Last week I attended the red carpet premiere of National Theatre Live: Nye. An entertaining evening of Michael Sheen in his pyjamas, sharing the story of Nye Bevan (1897-1960), was a charming Welsh man who came from little means, and self educated himself through libraries, to transform Britain's welfare state. It was a pre-recorded production by the UK National Theatre which I saw at Dendy, Portside. While dealing with difficult subject matter, the dancing, singing, and dialogue makes for an entertaining evening. If you like history, biographies, the theatre or have an interest in medical dramas, then you will enjoy NYE. Saw the Ralph Fiennes and Indira Varma version of Macbeth today and it was amazing. Everything about it was really good. I didn't even mind the modern setting. It really captured the creepiness of the story and Fiennes was incredible as Macbeth. Although, the whole cast was phenomenal. Just got to see Nye, starring Michael Sheen, thanks to National Theatre Live. Truly magnificent play, magnetically performed. Sharon Small stole some scenes off Sheen delightfully. Massive approval of their Churchill portrayal, and I had to stop myself laughing at how much of an arse Herbert Morrison was portrayed as. I got to see NYE at the Olivier Theatre shortly before it finished it’s run. What a production! Michael Sheen was incredible as Nye Bevan from his final hours to his childhood and back again and all in his pyjamas! The whole cast were brilliant (So pleased I got to see the wonderful Sharon Small perform again) and I loved the dance like choreography that would play out in the background of a scene and the hugely emotional final moments. The set design was so inventive and the lighting for the mining scene was inspired. NTLive「Best of Enemies」を観に行く。 1968年のアメリカ大統領選挙戦。今では当たり前になっている保守派とリベラル派の有識者によるTV討論会。 どうやら1968年から始まったらしい。 残っている当時の映像を見ると2人とも白人だが、ここでは保守派のウィリアム・F・バックリーJr役を黒人のデヴィッド・ヘアウッドが演じている。 私自身、保守派の中でも黒人は白人以上に「バリバリの保守派」というイメージがあるので、ウィリアム・F・バックリーJr役にデヴィッド・ヘアウッドを割り当てたのは良かったと思う。 また、ドラマのクライマックスで、保守派のウィリアム・F・バックリーJrは、ザカリー・クイント演ずるリベラル派のゴア・ヴィダルに対し聞くに堪えない酷い暴言を吐く。 これも私のイメージだが、アメリカ社会では、黒人による白人への暴言は、その逆（白人による黒人への暴言）より許されるというか、”まだまし”というイメージがあるので、酷い場面だが絶望的な場面とまでは思えなかった。従って、この点においても、このキャスティングはとても良かったと思う。 おそらくは、デヴィッド・ヘアウッドとザカリー・クイントが自分自身に割り当てられた役を十分理解し、演じた結果だと思う。 非常に面白い見応えのあるドラマだった。 #nationaltheatrelive

