I do believe this is my favorite Lucy Foley book yet. . The Midnight Feast has all of Lucy Foley’s multiple POV glory with an added ritualistic eeriness this time around and so many twists and turns I never saw coming. There were so many times I had no clue where one plot line or another was going to go, but I couldn’t wait to find out. Some I had a decent hunch on and others took me completely by surprise. The best part about those moments was that the groundwork had been laid so subtly that, with hindsight, it all made complete sense. I love a moment when pieces all click together. . Thank you to @netgalley and @williammorrowbooks for the eARC in exchange for an honest review. . . . . . #bookstagram #NetGalley #ARCReview #TheMidnightFeast #LucyFoley #readingrecs #5StarRead

Let's talk DNFs 📖 I spent all last week reading this book, only to stop at 37%. I had heard so much hype about this title and I was really excited to read it but I wasn't connecting with the characters. Their interactions or motivations did not seem realistic or believable and so I couldn't force myself to keep reading. One of my NY resolutions for reading was to DNF books if I'm not excited by a book. On the bright side, at least I managed to get some good reading done in my mother-in-law's orangerie during one of the first days of summer!☀️ If you have recently DNF'd a book, let me know why? Do you often DNF or do you push through regardless? 📚

I am a big fan for Sébastien de Castell''s Greatcoats. Swashbuckling, justice, cutting lines, what's not to love? But this time we are not following Falco, but the King's Crucible, Estevar Valejan Duerisi Borros in "Crucible of Chaos." An investigator of the supernatural, or at least the possibility of the supernatural. After receiving a letter from his long term correspondence, the head of the abbey at the most holy place in the land. Except most of the gods are dead...and there is a knight telling him not to go to Isola Sombra, because of the demons. Another small issue, the wound he took in a duel that he could have refused. But he is armed with his mind, a capable assistant, and a great ass named Imperious (he is a very good mule) to uncover what is going on at this abbey. Reasons to read: -Folks up to date with the workings of the setting are in for a treat -The swagger of a nearly dead investigator -Again, a great ass -Banter -A trial -I'm just very happy with this one Cons: -It's going to hurt a bit #books #bookinstagram #bookstagram #fantasy #sebastiandecastell #crucibleofchaos #greatcoat #hachettbookgroup #netgalley #brokenbinding #readersofinstagram #readersoffantasy #readingcommunity #bibliophile #bookcommunity #bookreview #bookrecommendations

🌳📚 Book Review📚🐴 Hi. I did a #bookreview for EARL’S TRIP by @jennyholi. It is the 1st book in the Earl’s Trip series. It was a good book. . The link to my site is in my bio, this post will be on the first page. . Blurb: Ted Lasso meets Bridgerton for a 19th century spin on The Hangover in USA Today bestselling author Jenny Holiday’s laugh-out-loud bromantic comedy featuring three Regency-era Earls on their annual trip – ride-or-die buddies offering one another unconditional support in everything from Lady problems to family woes. Even an earl needs his ride-or-dies, and Archibald Fielding-Burton, the Earl of Harcourt, counts himself lucky to have two. The annual trip that Archie takes with his BFFs Simon and Effie holds a sacred spot in their calendars. This year Archie is especially eager to get away until an urgent letter arrives from an old family friend, begging him to help prevent a ruinous scandal. Suddenly the trip has become earls-plus-girls, as Archie’s childhood pals, Clementine and Olive Morgan, are rescued en route to Gretna Green. This…complicates matters. The fully grown Clementine, while as frank and refreshing as he remembers, is also different to the wild, windswept girl he knew. This Clem is complex and surprising—and adamantly opposed to marriage. Which, for reasons Archie dare not examine too closely, he finds increasingly vexing. Then Clem makes him an indecent and quite delightful proposal, asking him to show her the pleasures of the marriage bed before she settles into spinsterhood. And what kind of gentleman would he be to refuse a lady? . #EarlsTrip #NetGalley #historicalromanticcomedy

🌟Arc Review🌟 Title: The Stolen Girls by Jez Pinfold Genre: Thriller My rating: 3/5 Release date: 2 May About the book📕 A young woman stands in the doorway of the police station, silhouetted against the fierce sunlight. She is red with blood. The woman stares Detective Bec Pope dead in the eye. “Help me,” she says. Then collapses. The woman is Alice Lowrie, one of the three girls who went missing and were never found in the Tina Waterson case eight years ago - Pope’s first case as a detective. Tina’s body was found dumped just outside Bermondsey, but the other girls have never been found. Until now. Pope is determined to right the wrongs of the past. But what is the truth about Alice ...and where has she been all this time? My review👩🏻‍💻 The book is well-written and is really twisty and gripping. It is a quick and easy read. The characters are great, plot-line is good and the premise is captivating. I enjoyed it. Overall, it is a nice book and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a quick read or as a palate cleanser. Knight of the Goddess By: Briar Boleyn Rating: 5/5 I received eARC for my honest opinion.   This is the fourth and final installment of Blood of a Fae series and wow did Briar knock it out with this book. I am so happy with the ending of this book but at the same time I didn’t want to finish this book because I knew that would mean Morgan and Draven story was at its end. However, with that said I was able to finish this book in 2 days, I couldn’t find myself able to keep it down for very long. I will be recommending this author and this series to anyone who is interested in fantasy romance.   This book has some amazing world building, the plot is fun and exciting with new twists and turns in the plot. I loved that it kept me on my toes throughout the book, just when I thought I figured out something, something new would happen and I would be so shocked that I couldn’t put the book down. I loved that with this book you really do get a feeling of everything all wrapped up in their story and with nothing left unsaid. I found with Briar writing you will be swept away into the world that she is painting for you, and you will be able to feel the characters emotions, you will be right there with them fighting, with them through the hard times and with them through the amazing wins. You will find magic, mythical creatures, betrayal, and some great steamy scenes. I loved that you have multiple POVs throughout the book and it’s not hard to know who’s POV it is now because she has it clearly marked at the start of each chapter. I loved that you got to see what they were thinking about the issues that they faced and how they would be feeling the same way as another character or why they were feeling different. It really helped the reads connect to the characters and the events that happened.   I want to thank NetGalley for the opportunity to review this book. ❓Any fun plans this weekend? What will you be reading? #knightofthegoddess #briarboleyn #netgalley

