Continuing with work on the Jeannin Stahltaube fuselage... I have some better drawings now and discovered that the front of the cowling was too low. It was necessary to cut the forward nose off and move it up to achieve the right shape (you can see the white line where I made the cut). It was a lot of work, but it was worth doing. I also discovered that the deck between cockpits was faceted with 6 segments, so I remade that too. Revell 1/32 Spitfire Mk.IIa: Complete 🍻 I’ll be tossing up some photos of the this build over the next little bit. Painted/post shaded and weathered wiith @gaahleri_airbrush 0.3 mobius. @tamiya_inc_jp panel liner dark brown and black for the panel lines and rivets. @vallejocolors chipping fluid along with @prismacolor silver, light green and light brown pencil for chipping. Overall thoughts on the build: A decent kit at a very cheap price of around $40USD. Decent detail and good fit. Parts have a bit of cleanup required but nothing major(mainly just a bit of flash and moulding lines). Detail is acceptable with lots of rivet detail. On the accuracy side of things there are numerous issues with this one which I did correct. Namely the spinner shape(AIMS Resin spinner )the metal ailerons, the radiator and oil cooler(resembles a mk.vb)with the help of @barracudastudios upgrade and correction set. the Coffman starter bilster(way too small), and a few other bilsters on the cowling and wing walkway lines had to be removed or corrected shape wise with epoxy putty. Lastly there were fuel level sight glasses on each side of the aft front cowling which were filled. @hgwmodels seatbelts were added for detail as well as a Yahu instrument panel.I have @eduardmodels wheels on order as well as quick boost exhaust pipes but for right now I just wanted to get some completed pictures posted!Anyone after a large scale early and accurate spitfire should look towards the new Kotare kit unless accuracy isn’t important than this kit is an absolutely solid choice. #spitfire_desire_buddy_build
As much as I like the Testors MM acrylics, I always find it very difficult to achieve a nice tight and consistent spray pattern with them, and instead end up with a lot of overspray. Early days on the Jeannin Stahltaube scratchbuild in 1/144. The actual taubes had no continuous wing spars and the wings were just bolted to the sides of the fuselage (which probably explains why they had a reputation for falling off). Finally, the P-61 is on it's wheels. Well, kinda. I made the decision to have the radar exposed, which leaves the problem of how to keep the noise gear firmly on Terra Firma. Revell 1/32 Spitfire Mk.IIa: Final weathering and exhaust stains have been completed! Reveal pics incoming ! Exhaust stains were airbrushed with highly thinned @tamiya_inc_jp XF-55 as a base, then xf-69 was feathered in over top. I thin the paint to a ratio of roughly 5:1, it sprays almost like water so it’s important to crank down the pressure to about 7-8PSI and build it up very slowly. The Mk.IXc is still at the decalling stage and will be completed when I’m back from vacation. #spitfire_desire_buddy_build

