia, vol. 8 ). He became bishop of Lyon after the martyrdom of Pothinus. He is most known for Against Heresies, in which he refutes gnostics and specifically Valentinus. Gnostics believed that the material world was created by a demiurge, or evil god, and could be escaped through gnosis, or secret knowledge. This means the Saviour Himself needed redemption from His material body, which He received at His baptism (M. David Litwa, "The Wonderous Exchange: Irenaeus and Eastern Valentinians on the Soteriology of Interchange", pp. 316-317). Against Heresies was written between AD 182 and 188, while Eleutherus was bishop (Church History, V.V.ix). It was the best description of Gnosticism until the Nag Hammadi library. Irenaeus is also the first to declare the four gospels as canonical (Against Heresies, III.XI.vii-ix). In this section, Irenaeus affirms the revealed doctrine of the Trinity. About Jesus, he writes that He "became incarnate", implying His pre-existence (John 1:1-2, 14, 17:5, 24). He also calls Him both Lord and God. Jesus was not created by God the Father as Jehovah's Witnesses teach (Aid to Bible Understanding, pp. 390-391), but is one with God. Like Justin Martyr, Irenaeus wrote about the resurrection and ascension of the Christ "in the flesh". If the resurrection was spiritual, then why will He come back to raise all flesh, saved and damned, so that every knee will bow to Him (Ephesians 1:10, Philippians 2:10-11)?

Choosing was indeed quite difficult, even for us, and so we did everything in our power to 'deal' with the Printer in order to allow for a custom amount of art prints to be produced of every piece; for them to make an exception, if you will. *Just so we're clear though; in order to purchase any of these fine prints, customers will first have to pledge for at least one Reward Tier for the forthcoming publication of 'Semesilam' (hardcover), 'IAO' (softcover), or both!* PS: Also, in order to address a potential concern ahead of time, the Art Prints produced for and solely within the remits of the Kickstarter campaign, will bear an embossed seal stating that these are part of the Exclusive Kickstarter print-run - a special/small batch of 2nd print-run copies. Although we will only reprint the amount of prints sold during the campaign, these will technically be unnumbered copies, as opposed to the original print-run of these.