EVERY TIME I GO ON VACATION, SOMEONE DIES ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ | Mystery, Thriller, Fiction | Format: 🎧 ARC 𝚃𝚑𝚊𝚗𝚔 𝚢𝚘𝚞 @netgalley 𝚊𝚗𝚍 @macmillan.audio 𝚏𝚘𝚛 𝚝𝚑𝚎 𝚊𝚞𝚍𝚒𝚘 𝙰𝚁𝙲 𝚋𝚎𝚏𝚘𝚛𝚎 𝚛𝚎𝚕𝚎𝚊𝚜𝚎 𝚒𝚗 𝚎𝚡𝚌𝚑𝚊𝚗𝚐𝚎 𝚏𝚘𝚛 𝚖𝚢 𝚑𝚘𝚗𝚎𝚜𝚝 𝚛𝚎𝚟𝚒𝚎𝚠. Her plan is to get through the tour and kill off main character Connor, but then that all comes to a halt when a murder attempt is made on the real Connor’s life (who has joined the tour also). Suddenly, Eleanor’s fictional life turns real and she has to help solve the case of who is out to get them (how fitting!) all while dealing with past flame Oliver who bounces back into her life too. I loved Eleanor’s character and she was one of my favourite female protagonists I’ve ever read. Eleanor is witty and talks to you (the reader) directly, as she narrates her own story of her now murdery book tour. You almost feel like you’re engrossed in a first-person true crime podcast. The book has Eleanor’s own footnotes too which completely adds to the sassiness and hilarity of her character. Another aspect I loved is all of the pop culture references. The endless nods to Taylor Swift, the actual reference to OMITB… classic. Also, if you finished this and didn’t instantly want to fly to Amalfi and get an authentic Aperol Spritz, I dare you to read it again. 💭 If you read this - what were your initial thoughts of who the killer was? Did it take you by surprise too? @catherinemckenzieauthor , I love that this is going to be a series because I need more! Cannot wait for The Vacation Mysteries #2 😩 (& am totally going to go buy the physical trophy for my book shelf now because I NEED to read again!) Definitely recommend this one if you’re looking for a light and airy suspenseful read that is full of humour, and will keep you guessing until the end (my Goodreads updates are proof) ✅

🖤Take All of Us🖤 by Natalie Leif So apparently I need to get back into the apocalypse genre because I forgot how enjoyable it can be, especially when paired with mild horror... Take All of Us is a story about an apocalypse and what it means to take up space as a person. While I think the “horror” aspects were more “gore” than anything, I did really enjoy the world and the messages the story shared. We follow Ian, an epileptic teen who just happens to hit his head and die at the beginning of this apocalypse, transforming him into what is basically a zombie-in-progress. He teams up with the handful of others left behind in the evacuation as they try to save their town - and Ian - from turning completely into the undead. There was a lot of build-up to an ending that might be considered by some to be unsatisfying or abrupt, but because it wraps up most of the loose ends, I was willing to accept it. (However, I do think it could be more in-depth because there are some moral issues that we just gloss over and accept without considering the consequences). I really liked the found family vibes that developed throughout the story. Ian’s personality reminded me a lot of some of my favorite characters, although I can’t pinpoint exactly who. Angel was a bit annoying at times, but I didn’t mind her or Monica and their developing friendship. Zoey didn’t get much development, so I can’t say much about her. However, I didn’t trust Eric for, like, the whole story, and I see everyone else saying he’s amazing, but I still got bad vibes from him that I struggled to ignore as the story progressed. If you’re looking for a YA sci-fi with apocalypse and found family elements with bits of romance, horror, and action, look no further than Take All of US. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the free e-ARC! 4/5 #bookstagram #bookreview #takeallofus #natalieleif #netgalley

📖 𝐁𝐨𝐨𝐤 𝐑𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐰 📖 Savor It - Tarah DeWitt Genre: Romance ⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 Pub Day: May 21st 𝗤𝗢𝗧𝗗: Do you like to cook? - I do not. My husband is the chef in the family 🧑‍🍳 Thank you @netgalley and @stmartinspress for my #gifted copy! Swipe ➡️ for the Goodreads synopsis. This is one of those books that’s fun and entertaining while you read it, but will most likely forget in a month 🙈. It’s a feel-good, heartwarming story that’s perfect for summer. I enjoyed the small town setting with their small town traditions. I liked the beginning of Sage and Fisher’s relationship and the deal they made to help each other, but it’s a SLOW burn. The author did a fabulous job though building up the tension! This book will definitely make you laugh. Between the dialogue (I love when characters are sarcastic), ALL the animals, and the events that happen, you’ll be smiling the whole time. Andrea @andrea.c.lowry.reads and I sure had some good laughs with these quirky people! TGIF! 💜Kaley