It's been a while since I've had a full and ongoing build to post, but I think at last I am ready to return to the fray :) Earlier this year I embarked on a new scratchbuilding project with the aim of making a Jeannin Stahltaube in 1/144 scale. The build is intended as a bit of a challenge to see how far I can push things in 144, as adding all the bells and whistles to such a complex aircraft is just about the most difficult subject that I can think of in this scale. To keep it humming along I'll be making the Taube as part of a buddy build, alongside Max Bentley of @MrB.models We first got to know each other a couple of years ago when we each received an opportunity to write a book on modelling WW1 aircraft. Both of our books should be out this year. Mine will be First World War Aircraft in Scale - Scratchbuilding in 1/144 Scale, and Max's book is titled: First World War Aircraft in Scale - The Pfalz D.III and Pfalz D.IIIa, where he will be concentrating on that beautiful and waspish little German scout. Well, I did a thing! About a week and a half ago, I was thinking to myself "wouldn't it be lovely to try my hand at another of the Revell 1/144 typhoon kits?" Of course, I did the Platz recently which I found a fantastic kit but I wanted to redo the Revell since I really don't think my first attempt was very good. Well apparently luck would have it as on the 22nd of April, the @typhoondisplayteam announced that they had a shiny new paint scheme on Typhoon ZJ913 which would run the airshow circuit in celebration of Hawker Typhoons of 257 squadron, who participated heavily in the D-Day landings (of which it is the 80th anniversary this year). With that information, less than an hour after the announcement was made I was already drawing up plans and building one of the Revell typhoons from the stash! Having completed it yesterday, I think I've managed to become the first scale modeller to build this new scheme which I'm particularly happy about! It's nor my best build but I think it's far from my worst, and I am happy with how it's turned out. The kit is, as stated multiple times, Revell. The decals are from about 3 different Mark 1 Decals sets, the Revell kit itself as well as one Platz EE Lightning which I 'borrowed' the wing roundels from (I'll get new ones it's fine). As per usual I up-detailed the cockpit to bring it up to scratch a little better. Really looking forward to seeing this bird on the display circuit, possibly at the @airtattoo if not before! Revell 1/32 Spitfire Mk.IIa: Received another correction piece today. AIMS’ resin Rotol Spinner and blades. Revell’s kit part on the right with a spinner that looks nothing like either of the props used on an early Spitfire (Dehavilland and Rotol). Most Mk.IIs had Rotols fitted to them so thankfully this spinner and blade set from AIMS will provide an authentic look to the model when finished. Detail work so far on the 1/32 Revell Spitfire Mkiia. Adding more of the Barracuda resin. Canopy jettison and pull handle, cockpit door with separate crowbar (I’m not even sure mkii’s made use of the crowbar but I think it looks cool), and gunsight has been fitted with the use of some leftover PE and a transparent packaging plastic. I’ve also decided since I’m this far, to add quick boost exhaust and some resin wheels. A proper rotol spinner is also on order as the kit spinner resembles neither a dehavilland or rotol spinner … not sure what they were thinking on this one 😂 #spitfire_desire_buddy_build

A proper update on the Z-10! I added some details , extra riveting and panel lines as well as hinges for the engine covers. They seem to protrude a lot on the real thing? I Went into paint and managed to get the colours wrong a few times. I repainted the dark green and the light green twice and finally ended up satisfied? A light weathering to follow for more depth. I realised that the camo version is the Z-10K which has a few external differences which is easy to change. The biggest challenge is the cannon! This will be scratchbuilt soon or I might build up a Frankenstein gun from someApache aftermarket gun bits. I will keep you posted. The final reveal of the BF-109F will follow soon. Next model up for its checkover before flying is my Boomerang Nano! An old model, a good few years old now, but still running well, powered by a gas start Wren 44 Gold turbine 👌🏻 Noticed one of the 4 bolts that hold the stab onto the booms had stripped, was loose and not holding it down. It was in an awkward place which couldn’t be reached from any angle without it being messy. WIP on the dual Revell 1/32 Spitfires: Mk.IXc has received its camo and minor chipping. Colours used on this one were @tamiya_inc_jp XF82 and 83 with @mrhobbyglobalws C361 getting the call for the green. Sprayed with the trusty @gaahleri_airbrush mobius 0.3mm. Once again, the camo has been post shaded with highly thinned tamiya smoke , and the aluminum chipping layer activated with water and a toothpick 👍 #spitfire_desire_buddy_build

WIP Update, Revell 1/32 Spitfire Mk.IIa: Camouflage touch ups have been done along with some more post shading using tamiya smoke highly thinned , sprayed at 8psi with the @gaahleri_airbrush mobius 0.3mm. Decals have been applied as well. Very impressed with them.. they snug right down with the help of @mrhobbyglobalws Mark setter and softer solution. Next up, a utility gloss coat to seal in the decals in prep for a pin wash! #spitfire_desire_buddy_build
