🎨😊When I first painted these barriers for @start_streetartoronto , they were just another canvas along Scarlett Road. Fresh from the bustling energy of downtown Toronto, I didn't even realize where they'd end up. Fast forward two years and life's funny twist led me to move to Scarlett Road, where these barriers, my earliest pieces, now greet me daily. It's a surreal feeling walking my dog past them each day, waving 'hi' to these splashes of my past. Although two have since moved to Danforth, seeing the ones that stayed reminds me of my journey. My style, technique, and overall approach have evolved immensely from those first strokes to now. Augusta CD inside cover, 2004, photo by Graham Powell. Augusta is a collection of songs performed solo live at the Glenn Gould Studio and recorded by Ron Skinner for broadcast on CBC Radio. Graham took this shot in the backyard of the house I rented for 13 years on Augusta Avenue in Toronto’s ever so colourful Kensington Market. My landlord was totally cool with me adding art vibes to the joint so I threw up this mural on a rather dreary cinder block wall. The design on my acoustic was done with metallic gold vinyl film and my hero Burt Bacharach signed it! Artist: @whatisadam #wia #whatisadam We can all relate to that first kiss... 😘 Montreal based artist, Whatisadam, or WIA, is one of the city’s best known urban artists. Whatisadam has collaborated with many brands including The Canadiens, Roots Canada, En Masse, Osheaga, and many more. In addition to his wheat-paste and stencil artworks, Whatisadam has a diverse studio practice including working with silkscreen printing, large-scale murals, installation work, as well as a proclivity towards using found objects as his canvas. Just when my training felt back on track—after a broken foot, issues with anaemia, burnout, and what my dr thinks has been some form of long covid—just when I was starting to feel myself again, I’ve fractured a rib and done…I dunno something to my tailbone. And I’m really frustrated. Today I decided that the routine is better kept, even if it’s routine lite, so I set out for a walk and rediscovered this staircase. It’s wooden for low impact, secluded for low embarrassment, and might be the thing that keeps me sane. Painted a bunky at Coronation Park by the harbourfront. This character is a water deity of sorts inspired by Nuwa, a creator deity in Chinese mythology, and Mazu, a sea goddess. The theme given was the land, and here the character is building land which morphs into the Toronto skyline, her dragon-like body wrapped around the bunker. Yachts are in the water as this park is right by a marina.