Happy May! I’m turning 28 this month, which we won’t talk about because I’d rather be 27. Social media keeps telling me I should be slapping retinol onto my face by the bucket full, but last week my masseuse told me I looked 17. What is my real age? Who knows. I don’t. Don’t tell me it’s 27-almost-28, I’m not listening. Is it bizarre that being 28 sounds horrendous but being in my 30’s sounds mega fun? Anyway. While The Book of Form and Emptiness gripped me nowhere near as much as A Tale for the Time Being, I still enjoyed this story of a teenage boy and his mother navigating grief after the death of their father/husband in their own ways. Benny begins to hear voices of the objects around his house, objects that only multiply as Annabelle develops a hoarding problem. As per usual, I love Ozeki’s blend of real issues with magical realism, and I thought it was a great look at how we respond to loss, My only criticism would be that Annabelle’s attitude towards her son just dipped a little too much into childish in places. I know parents always see their children as children, but sometimes she spoke to him like he was four rather than fourteen! While I find certain prizes a mixed bag, if a book makes the Women’s Prize longlist there’s a pretty strong likelihood I’ll like it. I have my fingers very tightly crossed for Soldier, Sailor by Claire Kilroy to win this year - my heart is still a little achey thinking about it. I have proofs absolutely coming out of my ears at the moment - I blacked out for ten minutes last week and emerged from the haze with NetGalley requests in the double digits - so I have no doubts one of those will be next on my list, once again breaking my Last Now Next post promise. If anyone has ever posted one of those and actually committed to it then please let me know, so I can be endlessly impressed! 🅱🅾🅾🅺 🆁🅴🆅🅸🅴🆆 - OUT NOW! (National Paranormal Day!) L.C., at least that's what her friends call her, suffers from severe depression. The kind of depression that leaves you constantly tired, vulnerable, self-loathing and guilty. She spends most of her day festering in the darkness of her room. At the foot of her bed is a large mirror in which lurks the Other Body. "Blurred and distorted." This Other Body at first has no eyes and no mouth, but evolves into a more articulate and intelligent entity as L.C. sinks ever lower. She can hardly look away from it, as it transfixes any gaze that falls upon it. Even her friend Hamlet is consumed. Her mother, her little sister, and her friends Uriel and Rebel attempt to ask "are you ok?" But now can one answer honestly when one is so burdened, hunted by shadows with hardly the strength to speak? The imagery is superb, and many times I felt unnerved by what I was reading and couldn't look away. It felt voyeuristic in a way, watching a character sink deeper and deeper into darkness. Even so, it reads like a series of vignettes. The transitions are surreal, and I was never entirely sure if L.C. was dreaming or awake. Hypnagogia right? So structurally it makes perfect sense. The only reason it didn't get 4 or 5 stars is because I have too many questions. I understand that it has a supernatural theme, portions of it are going to be unexplainable. But I thought Hamlet was going to serve a greater purpose or perhaps Uriel and Rebel would be returning if only briefly. And what is the Church and what of L.C.'s "father's" actions? The latter has a great build up but his ending only left me more confused. Still, it's a fine introduction to a complex character, and like I said, you can't beat the mental visualizations from this one. The sequence in the hospital and the gathering of mirrors was particularly well done. I'll definitely be giving Simpson another chance. #bookreview #netgalley #mayreads #Hypnagogia #fiction #horror #readersofinstagram #readingcommunity #booklover #booksofinstagram #bookstagram #bibliophile #historynerd #historylover #historybooks #booklove #bookish #bookworm #historyreader #nationalparanormalday

✨Book Review✨ “Sometimes, Emma, making the mistake is the best part about love.” Hannah Brown is one of my favorite bachelorettes, so I was excited to get into this second chance read, but it just didn’t work for me. Emma and Finn have almost ended up together time and time again, but when her best friend Sybil runs away from her wedding, the two are thrown together on an adventure to find her and the longer they search, the more sparks rekindle. I had a hard time ever liking Sybil, there was never enough explanation about what happened with her and honestly not enough moments to show the strength of their friendship how Emma sees it. Sybil is not a girl’s girl. Plus there was a storyline with Emma’s dad that just didn’t seem to match Emma at all. I liked how much Emma cared for her friends but she’s hard to connect with overall, I had a hard time actually getting to know her. I liked her and Finn’s banter and the pacing was good. But I ended up just getting frustrating, I wanted more explanation of what happened to Sybil, I wanted more moments of friendship, I wanted more romance and growth. As a second chance romance, there was some cute moments and my heart went out to Emma, but I just wanted more. Thank you @readforeverpub & @netgalley for this ARC. The Girl from the Hidden Forest by @hannahlinderbooks This was a fun historical and mysterious read! Eliza has been raised in the forest by Captain, she has learned to live and rely on him and the land. She knows there is danger out there and that day has finally come. The danger has come for her and everything she remembers and has known is now called into question. Eliza is taken and returned to her real father, but this isn't her life, this isn't her. She just wants to go back to her forest, back to Captain where things are safe and they were living their lives quietly. Eliza does all that she can to try and escape but until she remembers what happened the night her mother was murdered, she is bound to this forsaken place. She is the only one who holds the key to that night, and has the truth of who murdered her mother. Felton knows that Eliza is the only one who can free his father, the one who was accused of the murder. He knows his father is innocent and wants that truth out before it's too late. But it appears that someone doesn't want the truth to come out and now Eliza's life is at risk and she is questioning her nightmares and the bits and pieces that are coming back to her from that night. Can she remember what happened that night, and will Felton's father finally be freed of this accusation? This was such a good read. I loved the mystery, the history and the twisted storylines that all come together in the end. Thank you to @barbourbooks for the complementary novel. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟If you were a fan of Look Closer by David Ellis, The Best Lies will be a must read because dare I say, I think its even better!!! I found the way the whole story developed to be so original and absolutely brilliant! Thank you so much NetGalley and @putnambooks for entrusting me with an early arc of this book! I went into this one blind, and I think that is definitely the way to go if you’re willing to trust me! Leo Balanoff is a diagnosed pathological liar and a lawyer. He’s also charming, funny, broken and flawed. When his finger prints are all over a murder crime scene, it might be the FBI’s only way to take down an elusive crime lord. Leo doesn’t seem to have much of a choice…go undercover for the FBI or face life in prison and either way he knows he’ll be facing the wrath of the crime boss. But Leo has secrets of his own and maybe some tricks to play! This is the perfect psychological thriller with a bit of humor and a touch of romance thrown in! The characters were great and the twists had me going “wow…oh wow….woah wow”! 🎉🎉Available July 23 – but I couldn’t wait, and it definitely delivered!🎉🎉 What book are you recommending to everyone? 📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📚 #TheBestLies #DavidEllis #NetGalley #AprilReads #DawnsReviews #Thriller #psychologicalthriller #crimethriller #arc #5starreviews #goodreads #ClearYourShelfChallenge #2024NetGalleyChallenge #arcreview

