My Mother's Day request was wrapping up the new plot prep in a day and that's exactly what I got 😉 This plot was tilled last summer, seeded with cover crop, tilled again this week and today we wrapped the perimeter and sowed it with buckwheat, peas, and oats...just in time for the rain clouds to roll in. Later this summer that cover crop will get knocked down and tarped. What will we be growing here? This fall, it will be planted with garlic. It’s finally Spring here on the Pacific Coast! And so we are busy getting the inventory ready for this season’s delicious, nutritious jams, jellies and preserves. This spring we have a new member of the jelly family: debuting next Sunday will be some wild-foraged spruce tip jelly thanks to Benoit @foragedlandfarm. These bright green spikes became this lovely misty jelly that has a piney, citrusy flavour with some subtle resin notes. Perfect of course for cheese and crackers, but makes a lovely glaze for baked salmon, on pork, smoked tofu or your fave vegan burger. Also available next market will be pickled fiddleheads, thanks to Matt (@yourwildestfoods) foraging these lovely ostrich fern curlicues. Look at those happy green faces!!
