A children’s story about loss and hope I read this book last week and loved the message given alongside these beautiful illustrations. Because the content is more on the abstract side, it’s better suited for children older than my own. Regardless, this book could absolutely bring up excellent conversations about grief and hope. A beautiful picture book about grief, told in a simple way of a boy talking to a tree about his grandfather who sadly passed away. This story is so beautiful, my mom said as she was reading it aloud she struggled to hold in her tears. There’s a quote from the book that says “Yet a fallen leaf is never wasted. It joins the others on the ground to make the soil richer.” That quote really touched the both of us. It’s amazing in our time of need for books to explain death/grief in simple and easy to understand ways that we are now being made aware of all these beautiful books. Even though it’s painful to read as all the deaths of family members we’ve recently faced are still fresh it’s nice that we are able to read these stories that can help with understanding and healing and moving forward in life. .
