Two blue ribbons for mom and Rico! It was so cold and rained the entire day at the show. Two of my mom’s riders came to help so they took care of most of my grooming duties. I found a little blue belly lizard in the horse trailer while we were there, I snuck him into the tack room of the trailer before we left 🤣. After the show we went home, got some dinner and then headed back to the barn to foal watch for the night. There are two mares who will have their babies any day now. No foals last night but I got to spend lots of time playing with the foals that have already been born. I also fell asleep during the night, I tried to stay awake but the car bed was too cozy 😴 I get to spend a little time playing with Bit’s today and I’m so excited. Snaps from the weekend! Evelynn, as you can see from the third photo was so incredibly excited to finally get to go a monster truck rally! She had been talking about it for 3 weeks ever since we told her they were coming to town. Thankfully, we got her some headphones, because it was very loud! We had a nice family day on Sunday as well, and after church got some groceries, went to the park and made a nice supper together. Spring is in the air here and even though we are still getting some cool days, all of the flowers and trees are starting to bloom and it’s so beautiful! This weekend, Matt and I also got to go on our first solo date night since we moved here in July! Eight months is a really really long time, but between having a hard time finding an available babysitter, everything that’s been going on with Dolce, and our busy work schedules, it has just not happened! We got to go have a really nice dinner together, and it was just so special! Dolce has been doing really well praise the Lord and we are going on very short little hand walks every time I go out to the barn. We only usually make about one lap around the arena and that has been perfect for him! He is such a good boy, and has been making so much progress lately! It still seems so surreal that he is FINALLY improving! Lastly, if you missed my stories, Evelynn got to transition into her big girl bed and she could NOT have been more excited hahaha! She will be 2 1/2 on the 14th and I was curious how she would react to transitioning. She took to it so well and goes right to sleep and sleeps through the night without getting up! So proud of our little girl!

❄️SNOW DAY❄️ Today my brother and I got to go to work with our parents because school was canceled thanks to two days of SNOW! We live up in the mountains about an hour from our barn. I got to work for my mom today, grooming horses, cleaning tack, organizing the tack room (and my own tack trunk that always seems to get messy as soon as I clean it!) and I even got to ride my mom’s horse Rico! Bits and I had a really good flat ride and then a bareback ride and even some cross the fun while my mom was out teaching 🤣 She is the best pony in the world and I am so happy I got to spend the day with her and at the barn! My self portrait for my final assignment in @meg_nlo course The Artist’s Eye. The theme for the assignment was “Identity” and I have a series in mind with this beautiful vintage mirror showing my reflection of different parts of my identity. I wanted to start out with my horse Zappa, as he and horses have been a part of my identity since I was very very young. And many of the paths my life has taken, the people I’ve met, even this career as a photographer, I owe to horses. Taking this shot was challenging as the weather turned to pouring rain (with a rainbow in the sky as well at one point!) and became super windy, so the mirror kept blowing up out of position and I was worried my camera and tripod might get blown right over! (see my BTS image in my stories!) I also began with Zappa in a halter as I wasn’t sure if he’d be a bit “up” with the wind and the unfamiliar mirror in the round pen, but he stood so calmly in place I was able to take his halter completely off and run back and forth to my camera without him leaving. Such a champ! Stay tuned as over this year I hope to add more to this “Identity” series. As many of you may know, I have ridden both English and western over the years since I learned to ride as a kid, but I spent a lot of time during high school, college, and for several years post college riding primarily western before I got Dolce!
