Hello people of the internet!🌞 I’ve never really introduced myself on this page as I’ve mostly intended it as a way to keep track of my journeys and travels in one quick and easy spot. My name is Alejandra, but I also go by Ale (think ‘Allie’), and this year I will be attempting to thru-hike the 2,198.4-mile Appalachian Trail. I want to use this platform as a way to document my journey and share it with curious minds. Feel free to tag along! There's a special story that goes with this pup. I awoke to a harsh light and on solid ground, in a shack with 20 other explorers from all over the world. A man from Israel slept next to me, and a woman from Sweden to the right. Crawling out of my sleeping bag was nauseating from sleep deprivation. After packing up camp and trying to stretch the tired out of my eyes we began our 10 mile trek. This was day 3 of our journey, and it began before what even nature would consider morning, something like 4am. Setting off on the trail we were not alone. There were about a dozen street dogs mozying around, most uninterested in our presence, but this pooch took a special interest. He became our guardian of the dawn and trotted along in front of us until happily leading us to our stop, several miles in. From here we laid our mats on the wet grass and cuddled up, unaware of what we were about to witness, for it was still pitch dark. In the Guatemalan country there are no street lights guiding the way, only headlamps of the few who came prepared with them. So when the first light of the new day started to appear we were in awe of the view before us. A sweeping drop off of the ground in front of us gave a crystal view of the rising volcano miles further and the magical lake atitlan. This Heterochromiatic dog snuggled in next to me as we took in every moment of that glorious sunrise.