Dear England 🏴 -National Theatre Live- 今年のOlivie賞🏆ノミネート獲得数が多かったから、気になってNTLで観劇 サッカー発祥国にも関わらず、弱くなってしまったイングランド代表 強いチームへと変化するため、元英代表のGareth Southgateを新しい監督に迎える そんな彼が、過去の大事な試合でPKを外してしまう場面から物語が始まる 6年後のワールドカップでの優勝へと目標を定めて、女性精神科医のチームへの導入、PK戦略を立てたりと、強くなっていく過程が描かれていく 言ったら、日本の日曜劇場っぽい題材(下剋上！みたいな) Beautiful Game とか、それこそテニミュとかスポーツ題材の作品はもちろんあるけど、スポーツ題材ってあんまり見たことないなと。 試合の描写というよりは、そこまでのディスカッションであったり、会話の描写が具体的に作られていて、しっかり演劇。 飽きずに最後まで面白かった 監督含め、選手も実在の人物 今年のOlivieで助演男優賞を受賞したWill Close演じるHarry Kane選手 Gareth監督と同じで、いわゆる“良い人”って言われる存在 (つまり、めちゃくちゃユニークとか変わってるわけではなく、誰とでも卒なく関係を育むけど、都合良く使われがちなタイプ、って劇中でも皮肉られてた笑) どちらかというと寡黙で、目立ちたいタイプではないけど、キャプテンに抜擢される 自分は向いてないんじゃないかって、途中葛藤する場面もあった 彼が喋る度に、現地の観客がウケてるから、何でなんだろうと思って調べてみたら、実在のご本人と外見も似ていて。 分かんないけど、喋り方であったり、本人と似てる瞬間が多いのかな〜と思った 他の選手やスタッフも、私が知らないだけで現実に合わせて作られているのかなと。 Garethが最初に取り組んだのが、いきなり戦略でチームを見直すんじゃなくて、メンバーの精神を鍛えること 精神科医にチームに加わってもらって、プレーする上でのプレッシャーやそれぞれが抱える傷との向き合い方を教えて行く 絶対に勝てないってジンクスが生まれるくらい弱味だったPK戦を克服するために、 蹴る順番、蹴るまでの流れをルーティーン化、1人じゃなくてチーム全体で戦っているという連帯感を共有させる。 そして、監督自身が過去に失敗してしまった辛い経験もメンバーに話して、国を代表することのプレッシャーとの向き合い方も選手に伝える。 PK戦でも勝つことができるようになったけど、最終目標だったワールドカップでは、4位という成績で決着 ただ、負けて帰ってきても、国民から責められることはなく、Garethの変革を経て、チームや選手を励ますファンが増えて、代表チームと国の関係性にも変化があったということで終幕 Gareth監督の過去のPK失敗だったり、選手達が悔しがる描写を見ていて、国を背負うアスリートってこんなにストレスかかるんだ、っていうのをリアルに感じられたのが、すごいなって思った。 あと、その年代ごとの首相が度々出てくるんだけど、ゴールを決める/決められない(国民に支持される/支持されなくて失脚)を重ねてるのも趣向だなと。 コーチ、記者、それこそ政治家、町の人とアンサンブルみたいに演じわけてるおじさま役者達 みなさん、それぞれが細やかに上手かった👏 円形ベースのシンプルなセットも面白い ２つの円が重なっていて、開演すると、上の円が吊り上げられていく 丸い貝殻に挟まれているような感じ 基本、黒色の背景だけど、試合の点数やネットとかが、ネオンのような白い映像で映される 縦長のロッカールームを役者自身が動かして転換 ロッカーが扉みたいに通り抜けられるのも場面によって面白かった。 サッカーファンの方が観た感想を聞いてみたいなって思った！ #0324 #dearengland #nationaltheatre #nationaltheatrelive #play #観劇記録

A brilliant National Theatre production and an outstanding performance by Michael Sheen as Aneurin Bevan. Often intensely moving as 'Nye' very cleverly tells the story of his life and how, in 1948, he fought to create the NHS and free healthcare for all. We didn't manage to see it when it was on at the Olivier Theatre in London (ends 11th May) so seized the opportunity to watch it this way. ふじのくにせかい演劇祭と同じ期間に、ストレンジシード静岡というフェスティバルをやってました。日本ではまだ馴染みが薄いけれど、アジアやヨーロッパでは盛んなストリートシアターという新しいジャンルをやっていて、9年目を迎えるそうです。 会場は駿府城公園。徳川家康が天正13（1585）年に築城し、大御所として晩年を過ごした駿府城の遺構です。 写真はその東御門。この裏側で、"タヌキのへそくり"というシュールな芝居を観ました。 @wawaflamingo タヌキのぬいぐるみを着た女性、ギター弾き語りをする男性、両手にパンを持った女性、上手くないパントマイムをする女性、の4人が不思議な会話をするだけ。 これがなんとも面白かったです。終演後みんなこぞって投げ銭してたし、"上演台本を売ります"、というので買おうとしたら売り切れ。 何が面白かったのか？今も判然としません。 思いつくのは、場と作品のミスマッチ。もしかしたら命のやりとりをしていたかもしれない城壁をバックに、ポツンと台に置かれた黒電話、すっとぼけた演技。 家康が見たら、どんな顔をしたのでしょうか？ K.HORIGUCHI #ワワフラミンゴ#ストレンジシード静岡 #ふじのくに世界演劇 #ハロルドピンター #haroldpinter#ノーベル賞作家 #背信 #betrayal#翻訳#イギリス文学#翻訳物 #舞台 #nationaltheatrelive #ナショナルシアター#舞台観劇#お芝居