The Secret Daughter of Venice by Juliet Greenwood @julietgreenwood, narrated by Hannah Curtis. The Secret Daughter of Venice is a historical fiction novel set in the 1940s, during WWII. Although WWII is the backdrop and we see the impacts of war, the story’s focus isn’t on the war itself. The story is set in multiple locations but the two main locations are Stratford-upon-Avon and Venice. It also features Cornwall, Naples, and even Pompeii. We also have two character points of view – Kate and Sofia – and they are both from the same timeline. We see each POV as time progresses until they both converge. The story features themes of self-discovery, identity, and family. Art is a strong feature of the story as well and I enjoyed the descriptions of the art. I enjoyed the audiobook narration by Hannah Curtis. This was my first book by Greenwood and I didn’t realise that it was the second book in a series until after I had finished it! However, in my reading of it, it felt like a standalone and I am now keen to read the first book. Thanks to @netgalley and @headlinebooks for an e-arc copy in exchange for an honest review! Alison Weir's 'Mary I: Queen of Sorrows' is a masterful blend of history and fiction, offering a poignant glimpse into Tudor England and an enigmatic monarch often overshadowed by her successors. Both immersive and informative it offers a fresh perspective on the various phases of Mary's life and reign from childhood, "the great matter", her religious fervor and the events ultimately leading to her enduring historical epithet, 'Bloody Mary.' The strengths of this book for me were the historical accuracy and authenticity, the humanizing portrayal of Mary (without changing my opinion of her), the insightful exploration into various aspects and phases of Mary's life and the challenges she faced as well as the complex relationships portrayed such as sibling affection to political rivalry. These dynamics add layers to Mary's story, particularly in her interactions with Elizabeth and her unexpected revelations about Philip. Despite her unwavering conviction in her actions, it's disheartening to observe how she disregards valuable advice from multiple sources. Her steadfast belief in her righteousness blinds her to the reasons behind the loss of love and adoration from the very people who initially supported her ascension to the throne. Be sure to check out the authors notes in this book too, it's pure gold! Added bonus are some book club questions 📖 A must read for history buffs and fiction lovers alike! #HistoricalFiction #BookRecommendation #NetGalley #HeadlinePublishers #MaryIQueenofSorrows #AlisonWeir

✨Book Review: Every Time I Go On Vacation Someone Dies by Catherine Mack✨ Bestselling author Eleanor Dash just wants to make it through her Italian book tour and kill off Connor (her main character) in her next book. That might not be as easy as it sounds, as she is joined on the tour by rival authors, crazy fans, and her ex - as well as real Connor, an old fling her character is based off. When someone tries to kill Connor off in real life, they must discover who the real villain is as their lives turn into a real murder mystery. I went into this read with fairly low expectations and mostly blind - and was so pleasantly surprised! I loved the background of the characters being in the literary world. This book felt self-aware, and didn’t take itself too seriously. The tone reminded me a little of Everyone in my Family Has Killed Someone, which I also loved. This was a very quick and funny read, with some extremely ridiculous situations. Despite that, the characters had some intriguing back stories, and I can see myself reading sequels and enjoying learning more about them! I would recommend this as a fun and quick cozy mystery, perfect for summertime! My rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 QOTD: What is a book you would recommend as summer reading? #everytimeigoonvacationsomeonedies #netgalley #cozymystery #alcreview #audiobookstagram #mysterybooks #booksbooksbooks #bookreview #readingcommunity

Book: A Friend Indeed Author: @elka.ray Publishing: May 14, 2024 Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️(4/5) Review: Fast pace, duel POVs, secrets, lies, small-town vibes, blackmail, & women-centered. I have conflicting feelings about this. There were a few things thrown in that I thought were unnecessary. It's an entertaining read if you don't take it too seriously. The settings and descriptions are very detailed. Not very many likable characters, but gives the story depth. Deliciously good twists and turns. I recommend this! Thank you to NetGalley and @simonschusterau for the opportunity to read and review this eARC. ⭐⭐⭐⭐- 4/5 The North Wind was promoted as being inspired by Beauty and the Beast, and Hades and Persephone, and for fans of Jennifer L. Armentrout, Sarah J. Maas, and Scarlett St. Clair – I think this was mostly accurate. This was overall a good, enjoyable read for me, hence the 4 stars! It was certainly slow-burn, enemies-to-lovers-esque (which I think is expected for the main characters). Whilst this was slower romance wise, the general storyline and the events that were unfolding drew me in quickly. But I did find it had more focus on the romance than the fantasy. Wren had moments that I didn’t particularly care for, but otherwise she was a good FMC. I finished the read still having some questions I thought would be answered, but I’m hoping this will explored in future editions to the series. Looking forward to more and it was overall a very enjoyable read from Alexandria Warwick. ~ ~ 🏷️ #bookstagram #fantasy #fantasybooks #reading #igreads #booklover #tiktok #fantasyromance #specialeditionbooks #booktok #bookcollector #bookish #bookcommunity #bookreview #ARC #EARC #netgalley #TheNorthWind #alexandriawarwick #simonanschuster #simonandschusteraustralia

