This one person version of Oscar Wilde's classic tale of a man who sells his soul to stay forever young is brought to life by the incredible Olivier winning actress Sarah Snook. It is an extremely creative production which is easy to appreciate. The heavy reliance on screens and filming was a worry for me going in but it is used in so many interesting ways. Sarah Snook gives a masterclass in acting, performing her heart out as she delivers more characters than you can count. Matched with an incredible team of stage hands who help this show move along without a hitch - changing costumes in seconds, moving set pieces and filming it all. It finally puts the hard work of a stage crew in full view so we can appreciate how integral to theatre they are. Thanks to a cheeky lottery win, I got to check out The Picture of Dorian Gray. This one person version of Oscar Wilde's classic tale of a man who sells his soul to stay forever young is brought to life by the incredible Olivier winning actress Sarah Snook. It is an extremely creative production which is easy to appreciate. The heavy reliance on screens and filming was a worry for me going in but it is used in so many interesting ways. Sarah Snook gives a masterclass in acting, performing her heart out as she delivers more characters than you can count. Matched with an incredible team of stage hands who help this show move along without a hitch - changing costumes in seconds, moving set pieces and filming it all. It finally puts the hard work of a stage crew in full view so we can appreciate how integral to theatre they are. Not a book review sorry. But still literature based. This time last week I got to see the amazing Ian McKellen as Falstaff live in ‘Player Kings’. This show portrayed both of William Shakespeares plays on King Henry IV Part 1 and Part 2. Also happened to be the third theatre show I’ve seen this year. Would recommend seeing a play live to anyone and I feel so lucky I got to see Ian/Gandalf himself in the flesh portraying such a great character. All the rest of the cast were amazing too and will certainly be looking into what else they have done. Also sorry I’ve not done any book reviews for a while. Very slowly working my way through 4 books.
