This year is going to be the first year without Ron. If you have been fortunate enough to attend one of the past 20 events, you were most likely blessed to have met Kelly’s dad, Ron. He is the crux of our mission as Cast Iron Farmers. It all traces back to Ron, the lost legacy of family farmers, neighborhood barn raisings + shared chores when a family farm faced a hardship. It’s a refrigerator full of casseroles, table- and knee-smacking laughter and fading memories. Ron, Kelly, farm culture, community, finding common ground with the most unusual companions + new friends… it’s what Ron impressed upon his kids with far-reaching ripples. On March 3rd, he passed away peacefully on this farm, the place that nourished him, challenged him, helped him raised a family, expanded him in unexpected ways for 88 years. The passing of time has paved the way for this event as a small concession for the disappearance of cattle, hogs + cows from the heart of the Ludeking land, never once diminishing their true heart of love for another. Won’t you join us this year, not only to celebrate each other as artists + status quo challengers, but to celebrate the Ludeking heart + community that has gathered around this event since 2004 (interestingly enough, that was the year Kelly mom’s, Georgia passed).
