"Meien" 1) definitie: "met groen versieren" ❤ Het is bijna 1 mei, en de tijd rondom deze dag is doorspekt met oeroude tradities en rituelen die het huwelijk van Hemel en Aarde vieren, van de winter die verdreven is en van komende goede heil en een tijd van losbandige feesten. 😉 ❤️ Inmiddels is de natuur qua bestuiving en bedrijvigheid van dieren in volle gang, het loof is eindelijk goed groen aan het worden en het lijkt net alsof Aarde (én Hemel, met eeuwig blauw en prachtige zon en warmte) hun kracht ten volle tentoonstellen! ❤️ In oude tijd werden er meivuren ontstoken door middel van het wrijven van hout tegen elkaar (nodfyr genoemd), meestal op een heuvel, duin of berg - die de samenkomst van hemel en aarde goed illustreert. Soms verbrande men poppen in het vuur wat de overwonnen winter symboliseerde. Na afloop maakte men het gezicht zwart met de kool van de heilige meivuren; een symbool van de voorspoed en vruchtbaarheid van de Aarde en de voorouders. ❤️ Het plaatsen van groene takken en bloeiende takken op huizen en in tuinen werd als bijzonder voorspoedig gezien, de bekende meitakken. Dit hele plaatsen van kleinere meien (de takken dus) ging gepaard met ommegangen, met 'pinkstermannen' en meikoningingen die rondreden in karren versierd door groen, gekleed in het wit en aangekondigd door het geschal van de 'meihoaren' (een koehoorn). De meikoning en koningin, als verbeelding van het Heilig Huwelijk van de natuur, werden gekroond (soms door de schutterijen) en de meikoninging plengde een bieroffer aan de opgerichte meiboom in het dorp. ❤️ Het is heel mooi onze oude tradities in ere te houden die zich gevormd hebben in oude tijden en de natuur eren - het plaatsen van groene takken bij je eigen deur, versiert met linten van rood, wit en ook blauw is heel leuk om te doen, ook samen met de kinderen! ❤️ De meimaand geldt als een liefdesmaand, perfect voor huwelijk of andere samenkomsten, en het houdt vrede, vreugde en feest in. Alles is ontloken en overvloed kan worden gevraagd aan de geesten van de natuur. Je kunt een vuur maken en hen eren en vragen om heilswensen voor jou en jouw familie. Heb een blije meie!! Valborg/Walpurgis night april 30: Witches dancing on Brocken peak in the Harz mountains, in Germany; lighting bonfires and waiting for dawn, when the forces of darkness are pushed aside by the forces of light; and dancing around a maypole with colourful ribbons. Sorry, I'm not into it in a religious sense. And I never have. Walpurgia, in its original form means actually nothing to me as a Scandinavian Animist, and an Asatruar. To me this is not really an Ásatrú ritual at all. Christian, Wiccan, Celtic and folklore in Germany, sure. But not Ásatrú/Forn Sed. However, a lot of Ásatrúar's actually celebrate it with their families here in Sweden anyway, and it's a nice, non religious event each year. According to Wikipedia for instance, Norway is not a country that has a history with this event. And that matches what my research has told me over the years. They do list the Czech Republic, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Finland, Germany, and Sweden as having a history of celebrating Walpurgia. In Norway, and many of the northern countries, May 1st is more like the first day of Spring than Valborg as it is called here in Sweden, and that is how I see it, and how I honor this " May Day" celebration. The origins of the holiday date back to pagan celebrations of fertility rites and the coming of spring. Meaning the Seger-blót in may. After the Scandinavias were "Christianized", the pagan celebration became combined with the legend of St. Walburga, an English-born nun who lived at Heidenheim monastery in Germany and later became the abbess there. Walburga was believed to have cured the illnesses of many local residents. Walburga is traditionally associated with May 1 because of a medieval account of her being canonized upon the translation of her remains from their place of burial to a church ca 870. Although it is likely that the date of her canonization is just "coincidental" to the date of the Ásatrú celebrations of spring, people were able to celebrate both events under church law without fear of reprisal. Através de poemas épicos e melodias poderosas, influenciavam o destino com palavras e música, tecendo louvores a patronos e narrando feitos grandiosos. A música, na cultura nórdica, era uma força poderosa, capaz de acalmar, curar, comunicar com o sobrenatural e até mesmo influenciar o destino. Instrumentos e melodias eram ferramentas essenciais para se conectar com o mundo e buscar o poder de moldar a realidade. I did contemplate whether I wanted this book as the author, who is an archaeologist base her research on pagan culture, and admittedly, I have not yet read the book but only flicked through it. "Modern Norse paganism is known by many names: Ásatrú, Trot, Oðinnism/Wotanism, Fornsidr (Forn Sidr)… All these words indicate the current stage of the life of the Tradition, but each still has its own nuances and shades. What they have in common though is that they are mainly focused on a rich mythological and archaeological Norse heritage, sometimes “specializing” in various temporal and geographical borders (continental Germans or Scandinavians) in order to revive, with different variations, a common Germanic tradition, supplementing their already modern interpretations, often debatable. Gap: At the Left Hand of Odin is a diary compilation of several years of research, practice and immersion in a particular direction within Oðinnism (Norse Tradition), which the author calls the Path through the Dark Side of the Ash (Yggdrasil): Svarte Aske. This Path is different from the standard, main-stream Right-Hand approach to Paganism because it does not recognize the positive evaluation of modern times and the modern reality surrounding us: its negative impact on the state of Norse traditions and its worldview is excessively large.
