🎊🎶 International Body Music Festival 🗓 4-10 November 2024 📍 Athens, Greece 🔗 ibmf.playgroundforthearts.com 💥 Meet our artists! 🙌 Perrine Camus is a French dancer, choreographer, and body percussionist. 👉 After performing in a percussion band and exploring various dance styles, she immersed herself in body music, training with Jep Meléndez, Nestor Busquets, Max Pollak, Olivia Rosenkrantz, Keith Terry, Barbatuques, and ToK among others. During her time in London, she was profoundly influenced by the work of leading contemporary choreographers such as Hofesh Shechter's sensorial and musical approach, Akram Khan's fusion of Indian dance and martial arts, Jose Agudo's “flamenco roots”. As her encounters went on, she approached vocal expression, exploring both repertoire and improvisation. The vocal ensemble became, much like the choreographic ensemble, one of her favorite playgrounds for body music exploration. Through research and creation from their creator Fernando Barba, in collaboration with the musician Stênio Mendes, Barbatuques developed different techniques of body percussion, vocal percussion, tap dance and musical improvisation in their collective experiences, which also incorporated each member’s experience. In its extensive trajectory, it went far beyond the stages of more than 30 countries, reaching the soundtracks of cinema and advertising, in games, on the dance floor in thousands of remixes created by DJs. Classics already recognized by the public, such as “Baião Destemperado” and “Baianá“, are successful on all streaming platforms in the world, with massive use in videos on channels such as Instagram and TikTok. Barbatuques' sound has a modern overlap of styles and aesthetics, they are songs and “instrumental” music in traditional or contemporary rhythms, such as baião, coco, samba, maracatu, rap, electronic, afoxé, funk, carimbó, indigenous toré, rock, beatbox, kecak and African music. They explore the phonetics, rhythmic, harmonic and melodic aspects of classical music, from Brazilian popular tradition to pop. [EN] 💥 Meet our artists! 🙌 Keith Terry - Creator & Artistic Director of International Body Music Festival 👉 Inspired by that generation of great US jazz tap dancers he was accompanying in the 1970’s, drummer Keith Terry stood up from behind his drums and dove head-on into Body Music (a term he coined) in 1978. He regularly travels the world, performing and teaching in a wide range of settings from villages in Bali to New York City's Lincoln Center. Keith is a Guggenheim Fellow, an Asian Cultural Council Fellow, and the recipient of Percuaction Global Percussion Network's Lifetime Achievement Award. He is the founding artistic director of both the Oakland, California-based arts organization, Crosspulse, since 1979; and the International Body Music Festival (IBMF) - launched by Crosspulse in 2008 to explore the language of Body Music from culture to culture. The IBMF’s full festivals and MiniFests have been produced in the US, Brazil, Turkey, Indonesia, France, Canada, Italy, Greece and Ghana.
