【#會員評論 】《第三十四屆新加坡國際電影節手記》/ #喬奕思 來自土耳其的 Muge Turan，她身兼影評人、伊斯坦堡博物館策展等多職，也是此次新加坡國際電影節費比西獎的評審團主席。我則以香港電影評論學會會員的身份出席。論壇圍繞三個方面展開：影評人的角色、短視頻風潮下的影評、影評的未來。 據 Muge 分享，這一年在其他國際影展，她也參加過類似的、有關影評文化的公開論壇，自然會涉及影評到底是什麼、如何發展下去等方面，然而討論的大背景卻不約而同都是被社交平台、串流媒體、短視頻網站文化逐步徹底改寫、不能回頭的生活日常。 不可否認，文字的創作與閱讀都陷入焦慮的漩渦，面對「大量生產，也被大量淹沒」的現狀，最好是繳械投降，任由快速閱讀，甚至不讀只「刷」，在認知行為中逐步擴大領地，而且，很多時候，對於是否還有必要，或者說到底還能做些什麼，我們並沒有答案。況且，影評對工業、消費的影響早已沒落，意義的消散與讀者的退場導致越來越多的寫作者退場。如果打星就已經足夠，那還有將影評寫下去的理由嗎？ 如果批判性思考還有存在的必要，那麼影評，從看，到思考，再到寫作，與其說是一種市場化追求，不如說是一種認知的追求，文化的追求，一種重新找到觀看與寫作之自我意識的途徑，打破隨波逐流，追逐簡單結論，宅在信息繭房（Information Cocoons）之中諸如此類一早就已經寫好的結局。打星是一種反饋，自然有讓電影觀眾發聲的意義，網絡平台為此提供了渠道。然而，影評不等同於打星，打完星並不意味着同時擁有了評論思維。SGIFF 論壇上所提出的，人人都可以成為影評人，其涵義並非表面上人人都可以給電影打星，而是人人都有可以看見電影、與電影產生思想碰撞交互軌跡的感知力，不要讓這種感知力變鈍退化，最終消失。無論是文字，還是影像，以藝術的形式回應藝術，也是一種評論。事實上，任何藝術作品的誕生都是評論。格里菲斯（D. Watched x3 psychological dramas recently. Anatomy of a Fall (2023) and Tiger Stripes (2023) both garnered awards at the 2003 @festivaldecannes. A Year of No Significance (2023) was just released this December, and deserves some critical attention. "Anatomy of a Fall" (directed by @justine.triet) is a courtroom drama that charts the trial of a wife, Sandra Voyter (a noteworthy performance by Sandra Hueller), accused by the public prosecutor of murdering her husband by causing a fatal fall. A forensic look into contemporary marriage is thus afforded - that both husband and wife are writers (husband being an aspiring one) adds an interesting side dimension on the duplexity of autobiographical fiction, at once reality yet deliberately fictional if the trial demands. "Anatomy" has an artlessness about its plot and direction. Its simple straightforwardness masks its complex making - this is a film that deserves its Palm d'Or. "Tiger Stripes" (dir. by @nelleu) is fabulist take on a female coming-of-age tale. It continues the excellent new wave of Malaysian arthouse films that bake magical realism and folk superstitutions into a contemporary storyline. Zaffran (played by an effervescent Zafreen Zairizal) is a lively girl until her difficult negotiation with puberty and the provincial Muslim village social mores. She literally morphs into a tiger to unleash her feminine fury. Although billed as a horror film, it is not as much terrifying as it is a piece of observant and imaginative social drama. I particularly applaud how the director/screenwright sees Zaffran's metamorphosis through until its exuberant end, rather than opting an easy way out by wrapping up after a sham exorcism. The final film, "A Year of No Significance" is an important addition to Singapore cinema. It fills the silent void on how the 1970s national policies favoring the English-educated displaced an entire generation of Chinese-educated locals. Director, Kevin Tong, is a productive chameleon. His other 2023 film is the horror flick, Confinement, but "A Year" belongs to social realism, which is a completely different film genre. It is a particularly bleak film with (cont. in Comments)