Cunning Folk: Life in the Era of Practical Magic by Tabitha Stanmore Read 30th Apr - 2nd May 2024 4 out of 5🌟 📖 Nonfiction - History A look at the use of magic in England from the fourteenth century onwards. So-called 'cunning folk' were used throughout these centuries to provide services such as finding missing items or people, providing love or fertility charms, curing illness, & even the odd get-rich-quick scheme. They were viewed as different to witches (who could also be either male or female), as witches were viewed as practising magic to do harm, whilst cunning folk were mainly thought to be trying to help. This is an interesting & informative read with a lot of information packed into its pages. Personally, I felt that it became a little dry to read in places - the curse (pun intended) of academic work - but it always keeps the reader engaged enough to continue. The crossover with Catholicism & calling on the saints for aid was particularly interesting to me as was the evolution of the laws & societal viewpoints on magic which gradually shifted into something more malevolent & culminated in the witch trials. One slight let-down (which is not the author's fault) is that the records so often don't tell us what happened afterwards to the people involved in the cases discussed. Overall it was a very enjoyable read. My thanks to #NetGalley & publishers, Random House UK/Vintage/Bodley Head, for the opportunity to read an ARC. #CunningFolk #BookReviewers #RandomHouseUK #VintageBooks #BodleyHeadBooks #HistoryOfMagicReads https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/6289863192

#38. Ms O'Shea is your typical girl from Ireland. She has dreams of running her own tour company but lacks the capital to get her started. Then she gets the offer of a lifetime from an American couple: to show them all the best, unknown, sites of Ireland. They will pay her $20,000 for her time. How could she refuse? But as the saying goes, if it seems to good to be true, it probably is. She doesn't realize this couple has a very sinister plan in store for her. From the beginning, the book starts off with a bang! It gives just enough details to keep the reader intrigued. The more I read, I pretty much figured out the twist, however, it twists again, and I guarantee it will leave you saying What!? I read the last 30% in one day, as I didn't want to stop reading. I wanted to find out what happened next. The few grammatical errors did not take away from the story. It was otherwise well written. This was my first Daniel Hurst book, and I wasn't disappointed. I would recommend this book, and I will even look into more of his books for future reading. I read this book courtesy Netgalley and thank them for the opportunity to read this gripping thriller. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ #bookblogger #bookrecommendations #booklover #bookreview #booknerd #bookstagram #bookaddict #thefamilytrip #netgalley @netgalley @danielhurstbooks

✨ REVIEW ✨ 'As each of my children possess magic, each of my children have been deemed eligible to rule. In the spirit of what is best for the kingdom and our people, we have devised a process to determine which of them would be best suited to rule this magnificent land.' When it is revealed Arabella and her three siblings will be competing for the right to the throne, Arabella doesn't want anything to do with it. Her future seems set, with a betrothal to a prince of another kingdom on the cards, while her heart pines for her childhood friend, Tomas. If she were to win the crown, it would be the opportunity of a lifetime. It would allow for more slightly freedom, but less chances to spend time with Tomas, who sets her heart racing, despite the two of them pretending there is nothing between them. Arabella must make a choice: to stand back and let her fate be decided for her, or to take control and seize the crown. Even if it could mean she'll spend the rest of her life longing for everything she can't have. ⭐⭐⭐½ This ARC was very kindly received from @netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This book was a lighthearted romantasy, and I enjoyed it. Arabella was a spunky heroine who is exploring the reach of her power, and I liked watching her get to use it more and more throughout the book. I thought the book struggled with pacing issues, however, and I would have liked to see the characters do even more with their magic. I felt like it got lost in the love triangle for most of the middle of the book, and while I love a good romance this just made it drag a little bit for me. The time jumps were also confusing and clunky at times. My favourite part of the book were the dynamics between Arabella and her siblings. They were so interesting to me! I liked that they were complex, and that they could be spiky and weren't afraid to go for what they wanted, even if it meant fighting against one another for power. Overall, it was a fun read! #bookstagram #books #booklove #readingismagic #books #bookstagrammer #reading #reader #australianbookstagrammer #readersofinstagram #readinglove #princessofair #netgalley #bookreview #ARCreview

Me: I’m a beach reader first, then just in my garden. 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔 Review Breanna thinks she will have a great weekend staying in a beautiful Airbnb with her boyfriend Ty. Her life changed dramatically in college, and she has never regained her footing or sense of self. She is starting to have feelings for Ty and looks forward to a terrific weekend. But Ty, unlike Bree is a workaholic and something or someone keeps interrupting their plans.Bree seems to understand, but when Ty vanishes and she finds a dead body in the rental, her life quickly spins out of control. The story tackled a lot of real-world problems. The power and negativity of social media, a black man seen as the number one suspect in a murder, and Bree’s past, making her somehow look guilty too. While she desperately tries to find Ty, she also learned that her past had hidden layers that changed her life. I loved Bree, went back-and-forth between believing Ty could not have murdered someone, and then thinking, well, I hardly knew him (just like Bree). There was one character (only one!) who I wished Bree had never met. No spoilers but I bet you will know who I mean after you read Missing White Woman. Secrets never stay secret, and when they are revealed the damage they cause can be worse than had they never been secret. Secrets abound in #DaysofWonder, hiding the truth and separating people from those they love. The story is an emotional roller coaster of loss and guilt, finding love and losing it. But in the end, when the truth is revealed, healing begins and love finds its home. Ella and Jude were teenage soul mates. Jude had secrets, the secrets of his mother’s death and his father’s alcoholic abuse. As Jude becomes close to Ella and her mother, his father pushes to separate them, finally taking a job in another city. The young lovers stay awake for days, inseparable, dreaming of ways to stay together. When Jude’s father nearly dies, Ella is arrested for attempted murder. Neither Ella nor Jude have clear recollections of what had happened that fateful night when Jude’s father was poisoned. Only Jude’s father knows the truth, and he uses his power as a judge to place the blame on Ella. Jude does not know that she was pregnant, and was coerced to give the baby up; she was sentenced to twenty-five years and could not take care of a child. With an early release, Ella is intent on one thing: finding her daughter. She gets employment by lying about her felony conviction and moves to Ann Arbor, stalking her daughter until by chance she meets the adoptive mother, and befriends her. Her daughter’s adoptive family looks perfect from the outside, but it is far from a happy family. Can she protect her daughter? When Ella’s secret past is revealed, she is poised to lose everything. This emotionally charged novel is a page turner, and although coincidences and melodrama abounds, it will appeal to a large readership. Thanks to @algonquinbooks for a free book through #netgalley

