On September 19, 2021, Dylan and I headed to Rosario Beach and checked out the Maiden of Deception Pass, aka Ko-kwal-alwoot, who’s Coast Salish legend prompted the creation of her statue and story posts here. As you walk around the grassy knoll of Rosario Head, you can see Bowman Bay, the Salish Sea, and the San Juan Islands, making this one of my favorite places to enjoy! Deception Pass State Park is a great camping location, which I highly recommend to anyone visiting the area, though they do book up quickly in the tourist season. 🌊

“A LIFE WITHOUT LOVE • IS LIKE A YEAR WITHOUT SPRING.” ~ Octavian Paler 🍃🤍🍃 Walking through, and under the wonders of Spring is like medicine. Observing the small, intricacies together ~ with two fellow Nature lovers, was priceless. Someone had built a little fairy home, near our picnic spot. And, there was evidence of children placing small white Azalea caps upside down, upon a boulder, that was lining our path towards the Japanese Garden. There was a very fun turtle sighting, at the upper duck pond. I loved seeing the awe and wonder in the eyes of small group of children, as they passed through Narnia…in the opposite direction. Sharing what I saw with my fellow travelers was also super rewarding, “Look, it’s a double trunk Cedar Tree!” or, “I love to photograph the translucent white Dogwood petals from underneath” and noting that my fellow adventurers were actually listening to me! All in all, it was a very fun and heartwarming time, yesterday…walking through ‘The Park’ with two of my favorite humans! @rubys_ashland @lithiaartisansmarket @blacksheeppubandrestaurant Topped off the weekend with an absolutely fantastic meal at La Briccola Italian Restaurant, with the Fab Four. On September 19, 2021, Dylan and I headed to Deception Pass State Park and hiked part of the Goose Rock Trail and immersed ourselves in some “forest bathing,” appreciating the water views of Deception Pass along the path. Then we headed down to North Beach to soak in the iconic view of the famous bridge and comb the beach despite the cloudy weather. Dylan was all bundled up because he was cold, while I was fine in just my leggings and long sleeve shirt. Our next stop was West Beach with its scattered driftwood along the shore and 180* views of Rosario Strait, as well as nearby Deception Island. The cloud cover started to open up a little, allowing some blue skies to peak through. 🌤️

Today is Marine Mammal Rescue Day AND World Veterinary Day—a perfect pairing! 💙 Have you met rescued northern fur seal Chiidax? Back in 2013, Chiidax was found as a newborn pup in a box on the doorstep of the Department of Fish and Game office in a remote area of Alaska. His name means “small young animal” in Aleut. He was hand-raised, and after federal wildlife officials determined he couldn’t be released back into the wild, he was sent to live at the New England Aquarium before joining us in March 2022. 🦭 When you stop by his habitat on your next visit, you can also see our Veterinary Care Center right next door! This is where animals that live here at the Aquarium receive medical care from our team of experienced veterinary professionals—including a board-certified specialist in zoological medicine—as well as our dedicated animal care staff and outside specialists. Together, they work to provide the best care possible for all animals, from sea stars to seals! 👩‍⚕️