Lucy Stewart lives in the Hunter Valley, in the Colony of New South Wales and she’s running her husband’s transport business using a bullock team and a three wheeled dray. She can’t believe it when her brother-in-law Joe, a gentle soul is accused of murder and it makes no sense. Constable Sam Donovan has been sent to Batley to investigate possible corruption, he meets Joe Stewart and he believes he's innocent and he's determined to find the real killer. Lucy is an independent person, she runs their small farm, harnesses the bullock team, keeps them moving and makes deliveries. Lucy hates asking for help, however she will do anything to get Joe out of the lock-up, and she needs Sam's assistance. The Smokey Gang has been operating in the area for a couple of years, the bushrangers ambush Lucy and threaten her. Together they need to solve the mystery of who’s the real the killer, are they linked to The Smokey Gang and what are they doing with the stolen goods? I enjoy authentic and well written Australian fiction, Paula J. Beavan makes you feel like you’re in New South Wales in 1842, the language and sayings are appropriate for the time and so is the plot. I could easily picture in my mind the dense scrub, gum trees and spookiness of the uncleared bushland. Based around true facts of women who were bullock drivers, gangs of bushrangers and life in colonial Australia. The story has elements of suspense, mystery, danger, secrets, blackmail and combine this with Lucy's determination and never give up attitude and it's a believable scenario. The characters make the narrative, I really liked Lucy and Sam, Joe and Bill Wright, Sophia and George Harcourt, Splinter Lucy’s dog and Sam’s horse Ramses. Five stars from me, Lucy got on with things without making a fuss and she’s a strong person and Sam Donovan is a swoon worthy hero and he made my heart flutter. I highly recommend Among the Grey Gums and due to be released on the 5th of June 2024. @harlequinaus #amongthegreygums #paulajbeavan #harlequinaus #netgalley #historicalfiction #newreleasebooks #bookrecommendations #bookblogger #karrensreadingnook #bookreview #readersofig #australianwomenauthors #bookish #booksbooks

4.4 stars When this arc landed on my kindle I couldn’t wait to get stuck in. Griffin is fast becoming my favourite romantic-thriller writer. It was great coming back to the characters I’d just read about in Flight. Nicole and Emmet’s story really started there, and I have a slight regret that I haven’t had the chance to read the two books in between yet, as it’s clear I missed a few things (but this can still be read as a standalone). I literally hang on every word Laura Griffin writes, and while this is a romantic story, it is also a well constructed thriller. Griffin never sacrifices her writing or story for the sake of the romance and it’s one of the things I most love about her books. The way Griffin writes, I really feel like I am inside the story. The characters feel very real me and I always have a strong connection to them. Liar’s point is no exception to that. I rated this ever so slightly lower than Flight, that was simply because I preferred the slightly more mature couple of Joel and Miranda, and I always have a preference for romances that begin with strangers first meeting. I have no criticisms. Laura Griffin is queen of romantic suspense. Now I find myself overwhelmingly excited to pick my next Laura griffin read, but can’t choose - they all sound so good! Thanks to netgalley and headline for the chance to read this early. #liarspoint #lauragriffin #texasmurderfiles #headlinebooks #netgalley #BookLover #BookWorm #BookNerd #Literature #MoreBooksPlease #Bookstagram #Bookstagrammer #bookreview #BookCollector #PrettyBooks

Today it is my turn on the blog tour for The French Cookery School by Caroline James 📚 Book Review 📚 The French Cookery School by Caroline James I received an advance review copy for free thanks to Rachel's Random Resources and I am leaving this review voluntarily. Blurb The recipe for a perfect summer… Step 1: Mix together a group of mature students Step 2: Add in a handsome host Step 3: Season with a celebrity chef Step 4: And bring to the boil at a luxurious cookery school in France… Waltho Williams has no idea what he’s letting himself in for when he opens the doors to his beautiful French home, La Maison du Paradis. But with dwindling funds, a cookery school seems like the perfect business plan… Divorcée caterer Caroline needs to be able stand on her own two feet. While warm-hearted Fran hopes to help her beloved husband fulfil his lifelong dream. And for food journalist Sally it’s a PR opportunity – until a certain celebrity chef gets under her skin… But will the eclectic group be a recipe for success, or will the mismatched relationships sink like a souffle? My Opinion I don't like starting a book review with a complaint, but in this case I have no choice - this book made me want to eat so much food. With some fabulous descriptions, I would recommend not reading this book without snacks on hand. The title of this book sums it up perfectly, we meet a group of strangers who have all travelled to France to learn about cooking. This was such an easy book to read and it was very easy to just keep reading. I was surprised by how fast I worked my through the pages - I was just so lost in the story. Caroline James has written some brilliant characters and added in quite a bit of humour to make this a lovely book. This is going to make for a fabulous summer read. Rating 4/5

📚 Book Review 📚 Wow! This was full on and pacy from the first page. Young couple Cleo and Harris are driving along a tree lined highway at night, heading straight towards their future when an unthinkable event occurs. Things will never be the same for them again. Fast forward fifteen years and their paths cross once more. Their lives have changed but the feelings they have for each other clearly have not. This is not so much a psychological love story, but a handbook on obsession and control. It was non stop and at points quite scary to be a part of. It was very easy to read, with short chapters which is great for people like me who read before going to sleep and even better for the ‘just one more chapter’ readers! You just want to keep reading. Cleo is off the hook, Harris needs to live his own life but Thalia?? What on Earth were you thinking??! #bookstagramfrance #booksta #bookstafr #bookstafrance #livrestagram #avislecture #avisroman #chroniquedelivre #chroniqueslitteraires #bookreview #readmorebooks #bookworld #book #booktok #bookaddict #servicepress #servicedepresse #sp #netgalley #portefoliochroniqueurs #lesmondesperdus #aucha #isabellelemauxpiedfert #dupuis #dupuisbd #bd #bandedessinee

🇬🇧 New ARC Review (second picture) Lackadaisy vol1 - Tracy J Butler 💻ebook 🗓pub date April 16th 2024 !!!AVAILABLE !!! I try to read one comic or graphic novel every month and I was so thrilled to find this one on NetGalley as I'm obsessed by these characters since I saw the pilot on YouTube last fall. I love the author’s artstyle, how living are the characters and how fun is this story. ___ 📖 Blurb : It's 1927 and Prohibition is in full effect in St. Louis, Missouri. Organized crime has risen to meet the relentless demand for illicit alcohol. Bootleggers, gangsters, and might-makes-right rule dominate the city's underworld, fueled by the patrons of speakeasies -- speakeasies like Lackadaisy. Hidden under the unassuming Little Daisy Cafe and run by the widowed and strong-willed Mitzi May, Lackadaisy holds its own in a rough-and-ready world, where you're either holding the gun or taking the bullet. But will tenacity, class, and a little bit of crazy be enough to ensure the survival of Mitzi and her gang? ___ ❓️ What's your favourite comic or graohic novel? ___ Thank you @netgalley @lackadaisycats and @ironcircus for this copy in exchange for my honest review #booksofinstagram #bookreview #Bookstagram #netgalley #Lackadaisy #lackadaisyvolume1 #tracyjbutler #ironcircuscomics #comicbook #speakeasy

All the Hidden Monsters Book 1 of All the Hidden Monsters By Amie Jordan Narrated by: Kate Dobson Genre: Mystery & Thrillers | Sci Fi & Fantasy | Teens & YA Format: audiobook 🎧 Publication date: 9th May 2024 🌟: 4/5 “A grisly murder. A detective warlock with a dangerous past. A girl out of her depth. Can they solve the case? Sage is an ordinary girl and a werewolf, moving between worlds, desperate to make sense of her life. When her supernatural friend, Lucy, is found murdered in the human domain, Sage is determined to be part of the investigation headed up by the attractive but arrogant warlock, Oren Rinallis. Sage is neither magical nor immortal, but she knows right from wrong – and can scent a killer like no other . . .” This is a fun YA murder mystery fantasy read. I liked the characters especially P! They all work well together and have decent development. I particularly enjoyed the journey the characters took in accepting who they are and learning to be a little kinder to themselves. The narration was really good and Kate Dobson did a great job bringing Sage and Oren to life. The twists in the book I really did not see coming at all and the whole plot comes together well at the end of the book. There’s a natural world building throughout the book that is really good you get information about the supernatural world in a way that’s easy to digest but informative. I think this way of doing it is great and makes a book easier to read. A great start to a series that can add on as it goes along. @Bolindaaudio @amiescool #AlltheHiddenMonsters #NetGalley #bookstagramuk #bookstagram #bookreview #bookrecommendations #newbook #booklover #bookobsessed #booknerd #readersgonnaread #readersofinstagram #bookish #bibliophile #bookstagrammersunite #bookishfeatures #bookstagramcommunity #audiobook

Thanks #netgalley fir allowing me read this #arc it's out already so you can grabs yours today! #goodbyebirdiegreenwing Blurb in comments Goodbye Birdie Greenwing celebrates relationships in all their quirky, complicated uniqueness. It is a story about the choices we make and how we justify them. About finding out who we are, not who other people think we should be. My thoughts This was an endearing, heartwarming tale of three women reclaiming their lives. Birdie has gone through loss and never fully recovered, with her own failing health now hitting her. She rediscovers that life is worth living. Ada spends her days telling people how long they have to live, and then goes home to a shell, with a new intern at work, and a new found appreciation for running, she discovers its ok to let people in. Jane is trying to work and raise a neurodiverse child while hiding her own secrets. With a sister avoiding her and a mum who she's left to start a new life but haunts her daily tasks, she needs to learn how to be herself and how to say no. Together, these three women, their family and friends, come together in a delightful tale of life. I finished the book in 2 days, I just didn't want to put it down. I did tear up a couple of times, but it was happy tears. It's a lovely read. #books #booklovers #booknerd #bookstagram #bookstagramming #bookstagrammer #reading #readmore #kindle #kindlereads #instabooks

#bookreview #netgalley #amytintera #listenforthelie #5star I read the last 75% of this book in one sitting. It was amazing. I love how the story was all tied up. Great humor, some low spice scenes mixed in, pretty much perfect. You'll change your mind about who did it right up to the end. Five stars from me. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to read this ARC

🌟The Typo - Emily Kerr🌟 ⭐️⭐️⭐️ I loved the premise of this book - I think it was a clever way to take the romance world and try to do something a bit unique with it. The characters in this book, I found a bit hard to relate to. Amy has some redeemable qualities - she is intelligent, creative and cares deeply for her friends. At times I found her a bit annoying as she seemed to get a bit stuck in victim mode and I was desperate for her to get out of it. I found Cameron quite hard to get to know, I think because most of the book you mainly get to know him through the form of emails between him and Amy. While the emails were interesting, they are written in an oddly formal way which I found hard to relate to. I think I was expecting more romance from this book when in reality there is barely any. We only get a couple of chapters where the couple are actually together and very little happens in those. So most of the book is based around the email exchange between the two characters. It was an ok read, I enjoyed it although found the beginning a bit slow going but I was expecting more romance from it. I'm not sad I read it, but I wouldn't be in a rush to read it again. Thanks @netgalley and @onemorechapter for giving me a chance to read and review AD-PR #onemorechapter #netgalley #netgalleyreview #romantic #booklovershavemorefun #booklovershavendiscord

Following the death of her Aunt Rosie, Sara is left a piece if land of Sicily. However the locals refuse to acknowledge the ownership of this land and to understand why Sara must uncover the secrets of her Great-Great-Grandmothet Serafina's life. The characters felt really well developed and the descriptions of Sicily transported me straight there. A great book! 🌻☀️This Summer Will Be Different by Carley Fortune☀️🌻 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 *PR product* Lucy has plans to visit her best friends home town on Prince Edward Island, however, Bridget is delayed, so Lucy goes to a bar and hooks up with a guy working there. What she doesn’t expect is to learn the next morning said guy was Bridget’s brother. They agree to pretend that night never happened and never tell Bridget about it. As the years go by though and Lucy continues to visit, the chemistry between them is undeniable and they can’t keep away from each other. They live such different lives though, is it just a repeated summer fling? And is it worth risking her friendship anyway? I have really enjoyed all of the Carley Fortune books I’ve read so far and this one wasn’t an exception. The characters were all likeable, the setting beautiful and the multiple timelines left things intriguing. If you haven’t picked up her books yet I definitely recommend doing it! ⭐️ 𝐁𝐎𝐎𝐊 𝐑𝐄𝐕𝐈𝐄𝐖⭐️ 𝐒𝐲𝐧𝐨𝐩𝐬𝐢𝐬 Flora MacQueen has always dreamt of more than life on the small Scottish island of St Kilda. So, when she catches the eye of visiting adventurer and wealthy businessman James Callaghan, her future seems brighter. Winter seas separate the lovers, but the island’s evacuation the following summer promises to reunite them – until tragedy strikes. Heartbroken and needing to support her family on the mainland, a chance meeting offers hope. Soon, Flora is the toast of glamorous Paris; fame and fortune are hers for the taking. But at a high price. When a scandal erupts back home, Flora is implicated, along with her friends Effifie and Mhairi. But as dark secrets come to light, it is a lie by a fellow islander that changes everything . . . 𝐌𝐲 𝐓𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 Another wonderful read again, this time featuring Flora who falls in love with James Callaghan. Set on St Kilda we see events from Flora’s point of view in the months before the evacuation of the community. Again the hardness of life on St Kilda provided such a magnificent setting and the sense of friendship was a major pull for me in this book. It’s such a beautifully written story of community, friendship and romance with a little bit of mystery added in. Flora had to deal with quite challenging circumstances, I feel more than her friends did and they stood by her and supported her through. What a determined character who wants more in her life and seeks a path far from home. Success could be short lived as Flora is taken back to the last few days on the island and the mystery of what happened threatens her future. There are some difficult themes in this book and thought they were dealt with very well. It’s such a wonderful series and it ends with questions still unanswered so I can’t wait to get some answers in the next book !!! I’m going to re-read them all before book 4 !!!! Thanks to @panmacmillan and @netgalley for an e-arc in return for an honest review. If you read or watched The Lovely Bones but wanted a HEA (with a rescuer and at an appropriate age) this book is for you. This is dark romance somewhat adjacent to me because really dark things happened to this FMC but the point in the timeline where we pick up is majorly her healing journey and re-entry to society. I read one review that described this even getting a tad whimsical unexpectedly which I loved and agree with. Our MMC didn’t set out to be a hero and most people wouldn’t expect them to even keep up contact, he’s a loner and also older than she is, but they have more in common than they originally think. And the delicate way they regain trust and power ❤️ I read this a couple of years ago and was so excited for Carian when it got picked up by @readforeverpub (and they approved me for an eARC too!), it’s one of those books that’s second in a series but is soo solidly a standalone it is its own quiet value. Thank you to NetGalley and Simon Element for an ARC of The Night We Lost Him. Oof, I hate leaving all bad reviews but I really did not enjoy this book in any way. My first issue was the incredibly slow pace of the story...I figured at some point the pace would pick up but it stayed slow even through the ending. My second issue was the main character's relationship was pretty much just a romanticism of his adultery throughout 3 marriages. It seemed like the author wanted me to be swept away by this unconventional love story but it just left me with an "ick" feeling. 1.5 stars, generously rounded up #arcreader #bookstagram #fictionbooks #netgalley #simonelement #thenightwelosthim

Book 65/125 - It’s Not Hysteria by Karen Tang, MD, MPH - Fascinating. Informative. Accessible. A book full of facts organized in a way that the reader is both learning and feeing heard! Each section ends with a quick recap of notes highlighting the information to remember. This makes it much easier to organize each topic mentally. The author also takes the time to be inclusive to any person who would be impacted by gynecological health needs. Overall, this book will certainly be an important resource for myself from here on out! The audiobook is read by the author who has a clear voice for the topic and is easily understood at faster speeds. Thank you NetGalley, Macmillan Audio, and author Dr. Karen Tang for the ARC in exchange for my honest review. “It’s Not Hysteria” is expected to be published May 7, 2024! ❔QOTD: Do you read nonfiction?❔ #macaudio2024 #itsnothysteria #netgalley #bookstagram #bibliophile #nonfiction #reading #audiobook #health #reproductivehealth
